Olight Javelot M2X-UT Review *Pic Heavy* ---===11/19/14 Updates===--- Dual Power Supply Capability

Ok Calvin.

No problem! I am glad I called earlier and talked to Craig! I will wait,I do not want to take a chance and ruin my light!

Thanks for your help!

s. I noticed the different knurling also. For some reason I did not register, that is where you come in!! lol!

True, except the Triton[which I have] is Not de -domed!! It is 91Kcd compared to 164Kcd!

I agree that otherwise it would be the same. I think the only reason someone would get the ext. tube is for longer run time[that is what is for] realizing that they would sacrifice compactness.

It came in a typical Olight plastic case.

Emitter is really clean:

Beam tint is on the neutral to cool white with a green cast. I wish there was a magenta filter to whiten it up, but could be a cool hunting light with a green filter.

Super clear image and they definitely did an excellent job de-doming that one!

Wow,that is clear image and a very clean de-dome! I hope mine looks like that!

I was wondering about that box Dale got! My M22 and M3X came w/ that plastic briefcase!!! lol,.

That was just a sample/review version!

That dedome is so perfect! And imagine they can make it so clean and neat on thousands of their M2X! :open_mouth:

I didn't know that at first. I've never seen the plastic case. The box looked neat and all, and of course I got no holster, no o-rings, no lanyard, no instruction manual. I had little to go on. And I wrote, as a Con, that it didn't come with these things. I got a fairly quick reply from Neal that I got a review sample, not shipped with accessories. Geesh, an instruction manual might have been nice! Then I'd have at least known what it was SUPPOSED to do, so I could test it more thoroughly. Oh well.

I measured everything I could think to measure. Metered everything I could put in a box or hook a wire to. Then tore it apart and rebuilt it. Gotta admit, 278.75Kcd sounds better than 164Kcd. Right? Gained more than a football field in throw, like beyond both endzones. Works for me.

Gotta say, that image makes me want to break out the 5DMkII and the Hybrid IS Macro lens and have a go at it my own self! Pretty sweet, that!

Here's the emitter out of my Javelot. Obvious that it came with a dome on it...

I am hoping mine looks like jeter68’s!! We both got it from Illums, then again, they ALL came from Olight in China!

I will find out tomorrow. Bottom line is as long as the beam profile is not affected, it shouldn’t matter,I hope halfway bent bond wires would stay stable!

Oh, did you want to see bigger? I reduced it to about 70% (shot with A77/150mm macro)

you gots a messy one

I am watching too much emitter porn today lol.

Great picture from you too Dale, it looks like Jeter68’s emitter is cleaner.

The bit of silicone stuck under the wire sure indicates to me they de-domed it themselves. Remember that this one is off the star, has been re-flowed and replaced.

The 5D MkII is a full frame sensor with 21MP. My macro lens is only 100mm.

This looks to be one for my collection! Is a group buy possible?

Mine looks and works perfect!! Can not wait until it gets dark!

My LED looks like jeter68 except[this is picky/critical!] both my bond wires are perfectly straight!! lol.

As I mentioned to other people, it does NOT have that big of a head. The pictures make it look bigger. Just like it does w/ most lights. It is very compact.

For the hell of it I connected the entire body of the M3X and it worked. So those threads are compatible. the tail cap is NOT.

The light has impressive run time on max.

NO use boring you w/ all the readings!

I ran the light in 5 minute increments[step down begins], let it rest a few and then checked voltage. After 40 minutes of combined time the Voltage was 3.64V.
ohh, yah,Through the entire test This light is NOT even close to getting hot. Tail stand w/ no fan and temp. was 63F on my loft.

I also found that the BODY of the M3X fits the head of the M2X and the UI works the same. It is almost 1” shorter this way. With the light being so compact and the run times are very sufficient to me, I really have no desire to do that.

HERE is the picture.M3X Body w/ M2X head and M3x head next to it!

Photo bucket is the only way I know to get a pic. on here. Just click the “Link”.

Looks like the head is more compact, is the M3X reflector deeper than the M2X-UT? Does the M3X also have the massive copper star under the emitter? Looks like the M3X would be a considerably better thrower with it's own emitter dedomed, hmmmm.....

I really like the size of the Javelot. A mix of a compact single cell light and a large head thrower, keeping the traits as much as possible of both. Laser beam like, even with the XM-L2, I bet a de-domed XP-G2 would be awesome! :)

Thinking outloud here, as it were, but I bet a reverse resistor mod to bring current down to 2.4A and a de-domed XP-E2 would be killer in this light. Talk about a pencil beam... Anyhoo. Just wondering out loud.

I just checked, the emitter is NOT any deeper inside the head. They seem to be exactly the same in that regard. The M3X has a few more fins on it and the head itself has more depth/length to it making it bigger. The circumference of the heads are the same and so is the reflector. I hope I explained that all right! I guess I could have said the reflectors are the same!

As far as the copper star.I have no idea!! I am not one who takes these apart because.
I can not mod them!

Time for dinner then off to the hiking trail! K40vn ~ 400Kcd, S200C2vn~ 130Kcd and the light of the night,M2X-UT ~165Kcd!

Just take the bezel off and drop the reflector out, have a look at the star. I will show copper on the sides if it is the same as the one in the M2X-UT. The put it back together.

I like to take the bezel off with the light upside down. This lets the reflector sit in the bezel and I don't have to worry about touching inside it. Have a look inside, then put it back together upside down again until the bezel is close to seated...then I flip it and watch that everything is right before snugging it back down. Easy peasy! ;)

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then please don't. Send me your M3X and I'll take it apart for you.

Thanks Dale,it was a piece of cake!! The reason I was apprehensive was because there was a period of several months where the oring kept bulging out! I took it apart 10 times and did not want it to happen again!

Anyway, your trick of doing it upside down is very easy and effective!

I believe they are the exact same copper stars. To the best of my ability[I did not want to take the screws off] I measured just under 1 7/16” You measured the M2X AT 35.6mm or 1 13/32”. I believe they are exactly the same!

Hey maybe you can turn me into a Modders assistant!!!

Now the pics.

M25C2vn[~300Kcd] and the M2X-UT. They are close in size. The M2X is 1/2” smaller. The M25C2vn has a more cone shaped, tapered and deeper reflector. I am guessing at least 1/2” deeper.
