ThruNite Ti Christmas Limited Edition (Unboxing & mini vid review)

Thanks Dale, 600 lumens that is crazy………and thanks for thinking ahead for me, i don’t own a titanium light so that kind of info was exactly what i needed to setting me straight.

I think i will wait for an updated aluminum Ti3 or an i3s with a XP-L that may stand the heat a little better so i can use it like i want

I think the XP-L is proving out nicely, enabling small lights like this to make real output with less than 1A current. 250 lumens at just over 750mA is fantastic and you could use that without worry of heat in my opinion.

Those ugly yellow/orange little Solitaires are a thing of the past, Thank God!

I have a chopped AA MiniMag that uses a single 14500 and runs a quad XP-L. (crazy, well, Yeah!) Couple THOUSAND lumens, from a very small light. Yeah Baby! :stuck_out_tongue:

Small thrower? I have an XP-E2 in a Micro Mag, a very chopped AA MiniMag that runs on a single 14250 and makes 500 lumens with a tight hot spot, crazy small, difficult to turn on one handed as there’s not much body under the AA Mag head. And it’s Purple! Gorgeous!

But how in the world can Thrunite give us this Ti beauty, superbly polished, for $30? How could I have possibly passed that up? Well done Thrunite, well done!

ok, ok, you’re talking me into it. I’ll get this for my 2nd Titanium light, and I’ll order some Efest from Richard… Does the flat top Efest cell work in this light??? It won’t work in the EagleTac.

thanks. Hoo-yah!

Flat-top's likely won't work since there isn't a nodule on the positive side. Would need a cell with a tip on it. Wouldn't recommend a magnet since there are solder points very close to the positive junction.

could one solder a blob on the flat top? Is that safe? Thanks. Or, if not, recommend me a cell, please? Thanks.

Yes a solder blob will work, as long as it's done properly so there's no risk of it breaking off and causing a short.

As for cells, I tend to be risk adverse so would suggest sticking with AAA Eneloops but as Dale mentioned, as long as you are prudent with the usage, you should be able to use LiIon cells.

The Efest IMR 10440 is the top of the class and readily available. It only comes one way, and it works in this light. No solder bumps, magnets or funny faces.

I wanted to buy one, but CW is no go.
Mike

Soldering on lithiums is really not a good idea, people do it sometimes anyway but the proper and safer way is spot welding.

If you need a blob maybe place it on the bat+ on the driver instead.

Anyway Dale said the efest worked stock so there is no need for it anyway

Hmmmm, you say the Efest works, Turbo says not likely. And he did a review on the light, the same light. So, the Efest works in some of the lights, and not in others? Is that what I take away from this? Ugh!

If Dale says it works, i know you can trust that. And remember turboBB haven’t tried a 10440 yet because he haven’t reviewed it yet, the video was a quick unboxing and mini review, the full review will come later.

I thought myself of buying this light but only if i could use a 10440 somewhat safely in it (as in the light wont destroy itself, i am not scared of a little burnt skin  but Dale reminded me of titaniums lower heat transfer ability, that makes this light less suitable for a 10440.

If Dale says even he wouldn’t use a 10440 in this light i would listen to him, if you like it buy it as a beautiful titanium AAA light  and not as a 600 lumens on efest 10440 until it burns the driver or desolder the led light :frowning:

Remember skin heals but a led or fried driver won’t

Hmmmm, I do tend to go for the whole Enchilada…I don’t have any 10440’s that aren’t Efest IMR. I’ve got 14 of these little beauties. BUT, a lesser 10440 could be used in this Ti light and not make the big power, that’d probably be all right. I don’t know. Has AW started doing 10440’s again? Seems like it’s the Efest or a TossYourAssInTheFire cell. Since I don’t have any Fire cells, well, can’t say how they’d work.

The thing is, most of the time when you use a little tiny keychain sized light like this it’s to find your keys in the grass. (wait a minute, how did you lose your keys and still have the light?) Y’all know what I’m saying…the little AAA light is used to find the keyhole (after you find your keys) and for a lady to dig around in her purse looking for that , uh, balloon she keeps in there. Stuff like that, you know. Now, I doubt some primped up lady at the back of the club with her purse wide open would want this shiny little purdy Ti light to blast off with 600 lumens and draw a lot of attention to the shiny little .25ACP she’s also got in there blocking her from finding that …. well you get the idea.

Most of us guys have some kind of 18350 or 18650 triple or quad or something so when 600 lumens is needed, brother we GOT it! Y’all can relate, I’m sure.

Ok, rant over.

Loading up the belt pack of 5500mAh Lipo cells to run this little jewel by wire…

:stuck_out_tongue:

PS: Did you know that if you heat up Titanium to red hot it will cool off a really pretty sky blue in color? Or a rainbow of blue/purple/gold? Heat anodized, Ti is fantastic in that regard.
Wonder how this little Thrunite Ti light would look after some flame?

Nice pic :-), what light are that?

That is one of Sinner’s Titanium prototypes, known as the Sinner Ti. The 3rd he ever made I think. Something like that. I have 2 Ti lights and an EDC 18350 in solid copper from him.

I put a bolt through it, mounted it in a drill press, spun it up and held a propane torch to it. Focused longer on the head and feathered it off to the tail.

What’dya think? Would the little Thrunite Ti look neat in living color?

Wow great mini light!!

Hmm i can’t decide, i really like the stock polished Ti look on the ThruNite Ti, but i don’t have any Ti lights so the straight Ti look is still special enough for me

It’s tiny, near weightless, and brilliant. Gotta love it! Now I have to bring myself to put it on a keychain. Yikes!

I don’t even remember anymore how i found out about this tiny light, but i guess it was on Youtube by accident.

And well i’am thinking, a little tiny light on the Keychain would have been handy in quite a few situations.
But i’ll get to the point now, i’m that kind of guy that hates bulk, and is already quite annoyed about having a 5 ounces-Folding Knife as an EDC therefore a light would have to be lightweight (what a sentence) without beeing useless regarding the light-output.

Do you think the Thrunite Ti Titanium would be a viable option?
It’s available through Amazon for around 30€(36:money_mouth_face: with free shipping, the Aluminum-One (Ti3?) is exactly half the price of it.

So are they any other viable options as a Keychain-LED Light that would be more recommended? Is the Ti worth the 15$€ extra?

That appart what about lumination? How does it compare in the lower modes using an Efest10440 imr (high=600lm medium=200 low=(?))

Only thing that turns me off is the Setting: 0,5lm (its nothing) 12lm(still almost nothing) 162lm (BOOM IN YOUR FACE)
Something about 50-60lm range would be great for most tasks.

Tell me what you think, an thanks for the help!

BTW: Other reknown lights at the same pricepoint and readily available through amazon in europe would be: Olight i3s(20$€), Fenix LD02 (30$€)/LD05(20$€), Thrunite Ti3s(15$€)

I managed to miss this when it was new. Looks like a rather nice light except for the weird memory function and the odd Thrunite signature mode spacing.

If I understand correctly, the memory works like this:

  • Off for 0 - 2 seconds: next mode.
  • Off for 2 - 10 seconds: same mode / memory.
  • Off for 10+ seconds: reset to first mode.

Would be nice if it was just 0-2s next and 2s+ reset. However, it’s still an upgrade from the T10 series, which always has mode memory.

I’ve also found Thrunite’s firefly / medium / max mode spacing to be unfortunate. Their lowest mode is a bit too low (should be ~0.20 lm instead of ~0.05), and instead of medium at 12-20 lumens it should probably have two levels (~5 and ~40 lumens).

Regardless I’m still tempted to get one. The steel version is on sale for $20 now from amazon, and comes in neutral white, or titanium for $30 (no mention of tint). Either would work well on a keychain, though steel would definitely hold up to abrasion better.

these Ti Twisties are on sale for 20 bucks
they have both Neutral White and Cool White
WARNING: I just learned the now have Next Mode Memory… barf!

I already have a TiXmas in Cool White,
with an eneloop pro I get
0.09
10.5
145 lumens

hated the gritty threads, recently found a lube that solves that problem… tempted to buy another one… in NW this time

I do not put much stock in the weblink showing 162 lumens, I just think its a cool Ti Host

the lowest mode is lower than an HDS, and sufficient for my walk to the bathroom in the dark
the medium mode is effective indoors, and the High mode I seldom use, except to wow myself briefly…
