Aluminium (electrode) battery..

Yep, I saw that. They fail to say what the energy capacity is. Not a good sign. Nor do they give the depth of discharge for the number of cycles they quote.

Yawn.
Guess this was overdue. We haven’t had one of these “amazing new battery technology” announcements in the news for a few months now.
Vapourware.

Its really just the fault of these junk “news” reporting sites.
“New Aluminum Battery Could Recharge Your Phone In Just One Minute !!!11” *
Researchers regularly publish new discoveries to attract more funding and show off good results.

* As long as your phone only needs 100mah @ 2v.

The second link says: 70 mA h g–1 Battery university says specific capacity of lithium ions range from 150-240 Wh/kg. Can anyone convert?

Voltage is 2V so 2x 70= 140mWh/g—> 140000mWh/Kg —>140Wh/kg??

Other sites have mentioned that it is below li-ion energy density.

Certainly glad for each discovery that brings us closer to better batteries. Just annoying the way sites hype it.

aluminum battery in modern aluminum flashlights~
mmmmmmmmmmmm

Equivalent to sticking a galvanized nail and a piece copper pipe in a potato.

70mah/g (actually usable capacity is ~55mah/g if you check pictures in upper links) is for active material only, this is 2-4 times lower than existing li-ion chemistries(check upper picture). And when you include a fact that discharge voltage is almost two times lower than li-ion, you get battery with at least ~4 times lower energy density (maybe 50Wh/kg max).

Also they claim that battery would be cheap, not gonna happen with exotic materials like carbon foam and ionic liquid.
