Uniquefire UF-1405 - A worthy zoomy?

sorry for a question that has probably been already answered, but what is the best driver option for this light with a XM-L2 ? The higher the amps the better

1405: 67mm lens, 2*26650
1406: 50mm lens, 2*18650
1407: 40mm lens, one 18650
1504: 67mm lens, one 26650

And there are more similar model numbers in the Uniquefire website … can’t remember all of them either.

LD-4B driver and MT-G2 led fits in this flashlight Uniquefire UF-1405? Not high the driver? Should be used MT-G2, or XP-G2 recommended?

Yes the LD-4B does fit well in the 1405, and it can run a single MT-G2 or a single XP-G2.

can the stock driver(modded with resistors) run a xp-g2 LED? Or what is the best emitter/driver combination for the ultimate throw ?

The stock driver can already run an XP-G2 without any mod, but the current at the LED is not high, which is around 1.6-1.8A only. You can add resistors to the stock driver to bump up the current but do this in your own risk, as there have been a lot of cases that the stock driver failed at high current (including mine). The 1405 stock driver is just a lousy driver to say the least.

For the ultimate throw combination you can use dedomed XP-G2 or XP-E2, but the XP-E2 will give you a laser-like tiny hotspot. To get the maximum throw out of each emitter, the XP-G2 should be driven at 4.2A or a bit higher than that and the XP-E2 should be driven at around 2.4A.

Does it need mentioning that the leds need to be on a copper DTP board?

There is no any high current capable buck driver that available in 17mm diameter currently (and unfortunately), even the LD-4B from IOS cannot be boosted higher than 4A or it will behave strangely on the mode changing, and the driver will get overheated very fast. Been there, done that. Members wight and ohaya have done some high current test with the LD-4B (or LD-40) before and both of them did not get any optimistic result either.

Your best bet is to use a 17mm linear driver like the popular Nanjg 105C driver, add more 7135 chips on it for higher current but you can only run your light with a single 18650 in the future. It will still work quite well and the Nanjg 105C normally have more mode groups to choose for. However if this is the way to go, it would be better to order the “shorty” version which is the 1504 in my opinion.

how about wiring 2x18650 cells in a parallel? since the tube is designed for 26650 cells, there is enough room to wire them in a parallel right? Making a “battery tray” (from a spacer like those that come with flashlights that can be run on either 18650 or 2650 cells http://www.dx.com/p/plastic-26650-to-18650-battery-holders-white-2-pcs-186751#.VPyO0lPF9Hg ) should not be very difficult. Do these drivers have a low voltage cut-off?

My 7135 driver has low light warning(light drops at 5% i think) but it does not cut off. Maybe with costum firmware it has low voltage cut off. Yes that could be easily done but it will not be practical. Since I am hunter I really don't get why more manufacturers are not making similar 2x18650 flashlights like one below

But such design should also be good for regular flashaholic - you can add pistol grip below and fry everybody at 450 kcd for a least 40 minutes

Yeah I think it is possible and I have thought about this before, but I personally prefer to run it with two 18650 in series so I ended up using LD-4B with another resistor added - And again I don’t recommend anyone boosting the current of the LD-4B until too high.

As for the low voltage cut-off, it depends on the firmware flashed on each individual Nanjg 105C. For example most Nanjg 105C will only give you low voltage warning by dropping the output to low mode and flashing slowly, whereas the Qlite variant will cut off the power eventually. It really depends on the firmware itself, and you can make your own alteration if you can flash these Nanjg 105C drivers. Beside that the low voltage warning/cut-off occurring at 2.8V is just too low IMO, it is not good to have your 18650 discharged until that low of a voltage as it can damage your battery.

Well maybe no problem if Panasonic 18650 battery are used (discharge at 2,5V) :) ?

And i saw a HKJ test yesterday of the Keepower IMR18650 2500mAh (the same as the LG ICR18650HE2) thats rated for discharging down to 2.0v :open_mouth:

Interesting... Who will invent some kind of parallel tubes fur upcoming single cell UF version so we can use 2x cell in parallel? In that case I would also rise number of 7135 chips.

Or maybe some of you guys knows where such aluminum 2x parallel 18650 boxes can be bought?

There are lot of plastic ones on net but I did not managed to find aluminum.

Maybe you can use a powerbank? There are plenty to chose from, and many of them are aluminum and some of them can be opened easily.
