- The Special travelling " BLF Flashlight" idea -

I love the idea! I have a few constant output flashlights that I want to send around sometime to 'streamline' people's integrating spheres/pipes, but this has a way more romantic purpose :-) . It would be wonderful if the light has some unique features so that friends automatically ask about what light it is.

I saw this done over at CPF. It seemed to work pretty well. Only issue seemed to remind people time was up and they need to ship it. Of course you have to have a person willing or capable of shipping it to another country when that time comes. I guess I am trying to say, you dont want it to zig zag around the world. If its in China, it needs to finish it China journey first? Then move on to another country not to return to China until one cycle is complete?? Dig what I am trying to say?

Cool idea. I would be in. USA shipper here only!

I think it would be cool to watch the BLF Traveling Light make its journey around the world. I don’t think I can commit to the rules right now, but maybe later on, I’ll jump in.

I like the idea!

But it should really be a one-of-a-kind flashlight, that is easily recognizable..

not one that can be found everywhere in the world like a C8 (to keep it unique).

And keeping it lightweight is also a good idea!

How about batteries? probably not a good idea.

You could implement Djozz`s idea, for people who have a lightbox! (but then the battery will be of importance as well I think).

Should run on AA or 14500? It would be interesting to compare shipping costs and times.

Send it to me .

I will wrap it in paracord , write a limerick about it , and give it a haircut .

Great idea!

Aluminum buzz cut?

Great idea, I’m interested!

Minimum of 500 posts to participate?

1200

Dude, that’s cold… I love it! J)

I like the idea of having it available to be sent to members with a certain minimum posts and activity in the forums.

it would definitely be a smaller model with a small box/case. (C8 or smaller.)

LPF has done this many times with a parts box. We put laser parts and items in the box, sent it to members anf they can take what they want but need to replace it with equal or greater valued parts. Was a huge sucess in the end and fun. Same idea but this is an item that no one can take. Maybe add a parts box with it as well so people can have fun with that and take/add stuff

I would be in, and I like the idea of a parts box to add/take from.

I would like to be in sound like a lot of fun. Not for sure though I would want to do the out of the country shipping as I have not done that before

It all sounds like a good idea, but the international shipping might be a problem for some members. It might get to be very expensive. Even a 1# package is going to be about $20 and that's for snail mail shipping, meaning two weeks+ to get it, if going overseas. Also, many times you can't put the real value on it, due to customs, so it would have to be listed as $5 or so, to keep from people having to pay to pick it up, in some countries.

I'm not downing it, just thinking of the costs over time.

Any of the BLF special editions sounds like the ideal starting point.
I am sure there are enough people travelling intercontinental to cover the expensive postage , there are only 5 continents!
Using the light/cell to calibrate light boxes around the world would add a chapter to the story, only being slightly complicated by the mods done to it on the voyage

Everyone who gets it has to pimp it out in some way or another?
Along with pictures of you and your new temporary illumination friend:

add some glow, trits, colored boot, bezel mods, spring mods, throw in some lens options, case, spare cells, charger, GITD o-rings, dedome, and the like. If you can’t do the mod, then send the parts to the next guy. It could be a Frankenlight when all said and done.

Obviously, It will need its own thread for updates.

Now to crazy, wacky, goofy idea:
I was thinking of a GPS tracker for the box once it leaves?? Don’t freak out, you can pull the fuse whilst in your custody. After your time is up and you are done fondling the light. You would charge the 12 volt battery pack (for the GPS) prior to its departure. Once it departs someone could give daily updates as to the location of the “BLF Package”. Once the Eagle has landed, the new BLF Package Conservator can then pull the GPS fuse.

If needed, I can supply a GPS device, and do the tracking updates. I would need someone to send me some sort of 12 volt battery holder and some cells. I will wire it up and test it out. Then I can ship it to the person who will be shipping the light out first.

Now the only issue with the device I have, I don’t know if the GPS will work out of the USA? So this could be a waste. lol If there is any interest in this idea I can see if it works outside the US
