17mm & 20/26/27mm single-sided DD/FET driver release: A17DD-SO8 / A20DD-SO8 / etc

thanks for the links, looks like a good offer on both, bought some

Yeah Tom, you are right, but the Digikey US shipping is quite allright, for me its 60$….same with Mouser, Farnell got those at 2.5 euros per piece here( like 3$ )….and sometimes Farnell has hella wierd shipping policy, 2 years ago i ordered 25 cob emitters from farnell, and since they dont have them( in spire they claim they do) in the Uk warehouse they tried sending them from the US- 45$ shipping charge plus 190$ tax for handling and packaging( chips alone costed like 90$ i)…. …i denied the order ofc

Anyway, same Ali guy has good schottky diodes too

I bought these and they seem to be alright http://www.ebay.de/itm/200990156954

I found this chart on NXP’s website im just confused to say the least. I know 3R0’s are recommended and i have been using those, while there is a debate that 2R4-30YLDX (RMM’s choice) are better , there are even lower resistance ones out there, but they have higher capacitance? not sure if lower is better for our application.

We don't care that much about the slightly higher capacitance at our relatively pedestrian 19kHz switching speed.

I don't think that the 2R4 is really better or worse than the 3R0--it just happened to be available in bulk at a time that the 3R0 was not. The 0R9 is the best out of NXP's line, and the SIR800DP I think is even better than that. But really, you're just splitting hairs at this point.

Are we there yet? Almost?

Build one of these yesterday for a DD red Convoy S2+ I was building and some how managed to get LED + and - connected which shorted out and melted my switch and soldered the switch spring to the bottom of my 25r. To say I panicked is an understatement. Good news is I’ve fixed it and it’s a BEAST! Just need to tweak the firmware to make it perfect.

can the LFPAK FETs be bought anywhere without 20 $ shipping (mouser/digikey) and be payad with paypal (no aliexpress) ?

i am interested in 5 for playing around…

Seen those on Ebay, but havent realy tested them, the ones that i boguth from Ali are originals, at least 100% same as my first Farnell order( that costed me 4 times more)

M4D M4X , if you cant find those i will visit the PO thuesday MSG me if you like some, you are doing great BLF community job( and all those nice codes too), i will be happy to help you

This is a polish company , they can be trusted too, i work with them from time to time and their shipping isnt that high

Can be a good option for EU buyers too

I just get mine from RMM.

There may be cheaper fleabay options, but I’d rather not waste time ordering unknown’s.

Any idea on the mosfet heat dissipation at 3A output?

Non really  the MOSFET in this kind of direct drive controlled by PWM levels makes no notiseble heat.

But in a linear MOSFET driven driver, like led4power’s LD-1 driver, they can get very hot in the middle levels.

I will try and order in Poland

Whats with the A17DD author btw? i just realised he isnt active from a very long time……too much work or an angly wife( like mine  ) ?

He just vanished one day, but made this last post.

I hope he comes back.

Alex (wight) announced his hiatus before it happened. Think he thought he'd be back, dunno when. He is a big loss, specially after his insane flurry of work/releases/contributions. Still some open issues - would be nice if he was around to see all his designs thru. I use his DD+1's. Only person in a position to take over his role, sort of, is RMM in my opinion. Others previously heavily involved are gone too. Richard has the advantage of selling full up assembled boards, or full kits of parts, etc. - huge advantage.

Things like that he spoke about setting up a license for his designs just before he left, makes me worry something out of his control happened to him. He put in so much work in perfecting them & now they are in a kind of limbo as i see it, we know we here can order them from Ospark & use them at least, & i was fortunate to ask for permission on a future possible project before he left.

But then what? What are we allowed to do with them, because he isn’t available & he never set up a license we can’t know.

Although i will say that i never heard about anything he didn’t allow, but then again if there was, it is likely those discussions weren’t publicly disclosed anyway.

Alex (wight) is doing well, he just needed to take a small break from this (sometimes life consuming) hobby.

I can't say that I could ever fill his shoes, as I consider him to be a better designer than I am, and he was definitely more focused than I am. I've got my head in lots of different places (studying for the bar, running the business, building drivers/lights, family, church, etc.) so for me designing and prototyping drivers is something that is very low on the priority list. Wight was very dedicated and focused on his designs and was able to get a lot done in a short amount of time. It probably takes me a month of development time to do what he was doing in a day.

Ohh, didnt knew that, i hope that he is doing well, indeed he did tremendous desing work for us
Maybe a burn out who knows, or just life, maybe a new job

Good to hear he is doing well, and just needed a break from it all.

And i agree this hobby can eat up a lot of focus/time, sometimes i am :~ on how my priorities have changed since i got in to all of this.
