I want to purchase a FireFox FF4 60 WATT HID. Need help please?

i sent you a PM with the “correct” prices

This was my favourite light before I finally sold it. Definitely a good choice, just make sure you use some good 18650s! Reasonable flood and powerful throw makes it a very useful light for large areas.

I frequent a 15 acre horse farm and with lots of open flat land its hard for my 2D Maglite MTG2 with 104K lux to show properly illuminate past 200 yards. I can see just not make things out as much as I like.

Now the 60WATT variant is it the same bulb?

Wondering if its worth the 5WATT more.

I would prefer to purchase the 60 WATT variant and then purchase the 65WATT bulb to drop-in to test back to back.

Um… does anyone ever advise you that HID takes awhile to reach their full potential power and after that it’s only last about few minutes before it shutdown due to heat?
how about nitecore TM36?.. you can see way past 200 yards

Al those Fenix super throwers with XML2’s even dedomed and pushed at 6A just are not as impressive to me….yeah, you get 400K lux on some or more, but with 1500 OTF lumens in years past I would be impressed. However, now with my MTG2’s at 40~45watts with over 100K lux, its just no contest. Hence; why I gave up on LED’s for now.

Moving my focus to hotwires and HID.

I strongly considered an FF4 and continue to do so. There was some talk about an FF5 with active cooling and other upgrades. If you look over at the other place, there are many complaints about reliability and inherent design flaws/limitations. IMO, its not ready for prime time and still needs a lot of work. Hopefully the FF5 will come to fruition one of these days, or someone builds a reliable similar HID in the same price range and form factor.

I’ll trade your MAG MTG-2 with my 10” HID spotlight if you want

Really!!! My TK61vn V4 is ~ 750Kcd and ~ 1800/2000 lumens, you can’t beat the throw for an LED reflector based light. HID or LED, I do not think you can get a combo of 700Kcd and 5000 Lumens.

My favorite is the TK75vn,~ 3500 lumens and 341Kcd

Or buy or mod a Lightforce 240 Blitz and upgrade the HID to 50w / 80w /100w and a LiPo belt pack, if size is no object.

Ok the Vinh TK61 does a lot of lux but I don’t see 2000 OTF Lumens from it. Maybe 1500 OTF

I knew Alex GT would chime in.
Seriously Big C, order the darn light and pay for extra fast shipping with tracking. You could have a FF4 in your hands in a week and be wearing an ear to ear grin.
Just do it. Stop beating around the bush.
Is it that good?
Yes!

Oh. And most importantly the FF4 in BLF reviews does over 7K OTF Lumens

That’s freaking cool but it’s not a flashlight anymore. Not my style but I bet it does serous Lux

I wouldn’t get too concerned about having an extra bulb for the FF4. Normal life span is 1000-2000 hours depending on how hard you push it. I do not think 1000 hours total burn time at 40 watt setting is unreasonable.
The bulb alignment in the reflector is crucial and this is something you want a highly trained and meticulous type of factory tech/optical assembly expert to tackle.

In other words, no need to be overly concerned about reduced HID bulb longevity.

I have an FF4 too. It does project a very bright, very far and wide beam of glorious light…. more than any multi-emitter light I own (stock and modified).

But…if it’s the only light you will own (and I doubt it is), then it’s an impractical beast to use as it eats batteries like crazy with a 2000-lumen low mode and can fry an egg…

A flashaholic should own a good HID though…it’s a different animal, so to speak.

Go for it

Low mode-24 watts-is about 3000 lumens. Not 2000 lumens.
40 watt mode mode is a generous 5000+ lumens.

And yes, help me convince Big C that it is a wonderful flashlight.
Thanks Tatasol!

Glad that you like yours, It’s a beast if you need it.

Yes, I am aware that it exceeds the factory rating of a 2000-lumen low mode @ 24w, as well as the other modes for that matter, as tested by RDfronty, if I remember right.

Thanks for the concern.

As a former owner of this light, the 60W version, it was great, but has some serious issues;

1. Lots of issues with the battery carrier for many people. I had to send mine back for repair.

2. You can only enter turbo ONCE after which you must turn the light off in order to enter it again.

3. In a warm environment even the low mode will get too hot.

4. Eats batteries fast.

5. Once you do a turbo run, you will need to allow it to cool down.

6. If the light gets HOT, you will want to turn it off, preferably take batteries out, and it will actually get hotter before it cools off, so it's out of commission for ~10 minutes or so.

7. Like all HIDs it needs to warm up.

Don't get me wrong, I like it, and I certainly don't regret buying one, but having had it, I can't help but to think LED lights are superior in most applications.

If an FF5 with active cooling, and carrying 8 batteries instead of 4 came out, I would grab one, but until then the FF4 just isn't practical to me.

As an alternative, I very strongly suggest getting an Acebeam X60, dedomed, and with a current bump. You'll get ~6000 lumens from it, and ~500kcd.

A modded RC40 would also work, but the price tag would be steeper, and output not quite as high.

Wow! That is a lot of negatives! I learned more about HID lights by reading your post and others.

I would NOT even consider one just on these THREE points alone!
