Your pocket/keychain flashlight?

Thanks Streamer! Mine is about the same color, except I left the tailcap black. Wife thought I was a nut, but it was fun…

What parts do you have to remove?

Should have looked at your avatar closer before I posted

Looks pretty cool and I never even thought about doing something like that. Thanks for the link.

All you want in the oven is aluminum. NO plastic/ lenses, orings, driver, led, switch parts, rubber boots...get the idea???

My current kit is a Thrunite TN12 NW on its belt holster, a Ti3 CW on the collar of my shirt (Bluetooth mini microphone-style), and a Fenix E01 on the steel chain around my neck. Can’t say I’m exactly carrying a “pocket” or “keychain” light right now :stuck_out_tongue:

  • Is it a AA or AAA or lion? The TN12 is 18650 Li-Ion, the E01 and Ti3 are both AAA.
  • Why’d you choose that one? The TN12 because it was (and still is) the best and cheapest 1x18650 light I could get, and I need that much brightness; the E01 because of its battery life; and the Ti3 was kind of an impulse purchase, although since then I found it to be a better casual source of moonlight than the TN12’s slightly too powerful one, and more accessible to boot.
  • How long have you been carrying it? The E01 for some 8 or 9 months, the TN12 going on 7, and some 3 weeks or so for the Ti3.
  • How often do you use it? The TN12’s been catching a break, seeing as I’m currently still on vacation from nocturnal university classes, the Ti3 I use all the time even if it is to play around a bit like any good flashaholic, and the E01 comes out when I need just a practical bit of good light right away.
  • How’s it working for you? Impeccably, all of them. Though I have to say that the Ti3 is a replacement one because the one I actually purchased went SNAFU in early November, four days after the arrival on the mail. This new one arrived mid-January, and it’s been as good as when first fed a battery.
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? The E01 is fairly beaten up from grinding against the chain and the occasional workplace key I put along with it. The bezel is slightly dented in places, the knurling on the head has a few spots without the anodizing, and all of the tail’s edges are shiny grey by this point. The TN12 took some nasty falls since its arrival, but only a bit of the HA has come off - two small spots on the tailcap’s edge, and a very thin ring of it around the bezel has been scraped off. And despite all my care, I dropped the Ti3 one single time since its arrival; it was this week when I was holding it up while adjusting a curtain rail. It fell from more than two meters onto a polished cement floor, and all it has to show is a ding on the tail’s edge that can only be measured in micrometers. While Fenix is no slouch in the anodizing department, Thrunite really knows how to give a finish to their lights!
  • Do you carry more than one? I think I already answered that question

I actually was planning to rotate an Olight S10R I got into the kit, but ten days after I got it from the mail and right before I could take it to workdays (I was on vacation), it stopped working all of a sudden when I twisted the tailcap a bit for physical lockout like I often did. When I unscrewed it fully, a metal ring with external threading fell out - it seems to me like a nut of sorts to hold the tailcap curcuit assembly in place. I’m waiting to get one back from the store.

I must also recommend this light, since it’s one of the best available. I wouldn’t put one on a keychain, but it’s a great item to clip to pants or a purse or to whatever else you take everywhere with you. I’ve had mine since the SC52 was a brand new model, and it’s still in near-mint condition despite lots of daily carry. I suspect it’ll last through decades of use.

Was a bit pricey :stuck_out_tongue:

On my keyring is a Trustfire Mini01 with CR123 in it.
In my pocket is a Sunwayman V11R with 16340 in it.

Im happy with both.
Theyve lasted a year or so now.
No marks on the V11R but I tend to make sure it’s in my pocket with nothing else. The Mini is on a keyring but I havent really looked for marks. I would assume it would have a few blemishes by now.
They both work great for the type of use they are designed for. They arent much good for hunting, but will stop you falling in hole at night, and can light up letter box numbers etc and so anything in between too.

V11R runs through its batteries, although rechargeable, but the Mini seems to last ages on one primary and is perfect backup.

So what is the flashlight you carry in your pocket and/or on your keychain? Pocket: NiteCore D10 and on the keychain: Eoslamp SP11-S2
•Is it a AA or AAA or lion? AA and AAA lithium primaries
•Why’d you choose that one? Had a lot of lights over the years, like how easy it is to upgrade the D10, also very durable.
•How long have you been carrying it? Since 2009 for the D10, and the SP11-S2 since 2014.
•How often do you use it? Daily.
•How’s it working for you? Better than I expected.
•How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Not so good and great, the NiteCore anodize is pretty easily abused. The stainless SP11 is no problem, of course.

The D10 is on it’s 3rd emitter upgrade. I just took a NiteCore EX-10 in trade for a Victorinox knife mod. After placing a neutral XML in it and fitting a Eagletac clip, it may become my new pocket light. Time will tell.

I have a Fenix E01 on my keychain. I usually have some other light in my pocket.

Is it a AA or AAA or lion? AAA
Why’d you choose that one? Good experience with Fenix and the batteries last forever.
How long have you been carrying it? 5 or 6 years
How often do you use it? About twice a month
How’s it working for you? Great
How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Wear on the edges but good everywhere else
Do you carry more than one? I usually have a pocket light: Nitecore EC21, Sunwayman M10R, Ti Quark, Microstream, HDS Rotary.

You don’t need an oven to change the color of a flashlight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkNAweVtWRM

That was quick!

My EDC is a Fenix LD-01 in stainless.

Is it a AA or AAA or lion? AAA
Why’d you choose that one? I liked everything about it.
How long have you been carrying it? About 2 or 3 years.
How often do you use it? Maybe 3 or 4 times per week.
How’s it working for you? Like new, as expected.
How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? The stainless developed some ‘patina’ from being in my pocket with car keys, coins, screws, etcetera, and being dropped and used. The patina hasn’t changed at all in years. Still a good-looking unit. Looks like new minus some gloss.

… and besides. Not many are aware of this, but the stainless version stores some emergency snob appeal under the tailcap. Comes in handy.

Fenix E01

  • Is it a AA or AAA or lion?
    AAA
  • Why’d you choose that one?
Fantastic efficiency, tiny, has a flat plane on both sides of the body making it easy to bite when I’ve got both hands busy.
  • How long have you been carrying it?
    >5 years
  • How often do you use it?
    Daily
  • How’s it working for you?
Threads need lubing, but otherwise fine.
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish?
    Some minor paint chips.
  • Do you carry more than one?
Occasionally a Fenix L0D if I need more lumens.

My Fenix E05 arrived yesterday. Popped in an Eneloop AAA and put it on the keychain.

Happy camper

FandyFire S1-1

-AAA (Energizer Ultimate Lithium 1.5V)

-Cheap and tiny single mode twisty.

-About a year so far.

-Several times a week.

-OK,it is tight to twist though.

-It has some scratches due to contact with concrete.

-Yes…a smartphone with flashlight application…

This is my work EDC.Tiny XP-C flashlight with nice ratio of flood and throw.Fits in the side pocket of Leatherman holster.Too bright for close range work indoors, few modes would be nice.Glass lens, plastic reflector and nice anodizing.

Is it a AA or AAA or lion?
Preon 2 Ti in a shirt pocket & Maglite LED Solitaire in a pants pocket, constantly, both with lithium AAA primaries. Larger ‘coat pocket’ lights at night outdoors.

Why’d you choose that one?
Size, weight, adequate performance & reliability.

How long have you been carrying it?
2 years +

How often do you use it?
Preon 2 daily multiple times, Maglite rarely.

How’s it working for you?
Perfectly. I’m so fond of the Preon 2 that I bought a spare, ‘just in case’.

How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish?
Preon 2 shows no wear, Maglite shows heavy wear.

Do you carry more than one?
Yes, as above.

If you are referring to being able to use a 10440 "under the tail cap", then I get it.

I appreciate all the replies to the thread. It has really been an education, and fun looking up all the lights mentioned. I see several peanut lighters in the keychain pics as well. Got a good deal on 4 of them for $11.99 off Ebay (I see they went up to $13.99). Now I see them even cheaper, around like $2.49 or so. I replaced the little O-ring with a thicker version. I’m keeping track of how long it goes before having to refuel the peanut lighter and my Zippo lighter with ranger band. I don’t smoke but like having a lighter in case I need fire.

Got a test thread going here.

So far I’m on day 23 without having to refill either.

Really liking the Fenix E05.

So what is the flashlight you carry in your pocket and/or on your keychain?

keychain: Jetbeam Mini-1
Pocket: Manker T01, Utorch UT01

  • Is it a AA or AAA or lion? Mini-1: 10180 Li-Ion T01: IMR14500 UT01: 14500
  • Why’d you choose that one? Mini-1: Tons of light in a very small, rechargeable package (130Lm on max). T01: Compact thrower, nice UI w/ good modes. UT01: Compact flooder, common UI with T01. Both can also run AA.
  • How long have you been carrying it? Mini-1: 9 months. T01: 6 months UT01: 6 weeks.
  • How often do you use it? Mini-1: Rarely. Only when occasion prohibits the others. T01: Occasionally. Few times a month. UT01: Every work day.
  • How’s it working for you? Great, Happy with what I carry and how I carry it. Rarely need to go to my pack for a big light.
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Mini-1 is SS, very little wear. Others are in separate pockets, so they don’t get banged up. I don’t really care, just want to know exactly where they are.
  • Do you carry more than one? Yes. Keychain, pocket thrower, pocket flooder

Soon the Mini-1 will be replaced by a Mini-1 Ti. Freeme’s got a killer deal that expires soon. I’m upgrading because the Mini-1 Ti has a 2 way clip that I can use with a ballcap for an impromptu headlamp.

Oh, have a Maratac TFP AAA on my placket of my shirt. Makes for a nice hands free light, personal flood. Not very tactical.

Nice poll. A lot of interesting answers.
