If there is a VP4 it will probably replace the Opus in every day use just because its silent.

Even my SP2, VP1 and various Nitecore chargers gets used before the noisy "dreamcharger".

The Opus is nice due to certain features. But for normal "everyday charging", not so nice due to fan noise.

Looking forward to get a VP2 too. :)

Thanks for the pics & very detail reviews. I like this charger with a switch to change different voltage.

Thanks for the link!
Already emailed them, contrary to the website they don’t carry them and won’t be for a long time if at all…

HKJ, I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but I’ve come to greatly appreciate what you do over my past year on BLF: reviews, discussions, and otherwise. Thank you for yet another excellent post!

Thanks for the review. Currently considering my first LION charger….Is this the best lion charger from xtar as at date?

Yes, but it is also fairly expensive and and requires a little knowledge from the user (You must select the correct voltage and current).

The VC2 is also a fairly interesting charge because it has capacity display, but except for that it is fairly limited in functions (Review in about 2 weeks).

Thanks HKJ. I’m seeing it for about $33 on gearbest atm and I have some points to use….I will wait for your other review

HKJ at the price point the VP2 is selling, would you say it is currently the best lion charger at this price point or there are other xtar (vc2, mc0 etc) that perform equally well and priced lower? Thanks.

It will always depend on what features you are looking at.

  • The 3 voltages is not very common.
  • Not all chargers can do 1A charge current.
  • Not all chargers can do 0.25A charge current.
  • Very few chargers has a precise voltage display

If you want all these features there is only the VP2, runners up are:

  • WP2h, it is missing the display (I am working on a review).
  • VP4, it is missing the 3 voltages (I am working on a review).
  • VP1, it is missing the 3 voltages.
  • VC2, it is missing the 3 voltage, the precise voltmeter and only has one current, but adds a charged capacity display.
  • Nitecore D4/D2, it has two voltage and two currents (D4: Extra low current possible with two batteries).

I see HKJ. Very complete explanation. I see it as this

1A charge current (Nice for fast charge)
Not all chargers can do 0.25A charge current (good for low cell capacities)
Very few chargers has a precise voltage display (nice add on too)

The nitecore d2 also seems good with the information you gave….
Thanks so much. Nitecore priced at 1/3 that of the VP2. So have to decide about features vs price!

Mountain king, I was in your boat this last week looking for my first good charger. I wanted one that could charge pretty much any battery I could want. I was looking at the Nitecore D4, but ended up going with the VP2 because it has the 3 voltage levels, and it’ll actually fit the longer protected batteries without damaging them. The D4 would not have fit them. The D4 can charge NiMH, but I already have a nice charger for those anyways

This charger doesn’t do any capacity readings?

The display does not have any digits for it:

Heh. Im in the exactly same boat as you. Lol! I already have a good NIMH charger technoline bc-700 I think. What’s up with thr 3 voltages stuff? Any way to ‘set and forget’ one voltage?

Most of the time you would use the middle setting, but some cells allow charging to a higher voltage, and the LFR cells require charging at the lower setting. So you could set to the middle voltage and leave it unless you use LFR. You would have to be more careful the current (amp) setting, maybe someone else can chime in on what current the VP2 defaults to.

.25a, (just turning it on)

Cool. So if you just “set and forget it”, you’re not going to damage your cells, but it’ll take forever to charge a decent 18650

Have you tried on 1.0A with quality protected batteries? It’s quite fast actually.

I was referring to if you just kept it at 0.25a.

Mine is supposed to be delivered Thursday
