Lowes Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Stopped by Lowes this morning on my way into work. None of those deals above found at my store (and no signs of cleared shelves with clearance tags either). I did spot an interesting new "Lux Pro" light (Lowes sells a bunch of Lux Pro branded lights now).

6xAA's, 3 mode (Hi-Low-Strobe), good hefty feel in the hand, non-slip rubberized grip, lifetime warranty, but old generation XM-L. Has an interesting reflector design. Still it's probably the best XM-L light available in a local retail store, even at $30. I'd nab one at $20; nab a ton at $10!

Yeah nothing like that here. The best deal I ever got was on a 100’ for 10 gauge wire for 50 bucks and that a lowes out of town too.

In socal they should have power company rate payer subsidized, high CRI, directional, and dimmable LED bulbs for a good price.

I just left Lowes with this light. Looks really good, XP-G2 and runs on 2 -D cells. The BEST kind of light for long run times for non flashaholics. Here are the pics in the store, I bought one and will do a tear down tonight when I get home.

Looks like maybe my store jumped the gun on Black Friday deals

Nope! I just realized THIS deal is ON. But only now until BF

280 Lumens, XP-G2. Designed in the USA but made in China.
It has modes so it is just not a cheap DD unit.

Switch is up front where it belongs!
And the batteries are included! (that’s worth $3 right there)

That rubberized grip feels good in the hand.

Without completely tearing it down in the store, it looks like a well made light. Look at those threads and spring, and like I said, the batteries are included. I just wonder how it will do on 2 NiMH cells?

At only $12.97 this looks like a steal. I think I am going to really like this light. I will probably post a separate tear down thread tonight and post a link here to it.
This is definitely one deal I think you all can take advantage of (USA and maybe Canada) .

Oh yeah, the 2nd deal is for another XP-G2 light for $14.97. Runs on 4 -AAA cells, yuck.
Some would like that though, just not me.

This one has a tail clicky

And it is a zoomy

^ Nice finds. I've been eye balling that 2D light for some time now. Was just too expensive before. Looking forward to your tear down thread.

dc - did you see the 600 lumen XM-L I posted above in post #35? Was it reduced as well? Yeah - seems your store jumped the gun on the BF deals!

EDIT - WAIT - on the pic of the display the box says "offer valid 11/19/2014 . . .". Hmm . . . there may be a stop at Lowes on my way home tonight :) .

2nd EDIT - looks like it says 11/19 to 11/26, so perhaps black Friday will see a lower price?

-Garry

LOL GB,

Translated:

Run!

EDIT: Wait!

EDIT2: Proceed with caution.

You have good points though. Are you thinking buy and exchange if it drops more?

I wasn't thinking to, no.

-Garry

Lowes website does show the 2D XP-G2 on sale until the 26th. The 600 lumen XM-L is only down $5 to $24.97.

-Garry

The light you posted about is only discounted to 24.97, not such a big deal. You stated your price point was $20.
Guys, it is important to note that these deals are on NOW and end on BF. I am assuming that if there are any left after that they will price at the original.

While you’re there check out this deal/

And see if they ring up for 49 cents for you.

Wow, I didn’t even realize those lights were on the floor before. I guess the regular price was just too high and I didn’t even give them a second look

It will be interesting to see what makes this thing tick. I hope they don’t use glue on these lights.

Thanks for the reminder on those vise grips. What I actually need (and can't believe they are so hard to find) is a pair of straight jaw ones (full size). Seems I lost mine and they were the good "Vice Vise Grip" branded ones.

EDIT - just dawned on me minutes later that they're not "vice Grips" but "vise grips" LOL!

I saw 2 Lux-Pro flashlights at Lowes that they have brought into the Holiday Gift section.

One is a 180 lumen at $9.97 http://www.lowes.com/pd_569176-51336-LP470C_0+2z8vj?productId=50193509&Ntt=flashlights&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dflashlights%26page%3D1&facetInfo=\$5%20-%20\$10

The other is about a 90 lumen for $7.99

Both are advertised as being marked down. I don’t know anything about them, so perhaps someone else can comment.

Thanks, Ed.

I guess I missed quite a few of the Lux Pro lights when I was there, I will look for them when I am next there.

The reflector and lens is plastic, the lens is held in place by a threaded ring. I have also seen that used in the Defiant 3D light from last year.

That is a good sized pill and the driver is secured in place with a threaded ring.

Lots of thread to make good thermal contact between the pill and the head of the flashlight. BTW, all threads were lubed or had thermal paste on them.

The pill is solid for good heat transfer from the star. Unfortunately the driver is potted. That compound is rock hard and I don’t think it could ever be removed without destroying the components underneath. Maybe the part # of the board can give us a clue as to what it really is. I know this, there is an inductor underneath all of that. I can see parts of it protruding from the edges.

The star with the XP-G2 LED. To me it looks like too much thermal compound was used. It is soft and I will remove the star and fix that later.

The plastic reflector and the centering ring.

I tested the tailcap current with the supplied Alkalines and got 2.05A on high, 0.45A on low. I was worried that this light wouldn’t work with NiMH but it turns out that is not a problem. In fact I measured the same exact tailcap current with them. In fact even at a 3.6V partially depleted Li-Ion cell gave the same tailcap reading. Lastly, running the light on just 1 NiMH cell, I measured a tailcap current of 1.82A and there was a very decent amount of light coming out of it.
For the past several years Lowes has offered the LED MagLites for their BF promotion. It could be that this year this is the light that unseats MagLite on BF. For that reason I have decided to compare the 2 with pictures and their beam shots.

Now the beam shots:
Lux Pro, 280 Lumen

The 2D MagLite with the reflector adjusted for maximum throw. Approx 130 Lumen

Conclusions? I like them both, decide for yourself.

Anyone see this light?

dchomak,

That's a pretty cool looking light. Liking that beefy pill. I think that light deserves it's own thread. Members will be doing some cool things with it and they shouldn't have to wade through this messy thread. It really is a cool light with a great feel in hand.

Yes, they have had an XP-G version of this light in the tool section for quite a while in a cardboard stand alone. I stopped at a Lowes' on the way home and they still had a tray of the older xp-g version, but now sitting in the flashlight isle. The one you alerted us to is a new XP-G2 version. Other than the emitter it looks identical.

I like that 2D; heck of a thick pill and a decent looking light. Not bad at all for $13.

Without actually looking at the lights, I would say they don't seem like much of a deal. They will likely be coming down in price. AAA have very limited capacity to start with. 3AAA does not have enough voltage (after sag) to properly drive modern emitters. If you like the lights, you could drop an 18500 in them without modification (well, a cardboard wrap to prevent rattle).

Now this chunky, masculine light sold like hot cakes for $20 last year. They were discounted to $10 today at the store I hit. With 4AAA it can better drive an emitter, but will still have limited capacity. The great thing is this light can easily be changed to fit a 26650. I still carry mine in my whatever car I'm driving everyday.

I modded one here.

I imagine 26650 cells don't fit this light. (I didn't get a chance to stop this evening.). The 2D LuxPro light.

-Garry

26650 generally will not fit a “C” cell light. There is plenty of width in a “D” cell light.
