I have two of the XP2 versions. great simple lights. One i use at work and its tough as nails. (dropped it dozens of times in concrete from various heights and it still works great.
Just received it in the mail this morning. It’s almost as long as my Fenix l1T - a one aa light - however it is a lot smaller in diameter. Nice threads and an o ring on each end.
I measured the tailcap current on a duraloop at 660 ma once it settled down. Don’t know if this is well regulated or not.
Turning the tailcap does not lock out the light but the switch is well protected so it’s unlikely it will go on if left in a pocket. The switch is firm and consistent. The lense is also well protected by the body of the light.
The lens has a bluish tinge when looking at it from an angle - might be indicative of a coating of some kind.

The anodizing is really clean - the tailcap has 2 slots near the edge for a lanyard although there wasn’t one with the light. The clip is very firmly clipped to the light and is about right for clipping to a pocket or similar material. The reflector has a slight orange peel.
So far I’m very impressed by the quality of this light.

The bluish coating on the lens is AR coating. (anti-reflective)
The area was lit by streetlights in most parts but I found the light more than adequate for a walk. It has decent throw but decent spill. Lots of light over about 1/2 hour - did not notice any dimming.
DBSAR - that’s it - anti reflective coating - certainly looks like it to me.

Does the lights tail button have a half push momentary on?
If it does this is a great cheap version of the Streamlight Microstream
10440: someone has tried on his one? NOTE: someonehas fried his XP-1 head, but seems that the XP-2 (since it ’s a 2S config ) tolerate the voltage well and the XP-2 head could be swapped on XP-1 body to be used on 10440
The light has a reverse clicky - It comes on as you release the switch after clicking it to “on”. It will go off if you half press the switch after turning it on.

That’s a neat trick. So for about $17 you can have a xp1 that runs on 10440.
Did that person say how many lumens in high?
I thought this was a one mode only light. Are there two versions out there? Where can I buy the multiple mode version?

For minor gifts I used to give away SK-68s but changed to SK-58s. It might not be as bright, but for a AAA light to give away I might give an unmodified SS-5039. The twisty with knurling all over it I got from KD today is brighter though not as pretty as the SS.
I didn’t open the lights to check it, but I think that both XP-1 and XP-2 have the same driver. You can swap heads between the two light and both will continue to work.
Found an issue with the XP-1. I was working on my car using this light when I noticed when I turned it off after some use it wouldn’t come back on until it had cooled for a moment. Did some research and found the cree xpe r2 led is meant to be used at 3.2V. Which is fine but the rechargeable Rayovac AAA I was using has an output of 1.2V, and not the typical 1.5 a AAA should output.
I changed the battery to a non-rechargeable 1.5V AAA and no more delay after use, to turn back on =)
I also doubled up 2 x AAA for a full 3V output and she burns bright but gets very hot and quick. I’ve had the torch lit while typing this message on a single 1.5 triple AAA and she’s running well. Did a turn off, then back on. Good to go with no problems.
Take away: If you find after 5min of use that when you flash it off, then back on, that it delays to turn back on then —> Check the battery, make sure it’s 1.5V and not a rechargeable 1.2V.
Other then that. I’ve carried the HUGSBY XP-1 for about a month and it’s perfect. Recommend it to all, especially anglers as it fits nicely in a fishing tackle box and is water proof. A on this little power house!
Are you sure it did not cooled while it was opened to change battery?
It should work good on nimh as on alkaline since the driver rises the voltage despite the input being 1.2 or 1.5V. Also when batteries discharge they are far below their nominal voltage whether they are alkaline or nimh.
Nimh should have less internal impedance Btw.

Yes, positive or forward click….they allow you to have momentary on, like a Normally-Opened button instead of being like a switch. The light goes on as you press the button even if it does not “click” and block the light to whatever state it is.
Reverse click instead activate the light or powered it off only when the button is finaly released and the end of the “pressing” movement

Just got my xp-1 in the mail yesterday and was curious about the use of an 10440 as well. This is the only mention of it that I’ve been able to find. Has anyone else tried to use the xp-1 with a 10440? I noticed a vender here (Tinywind) stated it was able to use a 10440 but don’t know how reliable they are.
I would be careful. The drivers in the XP-2 appear to be different to those in the XP-1. I only have the XP-2 but the driver is clearly marked ‘2AA’ which would suggest it’s designed for 2 cells (3v). I don’t know if the driver in the XP-1 is. Others have reported killing an XP-1 by using a 10440.
So i Bought an XP-1 and an XP-2 for 4.50 each. I have a Streamlight Microstream and it is basically the same size but the XP-1 is a bit brighter. Great lights super bright. I tried them both with 10440, 2 full cycles, and worked fine.
I liked them so much i wanted to buy some for some friends so I bought a 5 pack of xp-1. These were from a different dealer.
The LEDs in these ones were different color from the first ones I bought. The first 2 i got were A white/bluish Light. The others are a much warmer oranish/yellow. they both are the same brightness so that is not an issue. I don’t mind either one, but there is a noticeable difference side by side.
So they must pump out different things at different times. So if your dead set about a certain color of light this inconsistency might not be for u.
Other than that i would totally buy this light.
Sidenote: what the hell is “Hugsby” anyway. Did some chinese factory just make 20million of these and spread them thru out china
