Review: XinTD X3 (3S AA / 26650)

How heavy is this flashlight compared with HD2010? And what kind of button response does it offer?

It's a Qlite driver in the version sold by IOS, so it's the same as any other Qlite. That's to say it's pretty good. The one quirk is that it requires a quick double click to get that first mode change, and then it's a normal single press for the rest of the mode changes. I think this is to prevent accidental mode changes.

The button feels fine to me.

Edited question above: How [heavy] is this light in comparison to HD2010?

The weight is reasonably easy to look up on the web…
JohnnyMac’s review tells me the HD2010 is 341 grams.
Intl-Outdoor tells me the X3 has a shipping weight of 350g (including all parts and extras, I assume), while fasttech says it’s 324 grams (probably the light + AA carrier), and banggood says 305 grams (probably just the light).

The reason the first mode change requires a double tap is because of the way the mode memory works. It uses on-time instead of off-time. Basically, after the light has been on for ~2 seconds or so, it will remember the mode for the next time. Otherwise, it will advance to the next mode. It doesn’t matter how long the light is off.

The algorithm is something like this:

  1. Light turns on when clicked, and immediately enters whatever mode it remembered from last time. It immediately sets the “power on mode” value to the next mode.
  2. If the light stays on for a while, then after 2 seconds or so it sets the “power on mode” value to the current mode instead of the next one.
  3. The light turns off when you click its button again.
  4. Repeat ad nauseam.

So, advancing to the next mode (or not) with a half-click depends on whether it has been on for more than a couple seconds.

Nice. And I just ordered it before reading this, but hey, sounds good. The XINTD C8s had me waiting for 8 seconds after turn-on before remembering the mode, so this is much better. I look forward to it very much!

I don’t know how long the actual on-time number is, but on every similar light I’ve tried, a couple seconds has seemed to be enough.

Aren’t those shots worthless without other flashlights for reference? 30s is an insane exposure time and will not be representative of what the human eye will “see.”

edit: sorry, didn’t mean to offend you

There is another flashlight for reference. Thanks for suggesting that I wasted hours of time on a review of a flashlight I paid full price for though.

It's not meant to be representative of what the eye will see, and I did not indicate as much. It is meant to compare against those other flashlights.

I'm not going to take pictures that are representative of what the eye will see, and probably never will because it's useless. What I see and what another person sees can be different. What I see one day and what I see another day will be different. Our eyes are not calibrated, and how well they work is based on many variables that change over time.

The only purpose of the camera settings is so that you can compare my shots against each other. Because I use the same settings, you can compare the XinTD X3 against the Xeno e03 and Solarstorm K2 I took beam shots of in the Solarstorm K2 review.

lefteye did the KD 50mm multicoated glass lens ever reach you? Does it fit?

what’s the best 26650 for the xintd/convoy x3?

Simon said to get king kongs…

He was current a bit wishy washy on whether the newest x3 will take protected cells. He said max length is 69.5. Protected kk are 69.75. But other protected 26650s are shorter. But they are usually ultrafire, trustfire, etc.

I suppose just go for the king kongs?

As long as I don’t over discharge them, they should be fine, right?

I mean it’s not like my nitecore i4 is gonna hurt a 4000+mah battery with 750ma max current, eh?

Robby

Anyone had trouble with these? I just got one and it is really under driven. I have tried several batteries 26650/18650 and the most I can get is 2 amps at the tail. I’m wondering if maybe there is just a bad batch of drivers or the the drivers are different now.

lol

What do I do to remove the rattle on my xintd when using 26650? theres a space between the inside of the tube and the battery. I already put the orange o-ring but it still rattles.
Thanks

2 bigger O-Rings on the battery.
:stuck_out_tongue:

I use two 2.5mm 26/31mm O-Rings and it works fine.

I need a coated lens for this flashlight, it deserves it.

Cardboard sleeve?

I used piece of plastic jam bucket :D

thanks ill take note of that.

Don’t have one nearby at the moment but I thought they already had AR len’s.

The X3 from Intl-outdoor has a coated lens, other vendors sold it with common glass lenses as far as I know. KD sells a 50mm lens that should fit but it’s pretty expensive(5:money_mouth_face:.
