17mm & 20/26/27mm single-sided DD/FET driver release: A17DD-SO8 / A20DD-SO8 / etc

I just get mine from RMM.

There may be cheaper fleabay options, but I’d rather not waste time ordering unknown’s.

Any idea on the mosfet heat dissipation at 3A output?

Non really  the MOSFET in this kind of direct drive controlled by PWM levels makes no notiseble heat.

But in a linear MOSFET driven driver, like led4power’s LD-1 driver, they can get very hot in the middle levels.

I will try and order in Poland

Whats with the A17DD author btw? i just realised he isnt active from a very long time……too much work or an angly wife( like mine  ) ?

He just vanished one day, but made this last post.

I hope he comes back.

Alex (wight) announced his hiatus before it happened. Think he thought he'd be back, dunno when. He is a big loss, specially after his insane flurry of work/releases/contributions. Still some open issues - would be nice if he was around to see all his designs thru. I use his DD+1's. Only person in a position to take over his role, sort of, is RMM in my opinion. Others previously heavily involved are gone too. Richard has the advantage of selling full up assembled boards, or full kits of parts, etc. - huge advantage.

Things like that he spoke about setting up a license for his designs just before he left, makes me worry something out of his control happened to him. He put in so much work in perfecting them & now they are in a kind of limbo as i see it, we know we here can order them from Ospark & use them at least, & i was fortunate to ask for permission on a future possible project before he left.

But then what? What are we allowed to do with them, because he isn’t available & he never set up a license we can’t know.

Although i will say that i never heard about anything he didn’t allow, but then again if there was, it is likely those discussions weren’t publicly disclosed anyway.

Alex (wight) is doing well, he just needed to take a small break from this (sometimes life consuming) hobby.

I can't say that I could ever fill his shoes, as I consider him to be a better designer than I am, and he was definitely more focused than I am. I've got my head in lots of different places (studying for the bar, running the business, building drivers/lights, family, church, etc.) so for me designing and prototyping drivers is something that is very low on the priority list. Wight was very dedicated and focused on his designs and was able to get a lot done in a short amount of time. It probably takes me a month of development time to do what he was doing in a day.

Ohh, didnt knew that, i hope that he is doing well, indeed he did tremendous desing work for us
Maybe a burn out who knows, or just life, maybe a new job

Good to hear he is doing well, and just needed a break from it all.

And i agree this hobby can eat up a lot of focus/time, sometimes i am :~ on how my priorities have changed since i got in to all of this.

17mm A17DD-SO8 v 044

Its that Richard`s alt desing? Any issues ?

Where you seeing v044?

Here you are Tom

On 41 there is a label “dont use” already….and in fact i have some offtime issues with it( but it could be me, i am just a user)

Ahh: Alex == wight == RED Smile. No mention of it in the OP, but Alex's link at OSHPark goes to this thread... Weird.

The stangest thing is that there wasnt such a driver month ago when i ordered, its kinda new i am sure

So…maybe the OP is still developing in the shadows

But the Ospark page says “Shared on January 12th, 2015 05:54” :~ strange

One quick question: has anybody tried that driver with 3x AA or D class batteries? Will it hold their max Uf? Its like 4.5-4.65v….

AAs sag enough to work without issues. Some good D cells might fry an emitter direct drive.
