What bin? M or K?

I just saw that too on DX. That color is so yellow! You can also see the + sign from their picture.

They need to restock the 501B MCE! I'm still waiting for mine.

Probably J bin if it what Cree call warm white, or maybe K if it is what Cree call neutral white.

I was trying to decide between this (in the better uniquefire host) and the cool tint one in the crappy 501 host. Too bad they don't have a neutral to split the difference.

dx stock info really sucks. I guess I'll have to get the warm mc-e, but "warm" cree's are really too yellow (<3000).

To me 5000k down to 4500k is about perfect. But it sits right in between the neutra and cool ranges and it's impossible to get a light reliably binned right there. From the cheap places it all seems to be 7000k almost-blu-ish or the few recent [too] warms.

I’ve been meaning to get a bright 18650 light for some time, I was swaying to something with more throw And I expect these wont be a very bright bin as that is inherently sacrificed on warmer LEDs due to the extra phosphor, but I do like a warm white LED so I’ve ordered one, and figure that now I've ordered batteries and a charger it wont cost much to buy another 18650 light later :)

Ive received mine now. Pleased with it all very subjective but its 'bright', been a floody beam its tricky to compare brightness to my other lights but it hasnt disapointed (this is my first MC-E). It is a lovely lovely warm tint. I have a Fenix L2d Rebel 100 which were known to be a warm batch and has always been warm, but this is definetly a lot warmer, Very similar to a Domestic lightbulb, its not as orange as the Dealextreme picture shows, if anything the beam is a bit creamy.

Naturally it is a flooder, but there is more light in the middle and you still get a good distance on it due to the amount of light its kicking out.

I'd seen people comment about wrapping the pill in foil to increase it heatsinking, so Ive done that. In fact I did the treads on the pill with thermal grease and the coated the foil in thermal grease too.I just wrapped the whole body of the pill to fill the void as it only seemed to make contact at the top and bottom.

My battereis came at 3.78V so thats all Ive tried so far. I'm off to charge them no doubt it will (breifly) brighter on a full charge.

A bit more playing around and I can tell you some more.

Measuring the colour temperature on my DSLR I get it as just shy of 3000k.

measuring the brightness by my test which was to bounce the light off one wall onto another (rather than measuring the beam direct which gives more varied results) it is at least 1 stop, ie twice as bright and my Fenix L2D Rebel Premium 100 rated 175lumens.

As I say its a floodier but that said the beam is stronger in the middle and when shining the fenix on a tree a good distance away (25-50m?) the light on the tree wasnt that much less with the MC-E despite the fact that most the light outputted is flood.

It sometimes looks less bright as it gives the appearance of a bulb lit with a flat battery due to the warm colour, lol. but when you shine it on a close surface the reflection hurts the eyes where the same from the Fenix doesn't.

I thought about the digital imager method of measurement but it was quicker to just get a ebay $20 light meter.

How did you get temp measurement? I was thinking about a simple diffration spectrometer project, but I'll have to get around to that stuff.

on the DSLR on one of the custom white balance settings you can put ith the colour temperature that the image will display at night (so typically you would use this to set the temperature the same as your flash for example), setting that to 3000k gives the torch light as white.
