For all the budget tablet / smartphone fans out there: BudgetAndroidForum.com

I just did. Seems to work fine.

Yep, Discourse is a pretty nice piece of software isn’t it?

Just registered, thanks! I’m looking forward to watching the community grow.

Great, thanks a lot! I also hope it’ll turn into a nice community. It’ll take some time, but hopefully it’ll get there.

This is a great idea. There’s a lot of curiosity out there but very little real info.

Just got an Onda V989 tablet, will check out the site

That’s my impression too. And of course at this point in time, information is fairly limited on the new site too. But as soon as my units arrive (should be another 30 days at the very least) I hope to become a lot more informed on the topic.

Ha, interesting! Which came first? Your purchase or my site?

Huh ? How is that even possible ? Do you have more details ?

+1
Even from the topic title I thought it was again another chinese bot spamming links about very suspicious stores. :stuck_out_tongue:

I have a 9.7" tablet, but I just use it for Kindle, so I can have a bigger screen and bigger fonts. My wife's is coming this week. It's an Onda 989 Octa core with the retina screen. She too will probably only use it for Kindle, but if she gets hooked, look out.

I think, from playing with my tablet for a few months now, it's just like Chinese lights, some come out good and others come out bad. Mine locks up all the time and there's nowhere to get any fixes for it. No updates and it's not like a PC where you can just change the software version. Android is too locked down to do much modding. I still think they are more for toys than real laptops. Great for simple games and simple programs, but the processors are slow and they have very little memory. Plus they can't be easily upgraded... but they are fairly cheap. Well, some of them are. Without help from dealers, I couldn't ever have gotten one, for sure.

Hooray, glad to see you over there Justin! (In true BLF spirit, he already left a review of his tablet over there. 8) )

All right all right…. :stuck_out_tongue: If you find the new site offline for about 10 minutes or so later today, that will be me setting up the domain redirection. Enough with me and clever domain names!

good idea sb! I am android guy and have a nexus 7 (2013) as well as an LG3 - but some of the inexpensive chinese tablets have certainly interested me - Ive been hesitant to buy one, since there are so many… and like OL says they seem to be a crap shoot.

Definitely looking forward to more info from this new forum and perhaps picking one up soon for use around the house or simple browsing.

I have the same one, my only complaint is that the touch screen is not as sensible as the Pipo M8pro, there are custom firmware available but i am waiting for more reviews on them.

For those who use their tablets as e-readers (Kindle, Nook, others)- are you on any free e-book mailing lists?

The two big ones I get are Hundred Zeroes and Digital Book Today. For awhile, I was getting one that was aimed more at self sufficiency- gardening, etc., but they transitioned to more budget than free.

Perhaps this should be a topic on the new forum?

I joined up yesterday,Billy2X,no spaces allowed :stuck_out_tongue: I prefer the new name.

I just read this for rooting and changing firmware for Onda 989, may be you can try it (make back up first).
Although usually become no more warranty, rooting can make your Android device more useful. At least can remove bloatware.
Actually many Android device can be updated and modified, it’s more open source.

Sounds like a great topic for a budget Android forum.

And…. at the insistence of our beloved users who are itching to flag me as a Chinese spammer… :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank god you changed the name.
In the same vein, should we expect BudgetKitchenForum, BudgetCarForum, BudgetFurnitureForum  ?

As soon as I can buy cheap kitchens, cheap cars, and cheap furniture directly from China and delivered for free to my door, you can bet on it! 8)
