I purchased a D25C from Andrew-Amanda for about the same as your current weekly-deal offer.

Although I live in London, it was intentionally purchased for delivery whilst I am in Florida to help with delivery in the US.

As expected it was delivered promptly and received yesterday (Friday) morning.

I eagerly (or should that be eagle-y?!) opened the package to find a well protected and retail boxed flashlight. The light itself was packed inside the included pouch, with the clip already attached.

There are a few minor abrasions on the head and body where they join - I suspect this is simply from the exposed rear of the popper inside the pouch rubbing against the light during transit. The XM-L2 CW emitter is ever so slightly off-centre. Subtle enough that most people might not even notice, but we’re all obsessive BLF’ers after all, are we not!

I placed a freshly charged and proven RCR123A (nitecore 166) into the light and tightened the head back up. Switched on… nothing. On/off/on/off… nothing. Screw/unscrew head; loosen/tighten head… you guessed it nothing.

Tried with a band new primary CR123 with the same result (or lack thereof), and feared a DOA light. Then all of a sudden LIGHT!! However relief was short-lived and temporary as it still intermittently fails entirely during mode switching using tail switch or head.

I cannot pinpoint what is causing it to fail, but very slightly flicking the side of the light sometimes causes it to illuminate if the switch is already on. Then changing modes causes it to switch off and fail all over again!

Unfortunately I return home to London on 31st, and cannot get hold of Andrew-Amanda until after the memorial weekend.

Is there anything I could try on the light to fix it or get it working? Has anyone else here experienced similar with an Eagletac D-series?

I know from reviews here that this is not typical of A-A supplied goods, nor Eagletac quality. I sincerely hope Andrew-Amanda are able to kindly assist with resolving the issue.

Hi Adam, first thing I would do is to clean all contact surfaces and threads. yours is a twisty not a clicky right?

Thanks for the advice; the D25C I purchased is the 2014 Ti titanium model which does have a gitd rear clicky.

The modes are intended to be in two groups. Fully tightened head is group 1, loose head is group two. Individual modes in each group are selected by the clicky.

As you suggested, I checked and cleaned the head contact. This is a copper section of the pill (screw & +’ve contact) which does make good contact with the button-top cells and body threads. The tail clicky is a spring contact. This has not produced any better results unfortunately!

I fear it is just a bad case of being unlucky, and perhaps the clicky is simply not functioning properly.

Also, I don’t want to mess with it too much so that it can be dealt with properly by the retailer when they are back to work.

Hi Ahirshy, sorry for your issues. We usually test all international orders before shipping to try and avoid the customer having to go through the hassle of shipping the light all the way back to us ever. Unfortunately as well, some lights I suppose face that one fatal bump in transit that ruins it. Sorry again for the inconvenience. I tried again over the weekend to get the light working without success. I also couldn’t get hold of anyone due to the long Memorial day weekend, but I expect I will be able to speak to someone today.
Also, it’s not international yet - I’m still on Florida until Saturday. That is where the original order was delivered, specifically during vaccation so that it wouldn’t have been international.
Hopefully Andrew will be able to kindly help resolve the issue before I return home to avoid any unnecessary costs on either party…

Hi Zane (& Andrew of A-A), Just to provide a bootnote to the D25C issue I was having for the benefit of others on the forum:

I received the replacement D25C just in time for my return home, and have only just had a proper opportunity to properly use it.
The new one is functioning perfectly first time and also does not have the weird reflector defect present before.

On the old one, half the reflector had a much stronger orange-peel, whilst the other half was very light almost smooth. This affected the beam profile and made the hotspot appear like the emitter wasn’t correctly centred. The new item has a perfectly consistent reflector, closer to what looked smooth. Photos below taken from the old item before it was returned to illustrate:

The original item was already put back in the US post prior to receiving the new one, so you should have received it last week.
Apologies in advance that I needed to remove the clip in order to properly unscrew and re-screw the tail cap onto the body whilst trying to resolve the intermittent failure. I didn’t have the proper tools to re-attach it, so it is loose in the small plastic bag with the lanyard and spare o-ring.

The USPS service was bizarre - I put “RETURN TO SENDER” on the package to return, expecting that this was the way the US postal service operated for unwanted items, incorrect recipient, address unknown, etc. (Something learned from Elvis I guess!).

But they said I would need to pay for the full return postage because it looked like the item had been opened. Well of course it had, else how would anyone discover that it needed to be returned to the sender?! So I paid the postage and assumed that swapping the words ‘To’ and ‘From’ on the original shipping label would give them just as clear address details as when it was sent to me the first time. Nope! They insisted I purchase a brand new totally blank USPS label to stick over the existing label, on which I would just write the exact same details again! Anyway in total it ended up costing me just short of $5 extra to return the other item to you. Are you able to PM me please to kindly agree reimbursing that small amount.

Again many thanks for such great customer service and the speedy resolution. I’m sure my initial experience was just bad luck and everyone on these forums knows these exceptions do occur. What differentiates these occasions however is the way in which the seller or retailer handles the issue and goes about rectifying it. From my perspective Andrew-Amanda has been flawless from the initial contact of making an offer on the web-site (a great unique feature), through to receiving and replacing the item. I am delighted with the new light and will certainly use your store again.

@ ahirshy, that is quite odd that the orange peel wasn’t consistent all the way though the reflector. Can’t say I’ve seen that before but I will definitely keep and eye out in the future. Also I sent you a PM with details about your postage.

@ Raw74, in that case I will neither try to persuade or dissuade you from making your pockets a little less full but I did actually test one this morning and it’s pretty darn beastly…… 5000 lumens, 700 yard beam distance, 6 XM-L T6 LEDs. Where’s Tim Allen with a that odd grunting noise he used to make on Home Improvement lol? (so yeah, think i lied about not persuading) Cheers!

@ahirshy, I own a D25C Ti 2014 too (mine is mislabeled D25A, weird enough), and it was not always switching on, but just every now and then it didn't, not as often as your copy. A little tap on it solved it. I found the fault being the contact between the tail section and the battery tube, it was not fully tightened, loosen a bit and tightening again, and the problem was gone for while. But it still happens occasionally, it might be a weak spot in this light.

after reading this,I checked my D25C Ti, which had been working fine :stuck_out_tongue: My end piece was loose, so I tightened it up, and the light stopped working :slight_smile: If it ain’t broke DON”T fix it! Took the tailcap all apart, put it back together and it’s working fine now. Now anyway. It is a terrific light by the way, one of my favorites. It has many, many, modes …… and one of the best strobe modes I’ve ever seen.

The nitecore ec4 looks interesting but what have you heard about the nitecore ec4s?

Yes they work but I would recommend using button tops because they fit a little more snugly. flat tops are loose and rattle but seem to maintain the connection because the light doesn’t shut off. You can try elongating the springs with needle nose pliers for a better fit.
