Test/Review of Amazon Basic AA 2500mAh (Black)

Amazon Basic AA 2500mAh (Black)

Official specifications:

  • Typical capacity: 2500mAh
  • Minimum capacity: 2400 mAh
  • Nominal voltage: 1.2V
  • Life: 500 cycles
  • Low self discharge (LSD), 75% capacity after one year, 65% after 3 years

Maximum temperature raise at different discharge currents: 1A:+1,0°C, 2A:+2,8°C, 3A:+5,2°C, 5A:+10,4°C, 7A:+16,3°C, 10A:+23,1°C
This is the high capacity NiMH cells from Amazon (The black cells does also exist in a lower capacity version).

Very good discharge curves with perfect tracking between the two cells.

Conclusion

The cells has very good performance.

How is the test done and how to read the charts
Compare to other AA/AAA batteries: Alkaline/NiMH/Lithium

I don’t know why but it just looks like an eneloop to me. Only cosmetic changes…

Thanks a lot for testing the Amazon nimhs, I always was curious about these cells.
Discharge voltages look very promising and indeed comparable with eneloops.

I don’t buy them because they cost here about the same as eneloops but maybe there is sometimes a sale of them…

High capacity LSD, Yes, Yes , Yes!

Thanks for the great review again, HKJ.

These are available from 9.00am BST tomorrow morning as one of Amazon’s “deals of the day”. Normal price £9.99, so maybe a few pounds discount. We won’t know price until 9.00am.

Edit (for posterity) - lightning deal price was £7.99 for 4. Sold out quite quickly.

What am I missing here? Call me a nub, but 2600 mah on a 18650 seems to be the norm even though 3400 is out there (I’ve got a few), but an AA?

The difference is voltage so you get less power (watts) from the AA even if it was supplying the same amperage because of the lower cell voltage. ie P = VI the watthour graphs show this part.

Cheers
