- The Special travelling " BLF Flashlight" idea -

it would definitely be a smaller model with a small box/case. (C8 or smaller.)

LPF has done this many times with a parts box. We put laser parts and items in the box, sent it to members anf they can take what they want but need to replace it with equal or greater valued parts. Was a huge sucess in the end and fun. Same idea but this is an item that no one can take. Maybe add a parts box with it as well so people can have fun with that and take/add stuff

I would be in, and I like the idea of a parts box to add/take from.

I would like to be in sound like a lot of fun. Not for sure though I would want to do the out of the country shipping as I have not done that before

It all sounds like a good idea, but the international shipping might be a problem for some members. It might get to be very expensive. Even a 1# package is going to be about $20 and that's for snail mail shipping, meaning two weeks+ to get it, if going overseas. Also, many times you can't put the real value on it, due to customs, so it would have to be listed as $5 or so, to keep from people having to pay to pick it up, in some countries.

I'm not downing it, just thinking of the costs over time.

Any of the BLF special editions sounds like the ideal starting point.
I am sure there are enough people travelling intercontinental to cover the expensive postage , there are only 5 continents!
Using the light/cell to calibrate light boxes around the world would add a chapter to the story, only being slightly complicated by the mods done to it on the voyage

Everyone who gets it has to pimp it out in some way or another?
Along with pictures of you and your new temporary illumination friend:

add some glow, trits, colored boot, bezel mods, spring mods, throw in some lens options, case, spare cells, charger, GITD o-rings, dedome, and the like. If you can’t do the mod, then send the parts to the next guy. It could be a Frankenlight when all said and done.

Obviously, It will need its own thread for updates.

Now to crazy, wacky, goofy idea:
I was thinking of a GPS tracker for the box once it leaves?? Don’t freak out, you can pull the fuse whilst in your custody. After your time is up and you are done fondling the light. You would charge the 12 volt battery pack (for the GPS) prior to its departure. Once it departs someone could give daily updates as to the location of the “BLF Package”. Once the Eagle has landed, the new BLF Package Conservator can then pull the GPS fuse.

If needed, I can supply a GPS device, and do the tracking updates. I would need someone to send me some sort of 12 volt battery holder and some cells. I will wire it up and test it out. Then I can ship it to the person who will be shipping the light out first.

Now the only issue with the device I have, I don’t know if the GPS will work out of the USA? So this could be a waste. lol If there is any interest in this idea I can see if it works outside the US

This is a great idea especially if it was to go around the world. Pics of local landmarks or work duties for some of the members who use them.
I dont have a problem with the postal costs internationally.
I’m in as long as my post numbers are not too low

it woudl definitely have to be listed as 5 bucks to keep any fees down. Along with being a small light and lightweight compact carry case to keep shipping it around low. shipping it around the US & Canada would not be much, its sending it over seas would cost more.

Uptates to the OP on Light model and more Info.)

I am think that it “must be handed off in person”.

My point being that with folks traveling around business and the like, also sort of a six degrees of seperation kind of thing (maybe a log book with contact info on every one who has had it)?

We could create a seperate thread that says somthing like (BLF kit in SF-bay area,) then who ever has it would be seeing requests to meet in person, and so on, and so on.

Then it would be intreresting to see where it travels to.

Also this would add a personal touch plus shipping costs go to Zero (plus we would know who had it last)

Mull it over, I bet it can be done!

and or maybe send out multiple “starter” hosts and see how they evolve?

folks can only modify one of them and then we can have a beauty pagent at some point (or are lights never finished?)

Maybe ater x time or folks we determine the winners, Most user freindly, Brightest hot spot, widest flood etc etc (the flash light equivilant of miss congeniality). that way all out lights are winners (dont want to crush the hopes of one of our creations do we?

I'll see your 5000, and raise you...

...

nine thousand!

i like the parts box idea!

You have still some posts to post :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, maybe in five years I'll have enough posts to participate in The Special Travelling BLF Flashlight idea. ;)

That includes most of us. :stuck_out_tongue:

I mentioned doing a pass around of the contest lights to Dale in order to share some of the more involved DIY mods. I don’t think a salad bowl will be inexpensive to ship though. The 50 cal and Coke can might be.

An idea for spreading the postage costs, whoever passes the light on personally puts a small amount, say $1 or its equevalent, into the box to help the next person that has to pay postage, when this builds up enough it would help with international costs.

Cheers David
