deal alerts: @ ebay, all flashlights below $5

To go with the mini C8 you could also get big brother for just $3.67.

It has the old XRE LED (NOT XML as listed) and probably a plastic reflector but is still a cheap host for endless modding possibilities.

Seller has a bucket load of negative feedback though.

Received the one I ordered. Initial impression is pretty good for the price. The light feels solid with threads that are fairly smooth. The anodizing/paint looks cheap and had a little bit of visible flaking right out of the package. The grey color is really shiny. I hope the shine isn't due to lead...

It comes with a cheap generic led that does about 20-30 lumens of cool white light. The tint is surprisingly decent, certainly more neutral than other cheap led's I've had. The mcpcb is actually held down by two screws! The driver is single mode and looks to use a really thin pcb. The switch is very stiff and uncomfortably hard to operate. Could have to do with the rubber boot.

Gotta source a cheap mcpcb for a Nichia 119...

Sounds good  i hope i get mine soon, i want to use a XHP50 in one of them

Does it have a pill/shelf design? And if pill is it hollow? Is the switch modable?

XHP50 in that little thing? You’d better wear gloves.

Won one of these 2AA's for $1.33 just to see what it is. Expecting it to be junk.

I just got mine, it does have a solid shelf on the pill, seems pretty decent. The switch is horrible and small though...

^ this.

I don't think this is a good host for an XHP. The driver is press fitted, and the switch/switch boot is garbage. I haven't disassembled it completely yet, so I haven't seen the other side of the driver or switch assembly.

Oh, the inside of the battery tube is narrower than I've seen in other lights. I have some nimh cells that wouldn't fit.

@Jubeldum, thanks for the LOL

I like it hot & bright :D, my EDC is my Jexree Mini with a XP-L V6 3D & a Efest 10440 running DD, most of the times the battery sags well before it gets to hot, the trick is to really grasp the light with as much skin contact as possible, it is surprising to me still how good heatsink the hand really is

Solid shelf, press fitted driver & screwed down mcpcb sounds good, the bad switch could be a problem, i have a bunch of different omten’s so i hope maybe one could be fitted. I hope it is possible to press out the switch from the boot side to get access to upgrade it.

I have some Windyfire 14500 10A + an XHP50 J2 3E group LED on order that i plan to use.

Whats the size of the mcpcb? And the narrow battery tube sounds a bit worrying, can you measure how wide it is? In worst case & the Windyfire 14500 10A don’t fit maybe it is possible to sand it to make it wider.

Only ships to EEUU :weary:
(1.33$ flashlight)

I measured 15.5mm for the mcpcb and 14.22mm for the battery tube.

Thanks, Nice so with a little sanding the 16mm mcpcb will fit fine

I will check the size of the Windyfire 14500 10A when i get them & report back

any new deals on lights that I need to buy?

I'm not sure if this one has been posted before:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141484198932

It's a $4.79 clone of the Trustfire Mini style light. The diameter was too small for my protected TrustFire/Ultrafire 16340 cells to fit, but CR123A primaries fit very closely. I removed the factory pill/lens/reflector, and sanded down the threads on an empty P60 pill, until it was a close fit into the host. I wrapped the outside of the pill with Kapton tape, and then press-fit it into place, to prevent accidental activation due to the anodizing on the threads wearing. I used a 45-degree Fasttech 20mm TIR, sanded down to fit, and a basic single-mode low-voltage 800mA driver to power a NW XM-L2 emitter from the CR123A primaries.

It works rather well, and transfers heat to the body rather well, given the non-threaded pill. It's not much of a light, and the factory CW XP-E emitter/driver combo aren't very impressive, but it made for a fun little build. It's a very compact ultra-floody light in this configuration.

Thanks keltex78 for the write up

I have had this light in my wish list for a while, and this made it much closer to purchase.

Why did you use a p60 pill? is the stock not usable? And if i would want something similar where do you buy a p60 pill, do i need to buy a p60 host to get one?

Actually a host probably wouldn’t come with it. You can get them many places, including fasttech

Aha! Now i get it, so with some light modification, this light is a p60 host, where all those p60 drop ins can be made to fit.
Thanks pilotdog68

But wouldn’t kapton tape hurt the heatsinking then, i remember something about people using copper or aluminum tape for maximum heatsinking in p60 lights.

“EDIT
Hmm, i just realized that i think he meant that it was only the little brass or copper part of the p60 parts he used + the 20mm Fasttech TIR.”

Mmm idk about that. He said he used the pill, but it doesn’t look like a p60 reflector would fit in there. I’m not sure exactly what keltex did.

Its a twisty, so the kapton tape i assume is to isolate the pill from the body so that it can be turned off. Maybe the original pill was plastic?

You are right, i just wrote this
“EDIT

But you had already replied before i had time to submit.

Yeah, I just used the brass part of the pill. Kapton tape isn't good for heatsinking, but was needed to isolate the pill from the body to keep the light from turning on because of the bad anodization on the threads. The factory pill was aluminum, but the driver was an odd size, and looked like it had been cut with a wire cutter to make it fit. The P60 pill was just handy because it let me use a standard driver. I've already gifted the light so I cant post any pics of it for now. If I get a chance, I'll take a pic and put it up here though...

Ok, now i got the picture, so if i can find away to fit a driver in there, the stock aluminum pill is descent.

I think the ebay listing shows a pic of the driver and you are right, it has a very weird shape to it.
