Lux Pro 2D XP-G2 light at Lowes, $12.97 now UNTIL Black Friday

6.36mm from the underside of the shelf to the ledge that the contact board would rest on. There’s not enough room for one, thought one could in theory use a short ring of copper pipe as a spacer and solder that to the contact board.

Thanks dchomak, got my LuxPro today from my local Long Island Lowes. Had to go through the stock because the ones in the front of the bin where the regular XP-G’s and the ones in the back where the newer XP-G2’s. Very happy with it.

Grabbed one this morning. The entire display was full (restocked maybe?). Everyone I looked at was an XP-G2. Seems really nice on the outside, great feel. It's not until you open it up that it looks like a Chinese budget light. I wonder how much resistance is in that stock switch/contacts. Seems it wouldn't be so good with an MT-G2 with (2) 26650's!

Checked on these at Lowes yesterday (Black Friday) and they were the same price - $12.97. Display price tag says 11/28 thru 12/6 I believe. My lowes seemed to still have tons of these lights at 5pm. Don't think they are appealing to people.

BTW- Do the LED Maglites not go on sale for 50% off anymore? I didn't see any.

-Garry

Nope, I think since they went the Home Depot way with a bunch of cheaply made lights, that they felt it's time to ditch Maglite. The junk Chinese lights are taking over here now. Look around. I see them at all the big retailers and even the smaller ones now. Hardly any Maglites around any more, but what is most upsetting, is that these lights coming in are actually worse quality than what we buy and the pricing is totally crazy. Way too high for most of them, as far as the quality goes.

I predict that within 3-5 years Maglite will either be sold off to a Chinese company, or made in China and assembled here. A way of life here, is almost totally gone, but then, so am I...

5 years ago Maglite announced some parts were manufactured in Croatia.
I don’t know if sales figures are in decline. I think Maglite is a private company without public quarterly reports.

I also read once that 300 million minis have been sold since 1984.

Picked up another last night but used my VA ID card and after the 10% discount paid $11.67

Tried a freshly charged 14500 and a dummy cell both in Eneloop AA to D adapters.
Modes worked fine, pulled 1.85 amps.
I may consider making my own wood dummy cell of the needed size to run one 26650.
That should yield tons of run time.

Anybody run an MTG2 on there yet?

Does the stock switch handle the 5A of current without melting. Well, that’s about how much I think it will generate in DD off 8.4v input.

Thanks,
bigC

That was my question.

Does anyone know whether this deal is still on? [ I realize that the deal said 11/19 - 11/26, but sometimes these things get stretched out…]

Thanks!

Yeah - I think the new display says til today at least. I expect it will still stay $12.97 another week, but I don't know for certain.

-Garry

The lights went up to $24.97 last week sometime down here.

They went back to full price after Thanksgiving here but seem to be selling briskly anyway. I don't think there will be any left for after Christmas clearance sales. It looks like few people noticed the XP-G and XP-G2 difference, the packaging is nearly identical.

Right now i am in Ohio, having traveled from Connecticut.

We don't like foreigners coming in stealing our flashlight deals . If you had an Ohio drivers license you'd get them at the discounted price .

Home Depot has also been alerted that you are in the area . :P

Eh, that’s too bad. Thanks for the info guys. Maybe some of the reasonably close stores will maintain enough inventory to mark them down after xmas.

Believe me, they already know. I stopped by every one along the way. Got some penny stuff at almost every one too

For those that didn’t get one or unable to get one for whatever reason. The light is fair. I returned 4 lights. All 4 led are off center. I kept the 5th although the led is off center. I gave up looking for a decent one. I think it also have pmw on low.

I kept one only because it makes a good emergency light with my AA to D adapter.

I also pretty much agree with this assessment. Pretty good light at $14.97, anything above that kills the deal. I also don’t like the way the power is transmitted from the switch to the driver. Large stainless or whatever material tab coming off of the switch that hits the spring on the underside of the driver when the head is screwed down. Problem is, it’s just hanging out there unsupported. Might be ok with positive support on the back side. As is, there’s not enough pressure between the tab and the spring to maintain good contact. There has to be a pretty good current loss through this connection. That’ll be easy to fix though.

I like the design but build quality on these does seem to be pretty substandard. I also ordered a small single AA Lux Pro light. Nice little light, except it came with the driver spring off center such that it only makes intermittent contact with the battery. Again, easy to fix, but shouldn’t have to be.
