Rod911, forget about capacity, it is irrelevant becasue you do not care what capacity can be gained after 3V (most cells are claimed for down to 2.5V). And for any serious flashlight you only care about capacity that is resulted at 5A-7A down to 3.6V, after that all cells are way too weak, to matter what they offer at ultra low voltage.

Take a look at this and see the capacity at 3.6V, you will see how the NCR18650PF are the last option and the nominal 2900mAh is irrelevant for 5A.

Solder will be sanded off in time due to friction.

I'll stick with my original thoughts and get the LG INR18650HG2 cells. Thanks for stating the obvious.

I actually use some 9mm diameter by 1.5mm thick brass piece that is soldered on top of the cell. But I also have a button top model like the Keeppower IMR18650 2500mAh.

That chart seems to indicate that the Samsung 25R is a better choice than the LG HE-2 or Sony VTC5.

In my experience with my dozens of FET driven lights, this is simply not the case. The Sony VTC5 is one of the best cells money can buy, with the LG HE-2 and Efest 35A hot on it’s heels. The 25R is tagging along on their heels. I don’t have fancy testing equipment that makes neat computer charts, but I do have some pretty fancy high drain devices and those tell the real world story. :wink:

Yes, I have all these cells. Wish I had more C5’s but I’ve only got half a dozen of those. I’ve got a dozen or more 25R’s, used in specific lights for their button tops. I’ve got dozens of 35A’s, all in all my favorite cell out of the close to 200 that I have. (I don’t know exactly how many cells I do have, but with 105 lights and many of those requiring multiples and a box almost full of spares I have a LOT.)

I’ll try to get numbers on the Meteor M43 with as many different sets of cells as I can to show what it does with each.
No, I don’t have the light in hand at this point. I was going to put a beamshot up of my Trustfire Showerhead light with it’s 12 XP-E2 Torch emitters so I’d know where to find it, lol. Figured everyone would get confused by their anxiety and misinterpret that so I didn’t start it yet. I’ll just re-shoot comparison lights against it when I do testing on the M43.

Well not exactly, becasue if you look at the 4V and 3.9V capacity the the LG is higher (sustaining that voltage for longer time, if we can use such word for small time differences). So for those "fresh tailcap readings" I can see why the LG will give better results in a unregulated direct drive flashlight, which goes along with your findings. However I would not take anything as 100% correct, there is always room for at least 1% to 5% error in anything.

That would be interesting, just make sure the host temperature is the same when you take change the cells.

The sample Meteor arrived today from RMM, and this thing is exquisite! The machining and finish are simply spot on, unbeaten at any level. The feel in the hand is superb, it’s so stinking cute you just want to get 3 or 4 of em!!! He sent HE-2 cells with it for consistency across the board, they’re on the charger.

Noctigon’s first step up to the plate is a grand slam home run in the bottom of the 9th! Very well done, whatever corroborations were needed on this it was worth every bit of time and effort applied. Thank you, for entering the game with such Pizzazz!

Your thoughts echo mine. I sat it down and compared it side-by-side with every Fenix, Nitecore, Niwalker, Olight, and other premium light I have, and this is as good or better than all of them. I would say that as an overall package, the light is currently unrivaled.

How would the stock XP-G2 compare with my just sold Nitecore TM26 XM-L2?. I'm thinking about getting one of these.

The Meteor CW XP-G2…

  • is much smaller and lighter
  • puts out more lumens (~6900 vs 3500)
  • doesn’t throw as far (33.6kcd vs 43kcd, or 366m vs 415m) (unless you get the de-domed version, which throws farther)
  • has a 3-color lighted switch instead of OLED display
  • costs significantly less
  • has a different type of beam pattern due to optics instead of reflectors
  • uses a very different (and more flexible) interface
  • isn’t a battery charger
  • doesn’t trigger thermal step down as quickly as the TM26
  • has a regular e-switch instead of a 2-stage switch

I think that mostly covers it.

Not that it matters much, my TM26 was the newer 3800 lumen version. I don't care about the internal battery charger which I never used. I just want something significantly brighter flood wise. Will the Meteor do that with the XP-G2?
