New AAA on Ebay

Do you if either of these tailstand?

No, unfortunately. Although with my stash of 1xAA tailstandable lights I don't think I'd ever use a 1xAAA much as a long-term candle.

It has one major drawback as a keychain light, it comes on in your pocket. If it is going to live in my pockets I need either a recessed clicky (Which given the diameter of an AAA light isn't practical) or a twisty.

It does get warm by the time it has flattened a cell in your pocket.

The switch mechanism is positive enough, but the clip when not weighted with stuff tends to get in the way of operating the switch. Clipped to something external it could be a good, if larger, alternative to a Photon clone.

On an AAA NiMH (not fully charged it gives 98 lux at switch-on and 89 at 30 seconds 85 at 2 minutes. Will do it properly with fully charged cells soon but my AAAs are nearly all on charge just now.

It is brighter than the awful DX zoom AAA which has the same clip. It is also a lot less blue.

I put the link to it in merely to warn people to avoid it.

Nice, glad to see that the Tank007 E08 generic clone is decent. Can you confirm how DOES the switch work? Do you push in the post that has the hole through it for the carabiner?

Just bought the clicky one. Wouldn't care too much if it's a lousy light considering the cost.

Yes, you do push on the post. It actually feels quite positive if the clip doesn't get in the way.

Obviously, tailstanding is out of the question. I'd imagine the Tank007 version would be a lot nicer. It certainly ought to be at $10 more.

DX seem to have the same thing for $2.90 - a whole two cents more!

Oops, make that "glad to see that the Tank007 E08 generic clone is decent."

It arrived reasonably quickly too - I make it 16 days from order. Since there's no postmark or date on the envelope, I have no idea how much of that was postal delay and how much was waiting to get the thing posted.

Discovery of such a potential design flaw was exactly the reason I opted to first try this super-budget clone instead of shelling out the additional cash for a Tank007 E08. But now, after recently receiving what I thought should have been a dressed-up MXDL AAA (or faithful clone), but wasn’t, I have to wonder about the difference between the Tank007 and its cheapie-clone (other than led type). A clicky switch on a keychain light would seem to be a questionable design in any case, though.

My experiance with they was VERY good- I placed a order for some digital TV converter boxes many months ago... A day (or so) after I placed the order I noticed the unit I really wanted (Had power on-off button, channel-up down keys-would be FULLY functional WITHOUT a remote) was instock (other unit did not have extra buttons).

By the time I contacted them shipment was already on it's way to me showing in transit (US Warehouse)... Called them and they picked up shipping cost of units on their way to me via pre-paid shipping label, no addtional charge for replacing the order with the units I really wanted.

Lady that handled the transaction was friendly, proffesional.

Meritline spammer! J/K Meritline is good.

They used to be a retailer of mostly recordable optical media and other such related items. But I guess these days there's money to be made shipping cheapo crap from china :).

Now that you mention it, I think I bought CD-Rs from them. Back in the days when Taiyo Yudens were popular. I also bought some recycled ink for my printer. Mainly these days I just buy $0.25-$1.00 items from them

I got the MXDL clicky today. The construction looks decent. I was expecting bad quality but it's actually pretty good. Oh, it accepts a 10440

any idea how bright it it on a 10440

Huh, works with 10440? Not too shabby.

I'll have to try that when I get home.

It's a little bit less bright than my ITP A3 on med (with Energizer lithiums). It's definitely less bright than my BLF delight (also on Energizer lithiums). I'd say it's around 10-15 lumens with a 10440.

I tried a 10440 in my best MXDL clicky (I got 20 of them, and have been using the brightest one) and this thing is distinctly brighter than my iTP A3 on medium according to my naked-eye ceiling bounce test in the bathroom. Since I use the medium mode on my iTP about 90% of the time, I find this to be very useful. Though I'm not sure how long the MXDL will last running on 4.2 volts.

The Focalprice super-budget Tank E08 clones also showed up today, and I was impressed with the their appearance and function. The knurling is pretty good, and the matte finish is handsome and looks rugged. Standard generic Chinese led, with brightness comparable to, if just slightly less than, the MXDL clickies and twisties. The beam is a little blue, which was expected. The rear clicky switch does have a fair amount of side-to-side play, and it is easily activated with light-medium pressure. I wish the spring in the switch was stiffer. It seems stiff enough to not easily turn on accidently in the pocket if stand-alone (nothing attached) but I could see it coming on inadvertently if attached to the caribiner or other keyring attachments and being jostled in a tight pocket. All in all, pretty decent lights - just not sure that they are ideally suited for keychain duty. The form factor is pretty good, otherwise.

Thanks boomhauer for the update! I’m still waiting for mine to arrive, everything takes a few weeks longer down here.
