Applause for the two main assistants as they really pushed me to my limit like I was a dog.

All pictures with mouse overs will have the MTG-2 mouse out with the XHP70 as the mouse over.

Firstly will be zoomed out and secondly zoomed in. The zoomed out and zoomed in appear to be of a different brightness . I can only assume its because they are a new picture and not a crop of the original. Almost forgot. The white bucket is the 150M mark.

Now for some long shots though I would not call either of the DST throwers. Keep in mind the shed is reflective and at a distance of 520 meters.

And finally my favorite light the C83.

The DST MTG-2 lives 99% of its life as a lantern so a comparison was deemed necessary. Both lights have a 1/4 unc thread in the tailcap for this purpose. When the pictures were taken the same cup was used on both lights.

To sum up. The F13 XHP looks useless. In all honesty it does have a shadow in the center of the beam which can be annoying. Would I recommend this reflector, no but at the end of the weekend it was the most used light away from camp. It lights everything up within 75 yards with a wall of a really nice tint light. What did surprise me is how much the light heated up on medium as this is what is was mostly used on.

The DST also has a very slight shadow but this is not noticeable as a rule unless your white walling which I try and not do. If anyone can pick the shadow in these pictures they are doing a better job than I. No comments please.

I have plans to downgrade the 9 amp driver in the Monster light sometime to a 6.6 amp Taskled. Maybe I will just try the XPH70 in this light? Did I mention I love the tint?

And what could be better than my other favorite light that no one owns lighting up the sky after a night taking pictures in the bush. Lets hope its batteries dont run out soon.

I was actually most impressed when used in lantern form. That’s waaay cool how it jus ligjts up your entire campsite. Even low is impressive. What cups are you using?
Have you found any creamish color cups for a more neutral tint?

I did mean to take a picture using a blue cup but forgot. Must of been the full moon. The tint from the plastic cup is ok. They have been in this bush place for over 21 years and it occurred to me one day that they may make a good diffuser. They haven't been drunk from since. These also work well with the TN35. Not what the manufacturer had in mind when they designed it one would assume. It beats having the sound of the generator in the back ground using these as a light source and music is supplied via the car.

Nice pics MRsDNF. It looks to me like the xph70 has ‘more lumens’ and only produces more throw because of the ‘more lumens’ (if that makes sense).

Great beamshots! How come your daughter (I guess) stays so calm while her head is being evaporated by the XHP70-DST?

The TN35 is stock. There is night shots of it at the longer range in another thread. The XPH70 in the DST is about 18% up on the MTG-2. Lucky my daughter is not in a close up as you'd think she was pretty old.

I once made the mistake to refer to the woman who came towards us (I got a 300km lift from a very nice gentleman in a BMW) as his mother. She appeared to be his wife. Since then I try to be on the safe side ;-)

Just a bump as there must be a few others out there who have shots of this led along with their thoughts on the reflectors used..

I tried an XHP50 in an OP P60 module. The dark spot in the middle wasn’t terrible, but the whole thing was too floody for my taste and it got too hot too fast (even with all the P60 heatsinking tricks). I disassembled it and am working on moving the ’50 to a light with a larger reflector and better heatsinking. Sorry, no beamshots of the P60, but hopefully I’ll get some of the new build.

For what it is worth in this thread: I made a S8 (my favorite Convoy host now :-) ) with a XHP50 (with a 17DD with zener mod), and the beam is acceptable but not that great. I put an extra spacer between reflector and led to make the led sit deeper below the reflector. Next tweak will be the other way around: bring the led further into the reflector than normal. I think in the end it will be a pretty ok beam, but very floody of course.

White wall @ 5m with flashlight on low, and underexposed to show the brightness drop in the center.

The tree is at 25 meter.

The output was close to 2000 lumen at first but it dropped to about 1000 now, I think I crushed one of the (18350 IMR) batteries, it is bend inwards at the underside :-(

Thanks djozz. The shadow looks a bit like the DST. I'd consider that not to bad and I dont notice the shadow at all outside using the light. The best I could get it with the XPH70 was to have the reflector slightly of the star.

Thanks djozz. The black hole in the center, or the black X of death, will be a challenge, just as the spots in the MT-G2 are. I didn't post photos of the monster light, because it's so bright, you just can't tell anything. It does have artifacts in the beams. I am hoping to be able to do a Maglite, with the LED Mag reflector next month. I think the adjustment of the Mag reflector, by just turning the head in and out, will tell a lot about what can and can't be done with these leds. I know with the MT-G2, the beam can get very clean with the reflector all the way down on the star, but I see that it probably won't be the same with the XHP series. Just like the old P7 leds were. Artifacts were still there, however minor, no matter where the reflector sat.

The star was filed down and screwed to a stick so the bum of the reflector could sit flush with the bottom of the star and moved out for different focusing. I apologize again for the crappy pictures.

Bum of the reflector sitting flush with the bottom of the star. The hot spot is at its smallest and the the odd shadows is more than likely me holding the reflector slightly of square. It really is a crappy beam regardless. The hot spot is bottom left.

With the reflector held about half way up the star the hot spot gets larger and the spill gets smaller.

The bum of the reflector about flush with the top of the star. This is about as good as it gets keeping in mind there is a shadow developing in the middle of the hot spot. Would I use this reflector with the XHP70? Not with the limited and totally unscientific results here. This should be revisted though when more time is available and an even more willing Mrs Moose is available.

While I was at it I tried the standard TK 61 reflector. This picture is with the bum of the reflector held approx 1.6mm from the face of the star as the screws holding the star down and wiring stopped the reflector from sitting lower. It gives you a good idea of how the beam improves though the further away the reflector is moved from the led.
