Hi all,
HD in Derby has about 10 of these left. Comes with 5 alkaline C cells. Certainly a good value for $13. Very bright, good “club” function. Nice diameter for a woman’s smaller hands (sez my wife)
Necro-bump, I know, but these have gone mega discount ($5.66) in one of my local HD stores — Campbell, CA. Keep your eyes open!

Yeah, that is like the prices they were getting in Canada. I haven't seen any of these in any of the stores I visit in like about a year though. 
Picked this light (Tactical 5C 625 Lumen model 736 892) up today for $9.99 at Home Depot and they had plenty of supply.
Seems like a pretty good deal at this price point and considering what 6C maglites sell for on Ebay a steal.
Also a pretty useful as a tool for protection in the more challenging parts of town.
Someone gave me one and I’m using 5 AA nimh cells in it. AA and C are the same length. I just split a piece of garden hose lengthwise and put all 5 rechargeables in it. Is there anything wrong with this practice? Seems just as bright as when had C cells in it.
You’ll probably gain a few lumens using nimh cells for their higher current delivery. As long as the tint doesnt begin to change to a blueish hue, you’re probably safe.
Safe as in the light burns out? Safe as in fire breaks out?
If you have a DMM, you can easily test the amp draw at the tail to see how many amps your light pulls with those cells. With the stock light, you should likely be safe up to 3 amps. XM-L emitters tend to turn a blueish color if they overheat/sustain too high an amperage. Even while using eneloops, I doubt your cells would be capable of damaging the emitter or the driver.
Yeah, I’m seeing them in all the stores again. This store had a full display marked at the original price of $24.98, but they scan at $9.88. I gave one of these to my nephew 2 years ago for Christmas and he mentions it everytime I see him. Still using the original set of batteries.

What a great light (and an even better mod host). I have over 50 of them, and anther local flashaholic has about half that many. Its too bad the new Defiant lights are so pathetic compared to their lights of yesteryear.
very true, the original Defiant lights like the 3C, 3D, 5C, DST, the 2-AA tactical, etc were much better than the few i seen recently at HD. Wish we knew who built these lights for Home Depot.

Just today I was in a HD and I overheard an employee telling a customer in lighting that Brinkman-Malibu has gone bancrupt, the reason why all Malibu lighting is on clearance
if it was Brinkman, they hit a good one with the DST design. They could have pushed that design to be even more successful with more powerful drivers, and emitters like the XP-L HI. even though my new Fenix TK75vn 2015 Edition is an awesome thrower, the modded DST i have with a over-driven XP-L HI can match it for throw distance with a single emitter on a single 18650 Samsung 25R.
