ThruNite Ti Christmas Limited Edition (Unboxing & mini vid review)

Nice so you got one Dale that is good news, please check if you see any way of modding this one by upgrading the driver, is is probably not possible but if anyone can find a way it is probably you
And you know i can’t wait for the numbers

In this little beautiful Ti twisty the Lithium battery I’m using is out of my razor, so it’s not new. :stuck_out_tongue:

Energizer Lithium AAA

0.03A for 0.1 lumens
0.09A for 10.6
1.35A for 155

Efest IMR10440

0.04A for 0.31 lumens
0.78A for 251
2.25A for 600

The head of the light is ground isolated from the driver, providing lock-out for the twisty action. It’s so tiny my fingers weren’t cooperating to get amp readings, I need to go get a piece of sheet copper or brass and I’ll get some numbers. Will return…

Edit: Added amperage figures.

Edit: I had spoken with Thrunite about the binning of the emitter and was told it is an XP-L V4 1C

nice review! nice light!

Did I read this correctly? On an Efest IMR 10440, this light puts out 600 lumens?? Is it safe to use this cell? If not, why would u take a chance on ruining a great lil light? Sheeesh, I’ll settle for the medium mode output! Get hot on high? Dumb question? Thanks for a soon reply as I have an Amazon gift card

I’m not battery sabe. Could u give a few pointers on the IMR? Thanks.

patrick

I won’t be using the IMR cell in this one. It’s a very pretty little light and I don’t want to mess it up…yes it gets hot and in true Titanium form it keeps the heat in the head and stays warm for a while after you use it.

Great little light with the Lithium Energizer, I’ve got my Texas Poker running close to 1000 lumens off the Efest IMR10440 if I need that level of output. May end up gifting this Ti light anyway.

The Efest IMR10440 puts out the most power in this size cell of any out there. It’s only 350mAh capacity, but will deliver over 3A in my FET driven Texas Poker. Great little cell. Too much for this little light and may damage the driver if used very long.

thanks Dale for your prompt reply, much appreciated. Question please: Would it be safe to run this light on the medium mode with the Efest, or not? Thanks in advance.

Medium on the IMR is less amperage than high on the Lithium Energizer so it should be fine.

I really don’t get it though. Why is 1.3A on the AAA…never mind, it’s half the voltage. Duh!

But still, medium on the IMR is .78 vs approx .6 with the AA cell so it should be fine, as long as it’ll run without burning your fingers.

The real danger is having someone leave it laying with the IMR in it and on High, it’ll overheat and probably desolder the emitter. While that, in and of itself, isn’t such a bad thing…if the de-soldered positive lead touches a ground surface and shorts the cell….

does anyone have a li-fe they want to try in it?

what final price did you guys get it?

ThruNite don't sell in China.

It's limited edition, are they out of stock or they just don't want to sell in China?

@fishinfool - Thx buddy and aloha!

@cajampa - Thx and sorry, not ready to try a 10440 yet, don't want to let the magic smoke out before I get a chance to wrap up this review. However, Dale has already tried it with measurements posted.

@WWEFANS - Vid should be viewable and yes, it's the one in your link. My sample was provided by ThruNite for review. It's a shame they don't sell this one in China, are you able to order from Amazon?

@djozz & netrpince - Thx!

@r9dmMT - Such a small pack and it was really gritty though...

@DBCstm - Dale, are you using a PVC set up? If so, mind sharing your feedback in my revived thread (https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/6918). I recalibrated and remeasured in 400 range on my light meter and got pretty much the same numbers w/NiMh as you did with lithium cell (10.6 on L and ~150 on max).

@saypat/mm - wouldn't really recommend using any cells other than NiMh or a primary lithium. Even a LifePO4 would charge over 3V, that's not to say that I'm not tempted (just don't have a cell to try with). However, as with lights using similar driver, output will be between the Lithium and LiIon measurements Dale provided.

EDIT: What might be a good compromise is a 1 x AAA extension to turn this into a 2 x AAA light (should one want slim light w/max output).

Thanks Dale, 600 lumens that is crazy………and thanks for thinking ahead for me, i don’t own a titanium light so that kind of info was exactly what i needed to setting me straight.

I think i will wait for an updated aluminum Ti3 or an i3s with a XP-L that may stand the heat a little better so i can use it like i want

I think the XP-L is proving out nicely, enabling small lights like this to make real output with less than 1A current. 250 lumens at just over 750mA is fantastic and you could use that without worry of heat in my opinion.

Those ugly yellow/orange little Solitaires are a thing of the past, Thank God!

I have a chopped AA MiniMag that uses a single 14500 and runs a quad XP-L. (crazy, well, Yeah!) Couple THOUSAND lumens, from a very small light. Yeah Baby! :stuck_out_tongue:

Small thrower? I have an XP-E2 in a Micro Mag, a very chopped AA MiniMag that runs on a single 14250 and makes 500 lumens with a tight hot spot, crazy small, difficult to turn on one handed as there’s not much body under the AA Mag head. And it’s Purple! Gorgeous!

But how in the world can Thrunite give us this Ti beauty, superbly polished, for $30? How could I have possibly passed that up? Well done Thrunite, well done!

ok, ok, you’re talking me into it. I’ll get this for my 2nd Titanium light, and I’ll order some Efest from Richard… Does the flat top Efest cell work in this light??? It won’t work in the EagleTac.

thanks. Hoo-yah!

Flat-top's likely won't work since there isn't a nodule on the positive side. Would need a cell with a tip on it. Wouldn't recommend a magnet since there are solder points very close to the positive junction.

could one solder a blob on the flat top? Is that safe? Thanks. Or, if not, recommend me a cell, please? Thanks.

Yes a solder blob will work, as long as it's done properly so there's no risk of it breaking off and causing a short.

As for cells, I tend to be risk adverse so would suggest sticking with AAA Eneloops but as Dale mentioned, as long as you are prudent with the usage, you should be able to use LiIon cells.

The Efest IMR 10440 is the top of the class and readily available. It only comes one way, and it works in this light. No solder bumps, magnets or funny faces.

I wanted to buy one, but CW is no go.
Mike

Soldering on lithiums is really not a good idea, people do it sometimes anyway but the proper and safer way is spot welding.

If you need a blob maybe place it on the bat+ on the driver instead.

Anyway Dale said the efest worked stock so there is no need for it anyway
