FastTech SolarStorm SC01/02/03 lights

Anyone tried to get a replacement from fastech/solar storm? It’s obviously a consistent manufacturer mistake…

I got the money back and ordered a 1405 Instead

I got my SC02 last week. It worked the first time I tried, but now suddenly not working. I have no clue why it stops working after a week unused. Battery voltage still full.
What could be the problem ? Bad switch ?
From what I’ve read , it seems fixing this is a very delicate process.
This is the worst $15 I spent on a flashlight. Even my cheapest $2 worked for at least 3 weeks.

Press and hold the switch for 7 seconds. Does it enter stobe mode?

nope. the led stays dead.
Too bad I found this thread too late.
RMA will cost me more than half the price of SC02 alone.
This could only mean I just burnt my $15 for nothing.

I disassembled mine, tightened everything (circuit board was sticking out by a half mm), assmbled and it worked for a week before it died again. There’s one solution - throw it away and stay away from Solarstorms, they’re very unreliable.

Yup. I guess that’s the best thing to do.
I was just tempted by the size & the look.
For $5 more, I could get a Eagle Eye X6 SE which is fantastic compared to this piece of shxx.
This is the most expensive torch I’ve ever bought……$15 for just 2-3 min of light LOLLL

After hearing all of the driver failures others are having with these lights i must have gotten 3 lucky ones that still work great.
At least now i will be prepared for them to go dead. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been carrying an SC01 CW since April and it hasn’t missed a beat, and I’m addicted to clicking the side switch often as a nervous habit. Annoys the women-folk to no end. I have never run it for an extended period on high, though. I seem to most use the long-press low to aid aging eyes, but is nice to have 500 lumens in such a small package when I need to see what’s in the woods. I ordered some a couple weeks ago for gifts and a NW for myself. Didn’t see all the issues people are having until now but when you can get three of them and a very good 14500 for the price of an Olight S15, it’s worth a gamble.

Out of curiousity I installed 18650 cell in my faulty SC02. And it worked, my light fixed itself after over a month of doing nothing…

Interesting, was it a different battery?

Just found out that from off a long click switches the light on in a lowlow mode, another click to off…no need to go over the high mode to off.
Thought that this feature is unknown to others as well so I wanted to write it down…

The same 18650 cell. Another low mode is not a secret for a while.

Does the SC01 only work with a 14500 or can AA nimh be used?
Thanks,
Jerry

AA can be used, fhe light worked great on Nimh while it lasted.

My SC01 and SC03 are both dead, and these look very un-moddable because of the e-switch mount and tight space for a driver piggyback option. They have been added to my shelf of shame (unmoddables, or too difficult to mod for now)...

i just got my sc03 from banggood.

I bought the NW 3C tint and was expecting an XM-L LED but it seems that they ship the NW version with XM-L2 now.
The size is really nice, I bought it to use with CR123A primaries, but after reading this thread I hope the flashlight lasts for a while.

The light is definitive NW. I made a pic with the Nitecore P12 2015 CW in the middle and Fenix PD35 2014 CW on the right. The one on the left is the sc03.

My SC01 came out really nice after a driver and LED upgrade, see post #27 here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/26146.

If anyone has a dead SC01 or SC03 and would like to get rid of it, I'll take a couple of them for $12 shipped each, as long as they are in excellent condition. Both my SC01 and SC03 died (post #220 above), but this upgrade makes it into a very nice light Wink.

Bump - repeating my offer. If you have a dead or working SC01 or SC03, or even a SC02 and want to get rid of it, I'll take it for $12 shipped if in good to exc. condition.

I was looking to buy two of those for presents but then I read some negatives arround PWM and reliablity of the driver.

Banggood is now offering CW/NW options and they are specified as “Solarstorm SC02 2014 new”.

Anyone has an idea about what was actualy changed in this new version ? Any chances that the issues were fixed ?

Thanks

I have 2x of the SC02 and SC03, and you’ll get ’em when you pry them out of my cold, dead hands.

But seriously, I really like mine. Drop them all the time (not on purpose!), work fine last a long time. I think I bought mine when this thread first came out.
