Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

I went in to HD to pick up some Cree 60w bulbs as a gift for a friend who has a hodgepodge of CFLs that must start around 100 lumens before working their way up to 700 after a good 3 minutes.

They have the 60w 93 CRI bulbs on clearance for $7.50, more than 1/2 off. Scanning the barcode or entering 1000022805 brings up a Kohler toilet tank, but they are these bulbs just not in the 6 pack - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Cree-TW-Series-60W-Equivalent-Soft-White-2700K-A19-Dimmable-LED-Light-Bulb-6-Pack-BA19-08027OMN-12DE26-1U100/204609903

I bought 6 of them but might go get the rest. I personally haven't used these before, and they do consume a little more power, but 93 CRI is nice.

That is nice.
I just noticed the other day these lights in a corner of the store at $15.00, marked down from $15.97. $7.50 is a price worth considering though. I will definitely check my store out again.

When you see this kind of crazy stuff in the app it can mean that these could go for even less in the future, they are no longer in the system.
Keep watching these in any store you’re in until they are gone.

I stopped in several HD’s
This one had the “screw in” LED light fixtures that I mentioned earlier at $19.96 reduced to $8.96! That’s as cheap as just the bulb. These have been reduced to 12.96 in Connecticut.

They really are a great idea. This “bulb-fixture” screws into a common porcelain fixture and ends up flush with the ceiling so it ends up looking like an installed light fixture. I bought 7. I had already bought 3 more in CT at 12.96 as I thought THAT was a good deal. Now I can return those 3 and get my $39 back.

Done!

Here is what is inside

But the real deal at this store was this

Notice the price, $75.06. Now this is not Connecticut or New York or PA or Ohio, all states that I have scored penny deals before. This is a new State, Massachusetts. The date on the box is 06/02/14, and the price ends with a “6”. Prior to this I had seen this Little Dog Remote Trainer marked at $25.03 so I was certain this would ring up at a penny. This store in MA has price checkers throughout the store, really makes it easy to check prices. This price check station was right next to the display I found this at.

But there is going to be a problem with this. It has an anti-theft device strapped to it, so how do I deal with this?

  1. I could just pass over it and not bother.
  2. I could go up to the self help checkout girl and tell her I plan to buy this and would you FIRST remove the anti-theft device?
  3. Or do the smart thing, FIRST go through the self checkout, buy and PAY for it, then before leaving the store ask the self checkout girl to remove it.

So that’s what I did.

The checkout girl (woman) looked at my receipt and said it was wrong, so she scanned it again. Then she looked up the SKU and got some crazy item as cone described above. Then she said that HD does NOT sell stuff for a penny. I pointed to my receipt and told her yes they do, there’s the proof. Then she called over the head cashier. She told me the same things, to which I countered with rational answers. Then she said, oh I know why this was on clearance, someone brought it back and it is broken. I was ready for that one! I told her, maybe so, but I know HD has a liberal return policy and if it is you can be sure I will return it and get my money back. Then I got a little more firm and told her that this item in MINE, I paid for it and I have the receipt, would you just remove the anti-theft device so I can leave.
At that point she called the manager on her phone, explained the whole situation again to him and I heard her repeat $10. At that point I said NO, let me talk to him. She gave me the phone and I told the manager that it was MINE, I paid for it and have the receipt, what do you plan on doing, TAKE it from me? To that he said OK. I gave the phone back to the head cashier and she spoke to him for a very short time and hung up. I parted on friendly terms, but the original self checkout girl was not at all happy with me.

dchomak, you are my hero!

I only wish I could have such talent out here on the left coast…

No good deals in the HDs I visited locally. There's always next time :)

I returned 3 of the screw in light fixtures today at my local HD as I had bought some yesterday in MA for $4 less each, saving $12 on the 3. The money didn’t stay in my pocket long though as I came across this.

This is one of the Black Friday deals and was $29.98. Later on they were reduced to $23.00.
If your HD still has one, you can now get it for $15.04

BTW, yesterday I found many more penny deals on that I will post later.

Damn, I picked that up for $23. Pretty sure they are all gone at my store now.

Also, I bought more of the 93 CRI Cree bulbs to bring the total to 9, thinking that was the last of them. Went back and there were two more boxes on the shelf (6 each), and saw two more above in storage. Here's hoping that they don't get sold and the price drops even more.

we do not have such a shop in Austria…

but i love to read your stories

Geez DCH! No such luck at my local HD either.

Oh, I almost forgot . . . I did notice 3D Maglite LED's going for $18 on clearance. These were up near the registers at my store. And I also noticed that my store moved it's clearance section (probably a tactic).

dchomak, you're a machine. I hit a HD, but was not able to score any of those. All the Ryobi grinders were full price. I don't know if any were that specific model though. I did get a couple night lights for a penny each.

So what all did you score for a penny?

Would you please post a pic of that nightlight? Was it the one that turns on when it “hears” a smoke detector going off? All the HD’s around here had them on clearance for $2.03 but they either sold through at that price or I missed out.

It was only on that specific “BF” grinder. All their other grinders, even another 6” grinder are at full price. The BF grinder does not have a work light.
This store has 8 of these in stock at $15.04, so they are still out there at some stores.

Yes it was that light. The moved them to a clearance bin at the store I was at. Supposed to brighten when alarm goes off. Don't have time to take a pic right now. Will try to tonight.

This is not part of my big score on Sunday when I went thru Massachusetts to visit my brother, I will post those later.
I found this deal a couple of days ago using information that I had remembered from the start of this thread by ImA4wheelr.
In June of this year Lowes changed lines on clamps, vises etc and cleared out all of their Bessey line. To replace them, they brought in the Irwin line. A lot of those deals are posted in the Lowes Deal Alert Thread
At the same time, Home Depot cleared out their Irwin line and brought in Bessey. Some of us were able to benefit from the clearance carnage at BOTH stores!
Knowing this, whenever I see an Irwin product in Home Depot, I know that it still shouldn’t be there and could ring up for a penny.
The other day I found this item on a clearance shelf at HD, here is a pic of that same item in Lowes for they now carry Irwin.

But HD no longer does! So I grabbed it and……………
a penny.

I didn’t realize how useful this tap holder is until later. How many times in tapping a hole or chasing some threads has one had to “cheat” and to get extra torque have connected and adjustable wrench to the tap in order to turn it? Not only does this tap holder have that removable bar, but it is made to take a 3/8” ratchet. NICE.

There is little or no chance anyone else can find this deal, I am only pointing this out because there is more than 1 way to find these penny deals, this time with knowing when remnants of a previously carried line is found.

^ Great advice and find.

Up above you asked me to take a photo of the nightlight I got for penny. I apologize for not taking one last night. I can tell you that it isn't this one which is still full price. It looks pretty much the same though.

Got a nice Hunter ceiling fan for $25.03 a couple of days ago. Was really hoping that it would ring up for a penny but, no such luck. Either way, I was in need of a ceiling fan and $25 is a heck of a deal!

Yea, that is a heck of a deal. And I know what you were thinking, should I buy it now at a heck of a good price or wait and try and get it for a penny and probably not get it and miss out entirely. If you need it then it is definitely better to take the sure thing.
I remember once when I held a tag sale, I had something marked at 50 cents, I don’t remember what, but say it was worth $10. A guy came up and offered me 25 cents! Without really thinking I blurted out “50 cents is a good price, if that’s not cheap enough for you, then you really don’t need it in the first place!” After thinking about it, it was true. Having said that, IF it’s a penny!, well then I WANT it, whether I need it or not.
Right now I’m home eating lunch a getting ready to go to HD to get a starter ballast for a florescent light fixture and I’m going to have to pay FULL price. |(

Here you go, I hope you appreciate me doing your work for you
As I said, these were everywhere when they were $2.03, but when they went to a penny I couldn’t find any :frowning:

I got one of those hunter fans for my parents about a week ago.

My closest Home Depot is 30 miles from my home, and is awkwardly located, making it difficult to get into and out of when I am close by. It's a particularly poor one, and I've never found any good deals there. If it was closer or more convenient, I'd stop by more often to look for deals. Cry

Thank you ImA4Wheelr. Your post of the “wrong” one, the one still at full price and my subsiquent posting of the “right” one, made me aware of the subtle difference between the 2 and allowed me to spot the penny one from a distance. The wrong one has the red bar across the package and the right one doesn’t.

I had to go to a Home Depot today to pick up an exterior pre-hung door, and being as  as I am I decided to change out our door on the coldest day of the year. Of course on the way to the back of the store, I scanned the isles looking for you know what. Saw this from 30 feet away.

3 of the penny lights hiding amongst with one of the “wrong” ones. The wrong one sells for $9.97, but there they were, 3 penny lights hanging right out in plain sight. So I grabbed them and headed for the self checkout line.
I have never seen this before, CLOSED!

So, I went to the back of the store to get my door carrying the lights with me hoping that when I come back it will be open. I met with a sales person and he even went and got me a flat bed cart to carry the door. I went back up front to the self checkout and it was STILL closed. Nothing left to do now except bring the lights back and miss out on the penny deal.
I re-hung the lights and headed back to checkout, only NOW self checkout is open again! So I went back got the lights and went to self checkout. Because the door is so large I first asked the self checkout girl to scan the SKU for me, Then I asked her for the 5% discount for using my HD credit card, THEN I scanned the 3 lights. For it to work out it had to be done in that order.

As for finding penny deals all I can offer as encouragement is, I can do it, others have done it and you can do it too.

Penny deals can be right under your nose, but if you don’t have the eyes to see you’re going to miss them.

EDIT: This time I paid less than I penny because I asked for and got my 5% discount for using my credit card. 5% off of 0.01 is 0.0095
