§corpion! UV pic§ in po§t #20

Looks like a sand desert scorpion to my untrained eye, if so not deadly to things as big as us but still damn painful.

Put in under uv.

Um I hate spiders. Never had to deal with scorpions but I’m sure I’d hate them more.

Bag full of nope right there. Congrats to the feline, it truly earned its keep, pet that furry bastard for me.

I got to the scorpion before the cat could.

She probably would have been stung if I wasn't around. :)

It does look like a desert scorpion.

Thanks for the ID. ;)

Wrong, not a desert scorpion. It’s obviously a dead scorpion. I think it’s my favorite type.

Well played….

It’s time for Racoon City to join the UV club and build himself a nice 365nm flashlight.

If you buy a LED ENGIN, get it from Mouser. The two I got from Digikey were both screwed up and most likely came from the same batch.

For $35 a pop, they should be perfect. Their quality control doesn’t seem to exist.

I built up a couple of UV lights using these emitters from this seller and get great results:

One's a P60 and the second is using a cheap eBay EDC-sized host. I'd recommend you build something up and start hunting.

Note to PETA:
The above narrative and photographic representations are for entertainment purposes only. No actual scorpions, felines, or raccoons were harmed or endangered.

I've found scorpions in my home from time to time. Seems they really like the utility wash room for some reason. Just smashed one couple weeks back. Hate em.

No scorpions here in the rain forest, but plenty of raccoons. They are cute (the raccoons) but……get into everything. The raccoon here on this forum is much better behaved, thankfully.

As a young lad I was stung three times while snuggling into a sleeping bag. It seems the scorpion had the same idea I did, but didn’t feel like sharing. Even though it hurt like a #*%$, I don’t have any lingering ill will towards scorpions, I think they’re actually pretty neat, especially given the UV fluorescence.

Yeah, but do you think you would have noticed that scorpion if the cat was not about to pounce on it?

That is a big sucker. Luckily, we only have the smaller less dangerous variety in this area. Something about their face being almost on top of their heads that gives me the heabies though.

PETA, that’s People Eating Tasty Animals isn’t it?

Lucky kitty. I never see any scorpions in my life.

I have the UV drop-in from Manafont referred to in this BLF thread:

Hunting Scorpions with a UV light!

I'll post some UV pics pretty soon. ;)

UV pics, as promised:

Did anyone see that coming?

I had to do it!

Okay, here's the scorpion's back:

And here's the scorpion's belly:
