FS : LED centering rings / positioning / insulating – made to your specs (CLOSED)

I will CNC machine custom LED centering rings, washers, etc., to your specifications. No minimum order QTY but I will be fulfilling orders all at once like once every week or two since programming and machine setup is required every time.

This is mostly a fun experiment to see how efficient I can get my machining processes over time, and to get some experience with fulfilling custom orders in a timely fashion.

Price: $2 USD each for plastic centering rings and washers (unless otherwise noted) + $1 for envelope & stamp shipping. $2 International envelope shipping. Payment via paypal. You will not pay until I have the physical item made and ready to ship. I will PM you with payment info at that time. Metal parts and contact boards will be priced on a per order basis, but they’ll be pretty cheap.

Who wants to chime in with some specs? I will need the led type and all other relevant diameters and their height. Information about the compatible hardware, pictures, and sketches are welcomed but please resize them if they are huge.

Very cool. I think that there may be some serious demand for MT-G2/XHP70 centering rings. I have always carved by hand where needed but it is a big pain.

I need some washers with no centering ring. Just as spacers, but I don't think you can do the thickness.

1st one - 0.395" ID round hole, 0.500" OD round and 0.015" Thick

2nd one - ID cut to fit the hexagon shape of a 20mm Sinkpad star. Cut hexagon, so it fits around the star. 1.200" OD round and 0.050" Thick.

3rd one - 0.500" ID round hole, 0.750" OD round and 0.015" Thick.

I could use about 25 of each.

I can do that thickness. That’s a large order. PM sent with a custom quote.

+1000

I still need some.

Hoop,

I also think that with the XHP70 and MT-G2 leds, you might need to see what you can come up with that would center them on 20mm stars and 26mm stars. I think that most of us have to open up the reflectors to fit, so having pre-made washers where you tell us what the ring OD would be might be good. We would then just be able to open the reflector hole to fit.

One big issue is that the XHP70 stars are only 20mm and with the diameter of the led base, there is not much room at all for a ring, since it's already very close to the solder pads. The same is true with a 20mm MT-G2 star.

Here's some specs and thoughts:

XHP 70 led - The center square cut out would need to be 0.275" and with a 20mm Sinkpad, the best way might be to make the spacer rectangular at 0.350" wide and 0.675" long. That will fit within the solder pads. The thickness of the led base is 0.037", so a 0.040" thick spacer would bring the reflector just a couple thousands from touching the led base.

The MT-G2 led - The center square cut out would need to be 0.365" and with a 20mm Noctigon a rectangular spacer would again be best, with a 0.500" width and a 0.700" length. The thickness of the led base is 0.035" so again, I would go with a 0.040" thickness.

On a 26mm Maxtoch star, there's lots of room for the MT-G2, so a spacer could be made at 0.800" OD and the center square at 0.365".

Those are just flat spacers. From the dimensions, you can see it would be hard to make actual centering rings for them. If you were to make them with rings, then here's some ring dimensions:

XHP 70 - 0.388" ID and 0.420" OD

MT-G2 - 0.498" ID and 0.510" OD

That gives a ring thickness of 0.020" As far as ring height, I would go with something like 0.100" tall and people could sand them down if they wished.

In summary:

XHP 70 on 20mm Sinkpad - A rectangular spacer measuring 0.350" wide and 0.675" long, with a 0.275" center square hole and a ring that was 0.388" ID and 0.420" OD. Of course that own't work, so the ring would have to be made where it was formed only on the long sides that had room for it.

MT-G2 on 20mm Noctigon - A rectangular spacer measuring 0.500" wide and 0.700" long, with a center square hole of 0.365" and a ring that is 0.498" ID ans 0.510" OD. Again, that means the ring would have to be made where it was formed only on the long sides that had room for it.

MT-G2 on 26mm Maxtoch star - A round spacer with an OD of 0.800" and a center square of 0.365", with a ring of 0.498" ID and 0.510" OD.

I would suggest the thickness of all the spacers at 0.040". The reason being that most, or many of our reflectors have flat bases with no space for wires and the 0.040" will at least let 22 ga teflon coated (teflon gives a very thin coating, where silicon its too thick), wires crushed flat, to be soldered on and still clear the 0.040" thick spacer between the reflector and the star.

We would simply drill or bore out the led holes of our reflectors to fit the rings. That might be best, since most of the reflectors are not made for the MT-G2 or the XHP-70.

OK, I'm done.

I’m in for 2 mt-g2 spacers like Old Lumens mentioned.

How about centering rings for Convoy C8 reflector and XP-G2/XP-E2 leds!

Just use the XM ring and let the reflector twist and center the LED.

I am doing exactly that and it sucks balls how precise it is…

Are we talking about the newer smooth C8 reflector? I've had awesome results doing just that. Perfectly centered and super tight hotspot.

Yes, new (shorter C8) SMO reflector.
Dimensions of XP-G2 emitter are 3.45x3.45 so the diagonale is 4.88mm while the side of XM-L2 emitter = size of centering ring sides are 5mm so there is a gap of 0.12mm.

Close enough for government work.

How hard would it be to make them out of GITD material?

As an FYI my circular factory Nitecore MT-G2 spacer is 9.09mm ID 15.52-15.59mm OD x 1.01mm thick OR .3575 / .611 x.04 thick at the centering ring, the inner is thiner (probibly emitter thickness)

The ring is self centering type.

The inside of the reflector is 12.23-12.27mm ID or .48-.4825

+1 on the glow in the dark as an option, can you make a height adjustable centering ring? Or sell ultra thin shims for the final focusing tweak?

Hoop. If I Promise to only get in your way six times a day can l please come around and watch.

Isnt that Fasttech transperant XML to XP converter do the job? Havent played it alot, but i did it once with a XLP emitter….yet, the reflector was OP

Take a look at this post -> Finding centering rings?
the clare one goes right thru the hole.

Old-Lumens, thanks for all the specs. I have modeled them all and will add them to the order queue in post #1 here soon.

Can do but need dimensions provided.

Sure. For the life of me I can’t find my C8’s stock centering ring so I’ll need the specs as far as the od, id, and the thicknesses.

No can do. GITD paint is my suggestion. Get it from GlowInc.

Common paper has a thickness of .003” or so. The shims could be stickers or regular paper. I could have sticker company or printing company die cut these for me but they will probably be .50¢ per shim from what I’ve seen, if I get a couple hundred made. Alternatively, if you determine the optimal thickness you need through testing you could then have me make a centering ring to the exact size you need.
