Alex (wight) announced his hiatus before it happened. Think he thought he'd be back, dunno when. He is a big loss, specially after his insane flurry of work/releases/contributions. Still some open issues - would be nice if he was around to see all his designs thru. I use his DD+1's. Only person in a position to take over his role, sort of, is RMM in my opinion. Others previously heavily involved are gone too. Richard has the advantage of selling full up assembled boards, or full kits of parts, etc. - huge advantage.
Things like that he spoke about setting up a license for his designs just before he left, makes me worry something out of his control happened to him. He put in so much work in perfecting them & now they are in a kind of limbo as i see it, we know we here can order them from Ospark & use them at least, & i was fortunate to ask for permission on a future possible project before he left.
But then what? What are we allowed to do with them, because he isn’t available & he never set up a license we can’t know.
Although i will say that i never heard about anything he didn’t allow, but then again if there was, it is likely those discussions weren’t publicly disclosed anyway.
Alex (wight) is doing well, he just needed to take a small break from this (sometimes life consuming) hobby.
I can't say that I could ever fill his shoes, as I consider him to be a better designer than I am, and he was definitely more focused than I am. I've got my head in lots of different places (studying for the bar, running the business, building drivers/lights, family, church, etc.) so for me designing and prototyping drivers is something that is very low on the priority list. Wight was very dedicated and focused on his designs and was able to get a lot done in a short amount of time. It probably takes me a month of development time to do what he was doing in a day.
Ohh, didnt knew that, i hope that he is doing well, indeed he did tremendous desing work for us
Maybe a burn out who knows, or just life, maybe a new job
