FS: GITD insulation gaskets XML XPG XPE XPL XHP50 nichia

are they just sticker or they help in centering the led?

In the process now, they seem to glow very brightly for about 1-2 mins,

in total darkness I would say they would glow for a few hours but dimmer, in total darkness it would still be easy to see, same with everything that’s GITD, but testing currently.

Once I have a few ready I will make them available for sale, I’ve tested a few different materials and this is the best one so far

Insulation gaskets, they stop the reflector shorting to the wires but do not centre the led

definitely interested...subbed :)

sounds interesting. subscribed

Interesting, I have made some myself with the gitd sheet from hobbyking.com. This sheet really glows very long and bright, much better than the usual cheap paint or tailcaps.

I made them with a hole punch and/or scissors. Looks really cool after switching the light off  I also have tried to put some foil underneath the semitransparent discs which are available.

I also made some small stickers with a holepunch for offices, and glued them on some lights so that I can find them in the dark.

How do you make the cuts? Do you have a special quadrat puncher?

Hey James great idea! How thick are they? And 26mm would be great too!

I’ve not decided yet, either just the GITD sheet material which will be about 1-1.5mm thick but maybe with a PET insulation gasket over that as well for better durability when the reflector rubs on it, which would bring it up to about 2-3mm, it will still be lower than the Dies substrate though

Not a quadrat puncher but a square punch and a circular one for the outer diameter, not that hard to do yourself but you’d have to buy the tools which have added up to over £25 including the sheet so not a great option of you just want a couple of gaskets! My idea is to make a load and sell them in 5’s or 10’s or whatever for a reasonable price!

I have the glow sheet and a decent small circle punch. Just need to find a square punch. I get my sheets from eBay. Quite costly but very cool stuff.

Can you say MT-G2!

great idea!

Ok, I ‘charged’ the GITD gasket with a direct drive XML2 for about 30 seconds, at 13.40, left it in a dark box and just checked it now at 20:51, very dim but visible, so I think more than 30 seconds of light will give it a decent chance of staying glowing longer, 7hrs11mins glow time isn’t bad of 30 seconds of light!

It is very dim but I could see it in a totally dark room with a pale green glow (bright green at the start) I think the reflector in the light will also make it look a bit brighter.

I’m just waiting on some tools to start making these, currently doing them by hand hense the prototype, the final product will have cleaner cuts etc.

!!

MTG2 is a lot harder due to the centre size, I think the XML2/XPG2 will have to have the PET gasket on top otherwise they are quite flimsy so hard to line up, however, this means they ‘flop’ over the wires better compared to the harder plastic gaskets

I am interested also

I’ve put up the possible prices, I have bought 2 sheets of the material so far for a special offer price, I don’t know how long it will last.

Can you let me know if you are interested so I can see how much material I need to buy!

I am definitely interested for the XM and XP sizes.

I expect you will receive glowing reviews.
This is really a neat idea.

Good one :stuck_out_tongue:

Cool idea! If you plan on doing blue, let me know.

I am planning on doing blue! Just don’t have any blue material yet, it is also more expensive than green
