I know i have seen some that claimed to be ex Cree over at CPF.
I mean i you search for a specific Cree emitter on google you end up here, they have to know about this place.
So what do you guys think, do they have such an airtight NDA contract, so they can only lurk or what, this new XP-E2 Torch & the XP-L HI domeless emitter sounds to me like they are listening :bigsmile:
And i would hope that if you work with emitters all day, you are still passionate about them in your off time, hehe or who knows maybe browsing BLF is considered “work time” over there

so here we go:
@ 3000 mA, Tj = 25°C
XM-L2 U4 : ~ 1282 lm
XP-L HD V6: 1251 lm
XP-L HI V3: 1095 lm
Or, look at it another way. At bin V3 on both XP-L HD and the new HI, they are exactly the same at every current level, so both are 1095 lm at 3A current. The difference is that the XP-L HI doesn’t have the higher bins. Okay, maybe those will come in time. Looking at the difference from XM-L2, though, it seems we’re going backwards. The closest bin level to being comparable to the XP-L bin V3 is the XM-L2 bin U2. At 3A current, it gives almost 30 lumens more, and the Vf is 3.43V compared to XP-L Vf 3.46V. Then, you have two more bin levels, compared to the XP-L HD having four more bin levels, and still can’t reach the max lumens of the XM-L2. So, the XM-L2 puts out more lumens/watt than the XP-L emitters. Why? Aren’t they supposed to be the same die?
I know they are exactly the same at every current level, just wanted to let people know that there’s a V3 already listed, because in the datasheet there was V2 as the highest flux-bin for the HI version.
As for the XP-L vs XM-L2 comparison, try to look at the XP-L not as a replacement of the XM-L2. It’s a different LED that can fit in places where the XM-L2 can’t. For example the 32XP noctigon board combined with LEDIL optics is a winner. Now with the XP-L HI, you can probably fit them under carclo optics without having to modify anything.
Again, the XM-L2 isn’t replaced, they still come up with higher flux-bins, now U4! I think those are only good news.
With dedoming, you always have a loss of total lumen output, tint shift, possibility of damaging, possibilty of ripping off some of the phosphor and if everything goes right, you end up with a much more fragile LED (if not resealed). Never been a fan of dedoming because of the above mentioned reasons. With the XP-L HI you have less output as well, because of the lower bins, but you’d get less output by dedoming anyways. According to the datasheet, the HI version gives a 120% increase in lux over the HD version using the same secondary optics, if that’s true, than this is more than I’ver ever seen someone achieved by just dedoming.
In a few months, you’ll find M2X Javelot competitors all over the place. Imagine the M25C2 Turbo with a XP-L HI…
Imagine all those sub 30$ lights that will do 100+ klux in stock form.

That M25C2 Turbo looks crazy, to bad its crazy expensive also, i hope some Chinese budget light maker clone that 92mm head with a single 18650, for an more affordable version

Who would ever walk around with something, as crazy wide as the M25C2 Turbo clipped to their pants or belt i just cant see that happening.

I think it’s mainly because the M25C2 is just a bigger head version of the G25C2, anyways, thanks for pointing out the ridiculousness of it, made me laugh.
I’m fairly sure there are at least a few Cree employees lurking here - I’ve spoken to one of them that I randomly ran into at a bar. I know of one fairly regular poster who works (or worked?) there (never met him in person). Cree is based in the area where I live, so I have some very minor connections (my parents are neighbors/friends with one of the executives - before you ask, I have zero pull. Believe me, I’ve tried.).
It’s probably a decent guess that some of the folks with Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Apex NC in their Location could potentially work for Cree. I can’t imagine there’d be that many flashaholics in one town that don’t in some way work in the industry. I’m an outlier — I work in commercial real estate.
But yeah, fairly safe assumption that some of the folks there are at least aware of BLF.
Does Cree even have a tint bin for that? Tints starting with ‘9’ or ‘10’, perhaps?

Okay, they have a special group of extra-yellow tint bins… so you want an AA3 bin? That sounds painful to look at. Anything warmer than ~3500K makes my eyes bug out.
