Did I wire this 2D Mag with 2 MTG2's in parallel? Video of build....please advise?

Hi all,
I have a 2D Mag running 8.4V input and its a direct drive build for now, but my FET DD switch is on its way to me now for future upgrades.

Essentially, I want to run 2 MTG2’s in parallel so that both emitters require just 8.4V input. My thinking is if a single MTG2 in my other 2C Mag MTG2 DD build gets about 4.5A at tailcap off 8.4V input. Should I not be seeing 6~10A at tailcap off a twin MTG2 parallel build?

I wired the + on both LED’s to each other, then the - on both LED to each other. Last I choose one of the two LED’s and wired that one direct to the Mag switch +/-. Is this correct?

Thank you,
bigC

Amps will, if i am not mistaken, be the same or just a little higher. A single mtg2 can pull up to 9amp+ so the 4.5A is the most your batteries can give out. The wiring as I read it should be correct for parallel.

Likely the stock Mag D switch has resistance issues than.

So, can I assume each MTG2 in my parallel build is seeing 3A each? (which is what I get at tailcap off 8.4V input?)

Thats is a possibility that the switch is having resistance.

The easiest way of telling how many amp each led is seeing is by measuring tail cap amps and deciding by 2.
The most accurate may is by measuring at the LEDs it self. (One led can pull more amps then the other, but it will be in margine of error)

So, it is possible that I may have each MTG2 pulling 1.5A each only?

I was incorrectly checking the tailcap current. I actually have around 5.8A at tailcap

I checked one LED at the bezel and it’s 3A solid. So I’m actually getting ok current. I’m not terribly disappointed considering these 2 MTG2’s make the bezel HOT in minutes.

I can only imagine how hot the bezel would get if I got 10-12A at tailcap. That would be serious heat problems

Thank you all

im happy you solved the problem. what was it if i may ask?

Nice video!

You might be able to balance the current between the two LEDs better if you wire the + to one LED and the — to another, not both to the same LED.

That was going to be my next move on this build.

Eventually; I was going to try just wiring both /- from each LED direct to Mag switch. Effectively having 4 wires going to switch/- accordingly.

Do you have your springs copper braided? It helps quite a bit. I've built Mags with stock switches that pull >7a at the tail on stock switches. I'm also looking into improving the mag switches themselves.

I soldered a thick wire in spring the same way braided copper is used. I have braided copper and used it in tailcap springs too, but just cant seem to find it in my stuff since my latest residence move.

The switch can be dramatically improved by simply spraying Deoxit into the switch where you normally insert the T8 bit. I noticed at least a 25% increase in tailcap current spraying into switch and working it 50ish times to make sure it spreads evenly inside switch.

Hmm, sounds like a good tip! Thanks.
