who is buying me a XP-E2 Torch led? Update: DBCstm did, test is in post#81

You are clearly not used to the xpe size :-)

@David: this emitter is not about efficiency, it is about light per die surface area. And that should be ~20% more, compared to XP-E2, as I understand.

(still in for 10 of those..)

Dale, you definitely lost some phosphor there.

I got mine Wednesday but still haven't had a chance to test them. I need to get some other stuff out of the way first. I'm awaiting your results as will djozz.

I can not wait for these to be in torches. I would pay to uave one put in my a60.

Yeah, I looked at 100% and there is some phosphor on the dome, from the corner right at the bond wires. Looking at the emitters I can’t see any missing, but it’s there on the domes.

OK. I am building an XP-E2 Quad in an Eagle Eye X6. I have it running, but not assembled. A Sanyo UR18650FJ rested at 4.19V will give the quad a little over 5A direct wired, no driver. An LG HE-2 give over 10A and it’s too much. They change tint and output starts dropping. They are 10mm SinkPAD’s, on almost 10mm x 31.7mm of copper sink. Still missing the copper sinks I ordered from Nitro, that will let me complete this and give me that extra .30” of sink. The quad optic is not the usual 24mm Carclo, but a 34mm Ledil with an 11º beam.

This is holding the optic on the head of the light, and holding the wires onto a Sanyo cell. I had to change camera setting for the close proximity and light colored brick wall, and yes it’s daylight outside but the room is fairly dark with those blinds closed. Decent idea how the beam profile works though, de-domed under this Angie optic.

I measured 42.25Kcd with this set-up.

What do you think of the tint dedomed?

De-doming gives it, through this optic anyway, a nice near white tint, not anywhere near the blue/white I was expecting to see. I didn’t fire up on with the dome on to see how it acted, already had this little project going and was anxious…too anxious to let the 4 of em sit in the gas longer. lol

A Panasonic PD at 4.18V rested gives 7.34A to the 4 and they do good with it, hold output and don’t dim down like with the LG cell. Good stuff right there! 2900mAh is a great choice for a Quad.

I don’t have the sink that goes under this copper stack, so I didn’t want to drill holes just yet. So I surface wired em to see how they acted. No board with traces here, just a bunch of 22 ga wires everywhere! lol

I’ll run 20ga wires up to the surface then make it like a hub and radiate out with the emitter wires when I build it. I should have thought out the star placement a little better, but oh well.

This Ledil Angie Spot Quad works better than I’d even hoped for. Tight with little spill, gonna be a very nice X6. Better than a single emitter? Probably not. Better at killing the cell, yep!

With the 4 that I already used, I have one left after accounting for those spoken for. Depends on if those are ordered in Europe for the European interests.

I have

MRsDNF for 6
the for 10
nitroz for 5

These are paid for and I’ll be shipping them tomorrow morning. So with my 4 that’s 25 of the 50 accounted for and gone.

Seben, djozz and Hestbech, y’all account for 24…. do y’all want to go ahead and have those filled in Europe or have me ship them from Texas?

I’ll take the last one

I'm still in for four :-)

But im not sure what this mean:

"and have those filled in Europe"

This refers to seben's offer to order them as well, but we're not at 40 yet. But since you have them Dale, I would not mind a few, six was my original idea, but if you are stuck with them, 10 is fine too. Could you give me the cost (+shipping in a plain envelope without tracking)?

what will be the shipping cost to EU and what the price of each led ?

I can send you 6 djozz and that will free up 4 for another member.

The cost was $1.72 apiece, I will be checking on (and sending out some) small bubble envelopes at the Post Office today. It looks like that will be between $2 and $4. I’ll be sending some to the in Finland so that will give me an idea of the package cost and shipping. The ones going to the land down under are getting a free ride along with something else. lol

Thanks djozz! Some English phrases still does not compute in my danish grey matter :-)

If shipping is between $2 and $4 I would still like four -if you still got some

I had a fine education in slang because I lived with in one house for half a year with two irish guys (one catholic from Dublin, one protestant from Belfast, true story!), with a good amount of guessing from my side the communication went along fine. Works for Irish and works for Texans just as well

LOL! Sounds like an explosive clash of religion and accents :-)

I once took a 3d animation class in Denmark. But most the teachers were foreigners. German, French, American (Texas) and Finland.

One of the danish students of the course once lived in Ireland for 2 years. His English accent was HILARIOUS!

Imagine English language with a thick danish accent - while trying to sound Irish. For some reason he thought a lot of cursing made him sound more Irish :-D

He had a lot of arguments with the teacher from Texas. Those were sooooooo fun to observe!!!

Really bad english with thick danish accent :-)

oh oh oh. And we had a danish teacher (a class on how to do clay modelling) who had to speak English because of the mixed student nationalities.

His wife was nude posing for our clay modelling. And the teacher kept saying to one of the french students that her claymodel had to be more filthy. It was sooooo weird, innapropriate - and fun.

What he actually meant was voluminous. In Danish voluminous is fyldig - and he thought fyldig translated into filthy

- Sorry for the off topic

It was late last night, but I dedomed an XP-E2 torch and stuck it in a cheap zoomie light (sorry, no crash testing yet).
I went conservative and ran it at only 3A to get a feel for things. The tint dedomed isn't bad and while it was too late to measure it, it does seem like it puts out more lumens than any other XP-E2 I've seen. I will get some OTF measurements, then it's time to see how high it will go before it pops.

I too found the de-domed tint to be pretty decent.

I leave the testing to you guys that are better equipped to do so. I could blow em up all right, but probably wouldn’t have much pertinent data to go with the pile of little smokies.

Once again I feel the pain of being the last (of the first, I admit ) to get my hands on a promising new led (3A and still improving output sounds like a killer, Richard!).

I will tell the family that we will move to the US before the next led comes on the market.

Well djozz, you have some heading at you… might be on the back of a mule though, don’t know. lol

They’re coming, anyway.

FWIW I just measured 323 lumens OTF of my cheap plastic lens zoomie flashlight with the dedomed XP-E2 torch @ 3A. Not sure that is worth much because I am probably getting some significant losses.

I might see where it pops, but I think I will let djozz do the true crash testing.
