Illustrations are at the page this is quoted from, if you’re not sure what exactly to do to check your Nitecore charger.

I own an I4 from several years ago — bought from DinoDirect in 2012
mentioned at 19.79$ shipped - Sysmax Nitecore Intellicharge i4 V2
it fails the magnet test. Hm. Much older model

I emailed Nitecore today since I just found this test page to ask, though it’s performed fine.
I’m guessing it’s an earlier model but not the earliest and that this test is for models made as of late 2014 when they put the method online.

Mine has: — yellow label “Made in China by SYSMAX Ind.” and with SYSMAX Ind and 2051130410076 engraved on the back of the case.
It’s the one that has bays 1 and 3, 2 and 4 paired — the later model differs.
Haven’t taken it apart yet to look at the innards.

does this include the Nitecorn chargers

Get your authentic Nitecorn chargers from Banggood!

Damn! Me too. I’ll need to start a new thread “DD selling fake chargers ……”

Mine , bought from DD , too .
Any chance we can get refunds ?

I don’t know why it took me til yesterday to find Nitecore’s page describing fakes and the magnet test.
I did email them at the address they provide where they ask people to contact them about possible fake chargers:

EDIT — not sure which charger they picture here, anyone recognize the innards?

(And yes, they really did misspell their own company’s name, but the picture shows the capacitors labeled “Nitecore”

not “Niteocre”)

And I don’t know — yet — whether that test is only applicable to chargers they made recently (like late in 2014 when they published that page).

But I’m curious, now that they have published the magnet test — and the pictures showing where to find the Nitecore name on parts inside their chargers.

What ya got and when did ya got it from where?

Looks like those identification for newer product

saw this Nitecore charger teardown

what i can identify, they use chong-x capacitor

> magnet test … labeled parts

As I read the page, their description applies to all of their chargers (at least, the ones currently being made).

No reply yet from Nitecore on the one I got in 2012. No problems with it, so this is curiosity at this point.

I see DinoDirect still sells the Nitecore I4. They have a picture (as of today) of the innards, but I can’t tell whether it’s what Nitecore says to look for!

I have an I2 from 2013 that fails the magnet test but from everything I can see and test it’s working fine. It charges my lithium’s a bit over 4.2v but still well within specs. NiMh’s come off right around 1.5v so it’s basically working fine for them too.

I left a request at DD for comment on the 2012 “Nitecore I4” that fails the magnet test, and asking if the “Nitecore” I4 and D4 chargers they currently offer for sale will pass Nitecore’s magnet test and if looking inside the components are labeled Nitecore as they should be.

They promise a reply within 2 days. We’ll see.

PS, at Nitecore’s site, it looks like they changed something about their chargers in 2014, as their pictures show “2014 NEW VERSION”

so my hunch is still as before — I’d guess the improvements include changing the contacts from steel to copper (and that would mean, I’m guessing, that the new magnet test announced late in 2014 would apply to the current not the older models).

I haven’t heard anyone mention finding a fake 2014 model. Check the package; I don’t know if you can tell old from new ones other than what’s shown in that picture.
If you’ve tested yours — please mention whether or not it’s a 2014 model.

hmmm...

My I4 doesn't have metal sliders.
