[WTB] Boring Service and Maglite Heatsink (D Cell)

Hi Guys,

I am needing someone to bore the neck of my D Cell Maglite to fit my Welch Allen HID Ballast. I am unaware of EXACT dimension, but I have gotten it VERY close with low grit sandpaper thus far. I am guessing the neck needs no more than 1-2mm removed to allow the ballast to fit properly. I will send the ballast along with the body to whomever can get this done, I am SICK of sanding it, trying to get it to fit!

Also,

Still looking for a flat top heatsink for a D cell Maglite. It needs to have holes for wires for a 20mm MCPCB and a driver cavity. I’m wanting to build a 1.25D 12V XHP70 light. I would prefer copper, but aluminum will do.

Please PM me, I have funds waiting. Also would be willing to work out a deal with a AW Soft Start switch for D-Cell, 6 WA Bulbs, and a couple reflectors, and lens.

you have options

I think the folks at CPF are better equipped for this, have you seen their maglite superbulb?

Not looking for a run of the mill drop-in. I want this done right. Thanks for the suggestion though…

It’s possible I can help you out, as long as no single point threading is necessary. Boring the mag tube shouldn’t be a problem, for the pill are you OK with something just short of a press fit and a dowel pin to retain the pill in position?

See this thread for what I’m talking about.

The boring service and the heatsink are unrelated. The boring will need to be done to allow a Welch Allen ballast to fit the neck of the mag. The heatsink is needed for an XHP build.

I’d be willing to send both host, and the ballast to ensure everything gets fitted nicely. Your heatsink design looks perfect. Pm me and we can discuss the details. Thanks so much!

I’ve finished up the work for edeekeos. Here’s what his finished heatsink looks like.

The HID ballast is a nice snug fit that will require being lightly pressed in and out. It’s just short of a true press fit. The heatsink is a bit tighter allowing him to use his hone to adjust it exactly how he wants it. Here is as far as I can seat it and still wiggle in out from the front.
