Sanyo UR18650ZT 18650 ?

I have about 40 Sanyo UR18650ZT laptop pulls and have a few questions. They are orange wrapped with violet so I’m fairly certain the are the UR18650ZT’s.
I bought the Heseney/polar charger from fastech to charge them to 4.3V but either the charger is defective or the batteries are. Even if I leave the cells on the charger for several hours after the green light comes on they are only 4.2V.
I just figured that the charger was defective so I ordered the Opus. After test these the capacity was way less than I expected. Around 1800-2200mah after charging to 4.2V.
They were all around 3.8V when pulled so I thought they would all be good cells. They all have fairly low IR according to the opus. My question is would it be safe to charge these to 4.3V on the Opus to try for more capacity or should I just toss them?

You say you are fairly certain about the battery type.

But you’re not exactly positive that these Sanyo

batteries are what you say they are ? Are there any

ID letters and numbers anywhere on them , so you

can clearly verify what model Sanyos without doubt ?

Check the battery wraps very carefully from different

angles with proper lighting and you might find some

identifying letters and #’s.

Nice, big, sharp macro pic would help!

I will attempt to post pics. Sorry in advance as all I have available is an iPhone.

Tried to color with black marker then wipe off to make the letters more Visible.
Letters say Sanyo R1122 under than 027B

Model numbers are usually stamped into the heatshrink on Sanyos .

you can lightly feel the lettering and faintly read them using a light shining at an angle read the lettering running from top to bottom .

it's on every Sanyo cell I have .

faint but it's there

You are right Boaz. Finally figured out how to post pics. I knew that they were Sanyo’s but didn’t want to I’d them based solely off color codes.

Hard to tell from crappy pic but that insulating disk is purple/violet. Also has letters OFDZT3D and under that 087038 printed on the cell under the shrink wrap.

I would discharge one and then charge it to 4.3V if I get satisfactory results then I would use them, you can always build a battery pack for something…

So you agree that these are 4.3V UR18650ZT? They should be around 2600 mah when charged to 4.2v from what I’ve read. It concerns me that they have lower capacity. I assume that they are safe to use. I will run a charge/discharge to 4.3 and see what I come up with. Thank everybody.

Are you reading what's lightly imprinted into the plastic heatshrink ? thats the one you want to know if you're looking for the model number / type

It should have ....18650 in it too ...like ur18650w2 or ur18650A n39a or ur18650sax

lay the cell down with the top facing left and look for lettering /numbers running right to left on the plastic ....NOT under the plastic ..NOT on the cell ..But on the heatshrink itself .

There is nothing else on the heat shrink. Just Sanyo R1122. Nothing about 18650 at all. I based my assumption of model on the orange violet color combination.

These look just like some Sanyo UR18650A batts

that I have. They are 4.2v and 2150/2250 mAh rated.

Quality Sanyo feature:

4 number at the middle of body.

The first number stands for production year

The second and third number stand for production week, Ex.K15A, K stand for year, 15 stand for the 15th week.

it appears that the date codes are on the heatshink too in a 4 digit code

" Also has letters OFDZT3D and under that 087038 printed on the cell under the shrink wrap."

When you say it has the letters ZT on them it makes me believe you may have the newer cells too ..

Sorry I'm not a lot of help since I don't have any idea what kind of laptop pack they came from ..I think I'd go and work out the date codes on them.

Just googled R1122! They could be UR18650FM (charging up to 4.2V) !
Darn Sanyo, you could just print normal label like others do…

I just opened a HP laptop pack (datecode 2009) a couple hours ago. Those are the exact batteries I get. They’re all bad though <1V, just my luck and these will go to the bin, but nevertheless they’re marked UR18650A on the wrapper.

So you don’t see UR18650ZT anywhere on the batteries ?

You’re just using the colors to assume which type of

Sanyo they are ? These batteries are probably UR18650A.

Read his Opus readings on them in his OP.

Correct. I’ve seen a sanyo color code chart but am unable to locate it ATM. And this from the laptop pull thread. Post 59. They came from a similar lenovo think pad pack. BLF Community Battery Pulls Overview Thread (Laptop packs and Tool Packs)

And this review by HKJ

Look closely at the battery wrap color in your 2 links.
They are Orange ! The battery wrap color in your
battery pic is Red ! You might have Sanyo UR18650A
4.2v—2150/2250 mAh batteries. You need to find
the actual model #’s on your batts to be positive
about what you have.

The cells that I have are for sure orange with purple. The pic just looks red. My cells have the same writing on the negative end like the pic in HKJ’s review.
I for sure want to know what model these are before trying to charge past 4.2v.

Here is a color chart in post 16

Yesterday I opened lenovo battery pack, similar cells to this up, red wrapper but light blue ring around + … 6 cells at 0.00V and 3 at about 3.8V :frowning:
Only marked with: LABM2B8, 086862, and L06A!!!
