New XP-L High Intensity Emitter

I have some on order. They should be here in the next couple of weeks.

These new ones without the dome? Where did you order them from?

+1

maybe he got these

” XPL Hi Intensity, V2 Flux, 6200K Bin, TAKING PREORDERS DELIVERY MID MAY”

Its mid May now! Gimme.

They aren’t in yet. Expected hopefully next week.

Nice  can’t wait to hear how they perform.

I just noticed that the bond wires look different somehow……fatter maybe, fingers crossed they are because we are totally bondwire limited when we overdrive the XM-L2/XP-L class Cree emitters.

But it could just be a really crappy picture

I would bet they will have lower lux performance than their de domed brothers but with nicer tint of course. This silicone looks about 0,6mm thick so it could have slightly bigger dome projection(but not much).

Has anyone found a source for these besides Cutter? (Stateside.)

… and preferably in a neutral tint.

Those bond wires look pretty beefy...I have a sneaking suspicion that these are going to be incredible but only available for a short run. Better buy all that you can now once their available.. I'm thinking of ways to keep those bond wires cool so they can handle additional current...

From the datasheet measurements it should be ~0.35mm. See my post #43.
And it may actually be less than 0.35mm. From looking at other datasheets (like XP-G2) 0.65mm appears to only be for the substrate (not including the die + phosphor thickness).

This will be interesting. We were talking about such a setup here before it released—that is, leaving a thin layer of gel material to maintain a higher-K while still getting apparent die image of similar size. It could possibly help rid the double-tint drop from a reflective aperture on top of a de-dome. You would have a single tint drop from the RA reflection into the phosphor only.

The die window should have a consistent surface finish and thickness I would expect vs a liquid sealer, so it will be a good LED to test against a sealed one.

The bond wires could be thicker, but they also could be raised material in a “bump” shape giving an illusion from an angle.

I can see it now; the first CREE LED I’ll want an AR-coating applied to directly.

It is going to be interesting to find out (i don’t think i will contribute much :D) what is more efficent, the lower flux bin of the XP-L HI but with a sustained CW going in to the RA, or the higher flux binned XP-L HD but dedomed but with a warmer tint + RA.

Or just the regular even higher flux binned XM-L2 U4 & XP-G2 S4 dedomed + RA.

MEM, check out if you haven’t already n10sivern’s test of some of the highest flux binned options we have nowadays, in the 1504 domed & dedomed. Very interesting, for example at least to me the XM-L2 U4 was a suprisingly good & efficient performer. I wish I had ordered more in my last order from Richard

My experiment with shaving the dome’s for the same effect is very encouraging. I used a 1mm washer as a guide, which produced repeatable results and I built a triple with it. Nice.

So my next step is to castrate 12 XP-L 3D emitters and see what the Noctigon Meteor M43 does with em. (I have the emitters and the M43, am waiting on the nerve to do it to show up)

Edit: the bond wire thing is an optical illusion, my sliced ones have the same effect.

Why don’t you buy 12 XP-L V6 2A & dedome instead? Cutters have them soon available, if you need them without the dome, that is what I would have done(if cutters wouldn’t have such crazy expensive shipping that is ;)). They should end up close to 3D, and then you have lots of rare 3D’s to use in other builds

To bad about the bondwire illusion, but at least we know now.

Looks like Cutter is going to be the first to get the V2 bin, nobody else even has it listed yet.

So now I have to decide between waiting, or just getting a slightly lower bin from mouser

Pilotdog, I’m placing an order if you want in to get cheaper shipping

From cutter? How much do you think it would work out to per emitter?
