deal alerts: @ ebay, all flashlights below $5

Aha! Now i get it, so with some light modification, this light is a p60 host, where all those p60 drop ins can be made to fit.
Thanks pilotdog68

But wouldn’t kapton tape hurt the heatsinking then, i remember something about people using copper or aluminum tape for maximum heatsinking in p60 lights.

“EDIT
Hmm, i just realized that i think he meant that it was only the little brass or copper part of the p60 parts he used + the 20mm Fasttech TIR.”

Mmm idk about that. He said he used the pill, but it doesn’t look like a p60 reflector would fit in there. I’m not sure exactly what keltex did.

Its a twisty, so the kapton tape i assume is to isolate the pill from the body so that it can be turned off. Maybe the original pill was plastic?

You are right, i just wrote this

But you had already replied before i had time to submit.

Yeah, I just used the brass part of the pill. Kapton tape isn't good for heatsinking, but was needed to isolate the pill from the body to keep the light from turning on because of the bad anodization on the threads. The factory pill was aluminum, but the driver was an odd size, and looked like it had been cut with a wire cutter to make it fit. The P60 pill was just handy because it let me use a standard driver. I've already gifted the light so I cant post any pics of it for now. If I get a chance, I'll take a pic and put it up here though...

Ok, now i got the picture, so if i can find away to fit a driver in there, the stock aluminum pill is descent.

I think the ebay listing shows a pic of the driver and you are right, it has a very weird shape to it.

I've looked through my stuff, and have already tossed the driver, but I still have the aluminum pill. The pill is for a 16mm driver, and they had an 18mm driver chiseled to fit in the very large gaps cut into the edge of the shallow pill. I wasn't able to fit a low voltage driver with a coil into the factory pill, which is partially why I used the Fastech optic which eliminated the lens, and was shorter than the factory reflector. This freed up enough space for me to use the deeper pill that accepted 16mm pcb and 17mm driver.

Not a zoomie?

EDIT wrong!

… I’m seeing zoomie

In the description: "Features: zoomable".

I got my Mini C8 today, mine had a harsh CW led in it. On eneloop it was extremely weak about as much lumens as a bright moonlight, BUT it takes 10440  so i used a Efest 10440 at about 4v in it and it got much brighter  but still weaker than a hugsby xp-1 on eneloops :frowning:

And the tube is extremely narrow, out of 4 efest 10440 only 1 of them was able to fit without removing any of the stickers on the 10440’s.

It was delivered in a small bubble envelope without any packing, and had some obvious dings in the anodizing from the trip.

Has anyone figured out how to open it? i have tried but failed so far.

I hope i can get it open because it think it can be a interesting 10440 host, with the biggest reflector i have seen on a AAA light.

Some sanding should fix the tight tube, it is has very very thick walls, much thicker than anything i have seen yet, i wonder i it would be possible to fit the next size up battery in there if i drill it out.

Thanks, you always have something that you have turned in to a power house of a light. 8)

I am collecting a quite a few of those xpe’s like you pulled out of here. I have an idea for them too. I am thinking get some these lens LINK in different degrees and hook 10 in series and use a power supply I got from work that is 33v dc and 1a. that should probably be good for around 2000 lumens and use it as outdoor lighting.

I'm getting a good collection of these cheap XP-E type emitters, but this is such a large variation between them, both in tint and in brightness. Some of them are extremely cool, while still being extremely dim. I wonder if some of these are counterfeit, as they perform so poorly. I had attempted to de-dome one of the coolest XP-Es I had salvaged from cheap eBay light but it was still far dimmer than an identically-driven XR-E.

Have a look here and have fun.

Thanks MRsDNF  nice mod on the mini c8

I pressed out the plastic :weary: pill from the driver side, does anyone know if there is an metal pill that fits to buy anywhere, maybe one of those p60 pills, how big are those?

A 1/2 inch copper pipe tube cap fitting works, not a tight fit, but a bit of grinding/sanding to decrease the height, couple holes in the top and it does well enough for an AAA light.

Yeah something like that could work  i will be rummaging through the spare plumbing parts boxes later for a possible match.

I use 1/2 inch copper pipe, and sometimes bend smaller pipe to solder inside to make it closer to solid, or solder discs to the end. For the SS-5039s I have a piece of pipe I straightened and filed to fit, and I cut pills off the end. That is easier than filing after cutting to length. It also works to cut a slot in the pipe and bend it to size, as the slot does not interfere much with heat transfer.
For lower power, it is enough to file a thick star to a close fit in the head.

I have filed pills from # 3 three mode zoomies to fit AA size heads, without taking the LED and driver out.
I may use a pill from a Black Cat.

XTAR WK50, I’ve been winning auctions on these from xtarshop on ebay for $8-10. Great 4-mode driver, no disco, handles 14500’s, op reflector, pop a Nichia in it… perfect.

wk50 has decently spaced modes BUT they have bad PWM

Not on eBay, but AA twistie for $3.5. Used to be $4.8 at FT
