who is buying me a XP-E2 Torch led? Update: DBCstm did, test is in post#81

Yep, I’m definitely in for 2. (yes, I know, only 2)

I have 4 in the gas.

We’ll see.

Looking forward to the results!

Did you do any preliminary testing on color and tint?

What were these binned?

Gas? Blasphemy.

Correct me if I’m wrong. I just looked at the Cree Product Characterization tool a little while ago. It has specs for the various emitters and there are three columns so that you can compare multiple emitters to each other directly. I chose: XP-G2, XP-E2, and XP-E2 Torch to compare. I see that the XP-E2 Torch is rated for higher amperage than XP-E2. But, other than that, the performance is not as good as the XP-E2, and not even close to XP-G2 when you measure in lumens-per-watt. The XP-E2 Torch also has a significantly higher Vf than either of the others. Really, what is the draw here? :~

Edit: I should say, total lumens output is higher than XP-E2 because of the higher Vf and being rated for higher amperage. But, really, is the XP-E2 that much smaller than XP-G2? Because, the lumens-per-square-mm would be the only advantage I can think of that this thing might have.

OMG! These things are TINY!

About an hour in the gas, I pulled em out and dome was sitting top but easily lifted right off. About to mount em on 10mm SinkPAD’s….

Maybe a touch early on the de-gasing?
Looks to me like you lost a bit of corner phosphor on each dome, not enough to notice in a reflector light but maybe visible in an aspheric.

I thought you weren't using gas anymore.

The bond wires are on the corners, not missing any phosphor.

I was referring to these little patches of yellow stuck to the domes. Seems it’s a bit of phosphor coming loose from around the bond wires maybe?

You are clearly not used to the xpe size :-)

@David: this emitter is not about efficiency, it is about light per die surface area. And that should be ~20% more, compared to XP-E2, as I understand.

(still in for 10 of those..)

Dale, you definitely lost some phosphor there.

I got mine Wednesday but still haven't had a chance to test them. I need to get some other stuff out of the way first. I'm awaiting your results as will djozz.

I can not wait for these to be in torches. I would pay to uave one put in my a60.

Yeah, I looked at 100% and there is some phosphor on the dome, from the corner right at the bond wires. Looking at the emitters I can’t see any missing, but it’s there on the domes.

OK. I am building an XP-E2 Quad in an Eagle Eye X6. I have it running, but not assembled. A Sanyo UR18650FJ rested at 4.19V will give the quad a little over 5A direct wired, no driver. An LG HE-2 give over 10A and it’s too much. They change tint and output starts dropping. They are 10mm SinkPAD’s, on almost 10mm x 31.7mm of copper sink. Still missing the copper sinks I ordered from Nitro, that will let me complete this and give me that extra .30” of sink. The quad optic is not the usual 24mm Carclo, but a 34mm Ledil with an 11º beam.

This is holding the optic on the head of the light, and holding the wires onto a Sanyo cell. I had to change camera setting for the close proximity and light colored brick wall, and yes it’s daylight outside but the room is fairly dark with those blinds closed. Decent idea how the beam profile works though, de-domed under this Angie optic.

I measured 42.25Kcd with this set-up.

What do you think of the tint dedomed?

De-doming gives it, through this optic anyway, a nice near white tint, not anywhere near the blue/white I was expecting to see. I didn’t fire up on with the dome on to see how it acted, already had this little project going and was anxious…too anxious to let the 4 of em sit in the gas longer. lol

A Panasonic PD at 4.18V rested gives 7.34A to the 4 and they do good with it, hold output and don’t dim down like with the LG cell. Good stuff right there! 2900mAh is a great choice for a Quad.

I don’t have the sink that goes under this copper stack, so I didn’t want to drill holes just yet. So I surface wired em to see how they acted. No board with traces here, just a bunch of 22 ga wires everywhere! lol

I’ll run 20ga wires up to the surface then make it like a hub and radiate out with the emitter wires when I build it. I should have thought out the star placement a little better, but oh well.

This Ledil Angie Spot Quad works better than I’d even hoped for. Tight with little spill, gonna be a very nice X6. Better than a single emitter? Probably not. Better at killing the cell, yep!

With the 4 that I already used, I have one left after accounting for those spoken for. Depends on if those are ordered in Europe for the European interests.

I have

MRsDNF for 6
the for 10
nitroz for 5

These are paid for and I’ll be shipping them tomorrow morning. So with my 4 that’s 25 of the 50 accounted for and gone.

Seben, djozz and Hestbech, y’all account for 24…. do y’all want to go ahead and have those filled in Europe or have me ship them from Texas?

I’ll take the last one

I'm still in for four :-)

But im not sure what this mean:

"and have those filled in Europe"

This refers to seben's offer to order them as well, but we're not at 40 yet. But since you have them Dale, I would not mind a few, six was my original idea, but if you are stuck with them, 10 is fine too. Could you give me the cost (+shipping in a plain envelope without tracking)?
