Two engineers and 4 prototypes later I still do not have a working board. I am not sure what I am going to do at this point.

Bugger , Im happy to wait I would like 2 of those triples but with nw emitters.

I looked at the top brands eg baja designs/rigid , and your lights are easily comparable but ur better on price.
Being a small business owner myself I would prefer to buy from the little guys.

Back to the drawing board. The second engineer decided to give up. I’m not even sure at this point if it is even doable. Small single layer board and high frequency= to much noise. |(

Any engineers here think they can help?

Why design your own board when there are ones available that might work?
Not sure how difficult it would be to get it to go from 3.3v to 3.8v to get the proper VF for 6P xmls though

It has to be custom to fit my housing and do what I want. Nothing off the shelf will work.

Id like to see you get through this and resume your builds. Try http://www.aeroleds.com/ in Boise. Their company size just might be small enough to piece out some engineering work. Their LED landing & signal lights are a big hit amongst several aircraft owners I know personally, and Ive spoken with them a few times over the phone… nice folks. Good luck.

Fair to say, not just on an FR4 board, but on a mcpcb with led’s to boot :O. Just in case anyone thinks they have ideas.

There is a way to basically turn a mcpcb into a “2 layer board” buy using “Sinkpads” to solder directly to the mcpcb creating a ground plane. Just need someone to experiment with it. The production boards will be Sinkpad II.

Bigtoy, contact tterev3 Kids a damn genius! Easy to work with. Also I think Hoop could help with the MCPBs based on what he is doing for quad XP packages. That machined quad idea of his I think could be adopted very well to your project. Also you could toss this Idea into the Oshpark thread, there are a lot of very capable scary smart folks in that thread. With all of you working together I’m sure something amazing could be produced.

On a similar note, I just purchased a 2015 Tundra. The fog lights are wimpy. That cylindrical host you made, I think with an aspheric lens and an MTG2 would be an amazing flood light and more simple to design. If shortened and made to fit in the fog light housing of the Tundra it would be awesome and without rival.

How much would you charge to build blank housings without the horizontal cooling fins. Something like 6-7inch long and no individual led slots, just the front bezel to put lexan lense?

I have officially gave up on the small triple. Couldn’t find a engineer to make it work. I have a new little project i’m working on now that uses 2 XHP50’s using 45mm LLC49 optics. Trying to make a small bright offroad motorcyle light. 40 watts and 4750 lumens should do the trick. My other bar is a bit too big for bikes.

Any electronics guys want to help redesign my current driver to work for the XHP’s? I was thinking standalone on a fr4 board and no micro for now. Just a simple 3A buck. I have all the schematics. The driver works well in my big light just not on the small MCPCB board.

Hi Bigtoy, any updates for a new driver?

I have not made much progress on the drivers yet. I wanted to test the housing/XPH 50’s on the Russian drivers first. . It’s going to be a while before I can machine a housing. Too much work right now!
I still need to rewind the stator on my Beta to power the light.

Here is what it will look like.

Gaggione LLC49R 45mm spot and matching elliptical. J4 bin XPH50’s running at 2.8A on Tpads.

Finally found someone to do a new PCB. I kept all the same schematics as my 6xml bar but had the drivers put on their own board with the PIC. This will allow me to use off the shelf 20mm stars along with the 45mm optics. I will also be able to stack multiple boards in one housing for more custom stuff. I can run a single XHP50.2 or 3 XML2’s/ off one driver(two on the board).
