A complete restoration of a 1950's "propane" lantern.

I found this lantern last year. It was badly rusted, paint faded & peeled, and the gas jet plugged solid.
After some research i learn that these were one of the first commercially available “portable” propane Camping lanterns.
This particular unit is dated 1955, designated Model # TX-700. I found it quite interesting and unique with the Slanted-design of the propane tank base.
I dissembled it completely, did some light sandblasting, lots of cleaning, cleaned out the gas parts, changed rotten & dried up O-rings, re-painted it, and custom printed the new moisture resistant labels myself (from close-up images i found on the internet of this lantern model. Now the lantern works great.

- I also found the matching TX-500 single burner stove which i restored after. )

But for now here are photos of before and after of this unique lantern.

Before:

After!

I’ve never seen a Bernz O Matic lantern before, it sure looks cool.

These were only built for a few years, and are somewhat rare to find.

Too big for my taste, but what a restoration you did there especially the sticker.

BRAVO! Great resto job on that shiney looking bugger! Was that red paint Rustolium?

That is one sweet looking light. A good example of they dont build them like that anymore. Well done and thanks for showing us.

Great restoration! A picture/small video of it burning would be great too?

yep, indeed it was Rusoleum.

I will get lots of photos of them all running (and maybe videos) when the weather warms up.

These restorations are great! They look as good as new. Looking forward to pics of them running.

Seing this old decrepit lantern brought back to shining new is very satifying.

BTW, i don’t know for gas, but kerosene lanterns have a 0.081 lumens/watt efficacy.

That’s a sweet restore!!!

Great work!

Seems to be a very rare lantern. Nice!
