COURUI DO1 'Big Head' (Black/GRAY NOW AVAILABLE) $29.99 @ Gearbest ( use coupon: gbcourui) A long-throw modder's light!

High CSGB, PM replied, I await your response… Hopefully you can take care of me, I have made an offer, if you can work with the offer I made it will save you some money over a refund and will make me a happy customer which should make everyone here feel a little better while they wait on theirs.

Full disclosure to everyone reading, I asked for a $27 credit, again I purchased this light to mod and sell, its simply in to bad of condition to be able to sell (I could deal with the messed up UI, thats actually of almost no concern to me but I fant fix this reflector, its to bad) however I could still use this light to take measurements and in my designing and testing of my new driver. My offer was to be aloud to keep this for a partial credit [not any money back, all in-store credit] (which in the end would save them over the $5 difference in price over having to pay to return this one and either refund me in full or replace it).

Hi Cereal_killer, I have PMed back too, please check it.

Mine was at my house Saturday, but it got taken back to the USPS office because I wasn’t home to sign for it (registered mail). I took my little “you’ve got mail” card to the USPS office and got my light last evening. The lens is dirty, but otherwise the light is in good condition. It was wrapped in a little bit of bubble wrap, inside a cardboard box, which, in turn, was inside a bubble mailer.

I like the black anodizing. I’m not into gray, unless it is a med/dark gray, so I’m not interested in the gray version of this light. Mine only has two “normal” modes: HI-LO-OFF, but it does have a hidden strobe, activated by a long press at any time, from any mode, including OFF. A short press returns it to whatever mode it was already in before strobe was activated, including OFF. It has a SMO reflector and makes a nice beam, once you get far enough away to close the donut hole, which is about 30 inches. I’d rather it start on low, and have a way to turn it off without going through every mode (even though there are only two), but overall I’m pleased.

I guess, considering the Customs issue and the National Holiday both happening in China soon after my purchase, the shipping time wasn’t all that bad. Tracking, although it could have been more useful, did finally work. This light is easily the brightest flashlight I’ve ever owned. But that’s not saying much, because I’ve just got started in this hobby. It wasn’t that long ago that I thought 100lm was bright. :stuck_out_tongue:

David, glad to hear your’s is in better condition, can I ask if you’re positive that’s how the strobe works? From off I can activate strobe directly but a single click turns it back to high upon exiting strobe, not straight back off like you describe.

Again I have zero interest in the factory driver / UI, it’s not a big concern for me (not like my other issues) but just wondering about the inconsistencies, there have been numerous reports of how the UI works on these things.

Ahh Phooey! I thought I remembered that it went back to OFF. But, upon trying it just now, it does things a little differently. When you first press the button, whether you’re doing a short press or holding it for long press, it goes to whatever mode is next in the order HI-LO-OFF. Then, if you are doing a long press for strobe, then a short press goes back to that mode, not whatever position it was in before the press. So, from OFF, a long press would have the result OFF~~HI>Strobe. Then a short press from strobe would go back to HI. It is the same from whatever mode you are in. So also HILO>Strobe (short press to LO) and LOOFF~~>Strobe (short press to OFF). Weird UI, but at least it’s consistent!

Meh. If I was GB I definitely wouldn’t do the credit you asked for.

Why, If I buy a light marketed at $27 I’m sure they’re paying a considerable amount less than that so that’s saving them money right there. Not to mention on their reply to my initial message they offered a replacement or full refund (my choice) so I figured since they were being upfront in fixing this right off the bat I would offer to take a lesser refund and not have them have to pay to get this back to scrap it (my DX light arrived today so I have a good one to build), it would be nice to have this one for fitting parts and figuring out the tail mod and shit, no way it can be sold tho and its so bad I really can’t even use it for a personal / beater light.

This light is literally unusable, the driver issue wouldn’t be a concern really but the reflector is trash (and if I wernt me and was wanted to use the light as it came the extra click really hinders that). The worst (deepest) spiderweb surface damage is about 8-10 sq mm; a 2x3mm square area and another spot about an inch over that looks similar but is slightly smaller, these look like some sort of mechanical arm (for a P&P machine or something) crashed into it, the overall damage to the reflector coating however is much much larger, several square inches.

Edit: The majority of the time they don’t even end up wanting the broken light back, so I kind’a offered them something for nothing in that regard. I’m not the average customer either (and they’re aware of this, at least a few CS ladies at GB are lol), I only sell a handful of lights here a month but I am literally shipping a minimum of a light a day, the majority of my business happens off these forums, as such I’m buying lights nearly daily to mod (we all know how far out you have to order from some of these places so I have to keep ahead of demand on my ordering hosts). Let’s just say I’ve had more than my fair share of dealings with CS departments from different china shop’s, my offer is definitely more than fair.

cereal WE NEED PICTURES. upload them on onedrive, dropbox…. etc.

I guess we all have our own way of looking at things; I disagree with you. I’m aware that it’s normal for many Chinese sellers to refund without a return in situations like this. I just don’t think much of the implication that while the light is not worth $0 to you… it is in fact worth exactly $2.99.

I ordered my Courui before the Yezl and tubes, but got the Yezl and tubes, but no Courui. If I get it, I may order the Gray one.

A little elbow grease and some wet-dry sandpaper, a liberal application of Mother’s Billet Polish, and you’re in business.

FandyFire Rook

Dale, I remember that light well, I’m still keeping that in mind for future damaged reflectors I receive however the damage on this reflector is deep into the metal, not just on the surface, I would have to remove a few thoul. of material, not just sand off the coating and polish.

I’ll get pic’s hosted soon.

BTW GB was more than happy with my offer, they took me up on it right away and even offered upgraded shipping (over NL post) to get it to me faster (I assume so I can post about how happy I am)

Gray version:

seems that a lot of pleople (also me) are waiting for the grey…… looks really better than black.

95% of the flashlights are black.
That is pretty boring.
I have 3 lights that are not black: The Roche F8 and one SRK Clone and one “NEW-612” in Grey. That’s it.

I would love to have different Colors. Maybe even a white one? Or dark Red, dark green, etc.

Just ordered one… Thought the expedited shipping was $1.99, was 12 dollars … DOH! … oh well … scroode the pooch on that one … that’ll learn me to pay attention to what I’m doing. ahh … Well, it may get here a little quicker now anyway, we’ll see …
PS- the “gbcourui” code still is not working for the gray btw … so I got black … I think they look pretty cool in black …

I just ordered another one. I showed mine to a friend and he wanted one, so I ordered one for him in black. Let’s see how the shipping goes this time!

While the black orders keep increasing, my little cuckoo again told me that the Gray versions will just might be delivered tomorrow.

Well, that remains to be seen. In the meantime, the waiting continues.

I just realized this:

Mine didn’t come with AR coating, and I’m almost certain there’s nothing at all special about the glass. :frowning:

That's typical Chinglish for "standard glass lens" :) .

About the gray, is it their plan to release the gray after the coupon has expired?
