Good choice. Its no secret that I still rate the EL01 as the absolute best large folding knife in my collection... bar none. <--- Link for $11.99 includes shipping. Not sure you if can find it for less with shipping.
el01 is an awesome knife..I have an el02 and it's almost as good..little play when opened which kind of bothers me, but i'm just being a perfectionist i'm sure..I am thinking about ordering an el04 with the snake skin micarta handle, but i'm not sure it will be perfectly tight when opened given it's an axis lock (same as el02)..my el01 is tight when opened with no play whatsoever..might take the chance for 20$
Both of my EL-02's are tight and from early production. Would tightening the jam nut help or is the slop in the lockup area where the jam mechanism meets the blade?
I just received my EL-04 and it is tight with zero wobble. It looks as nice as the photos suggest but still not enough in overall design robustness and ergonomics to topple the EL-01 from its thrown.
It was an impulsive shot when we received that dish of tomatoes as gift from a neighbour.
Since I rubbed the micarte scales with sandpaper and the initial "plastic" feel of the factory scales totaly disappeared. Here is my short guide with pics.
Im quite pleased with the factory appearance of my EL-04 and dont yet have the heart to etch the micarta scales. I will say that you definitley added to the asthetics of an already great & attractive design. Thanks for posting your sandpaper tutorial. I might blast mine with glass beads the next time Im over at the shop to rough it up a bit. I havent yet spent much time with my EL-04. How is yours holding up?
Im glad everyone enjoys the knives and suggestions from others. If anyone is one the fence, at least buy an EL-01. IMO, I havent yet found a better large folder for the price.
My EL04s are my new favourites. The handle shape of the EL04 is more ergonomic for me than the EL01. If you prefer a slimmer profile then the G10 version is for you. Anyway I enjoy both version because of the awesome blade shape which excels in slicing (it's very similar to the Benchmade Ritter Griptillian).
Ive googled several times and cant come up with anything useful. Only speculation. I probably own every Sanrenmu knife Im interested in but this one. Hopefully this model didnt fall by the wayside when the 9 series folders went out of production.
Sanrenmu LB-763 OR/ Sanrenmu GB-763 that's the question?
I was thinking of ordering one from Discovery Bargain and can't decide the one to get. I don't have enough $$$ to buy both which is the obvious solution. One has g-10 handles and the other has aluminum ones. One is obviously lighter than the other. Anyone familiar with the 2 models or have a preference? Help.
As for the 763s, had 'em both, kept the G-10 handle. The aluminum was very cool, don't get me wrong and it actually had pretty decent grip but the G10 handles won't show wear as much. It's a really minor difference, though.
Thanks. It seems that I'm leaning towards the G-10.
Are you saying that the G-10 model has a better grip feel (not as slippery) and is less cool in the hand than the aluminum handle version?
Also, I have to decide where to buy the knife. I might wait on DB before sending them any more money. I'm already having a little disatisfaction with communication. No email confirmation of my order and no response yet to my (thru the website) emails.
Any suggestions on the current best place to buy the SRM 763 will be appreciated.
manafont has the 763 for 11$..probably not the cheapest but a fast shipper and quality place to buy..I don't have the steel handle but I have the g10 763 and it's amazing (bought at manafont)..small knife but very nice EDC..
