Custom 18650 Titanium Host - Triple XP-Ls, Copper Pill, Trits

I am in

yeah put me down if there are slots left

Sorry, all spots have been filled at this stage. You will be first backup though if one of the current 10 decides to pull out.

perfect, thanks!

I’m glad to be part of this project… To me the X6 is one of the nicest single cell mod-ready lights, head to head with the C8 and S2. I’ve built 3 X6s so far with different emitter options in each and I’m really happy with the builds. I’m sure this one will turn out amazing.

See? I’m not the only one!

I have 10 X6’s ranging from a single XM-L2 at 1794 lumens to a single XHP-70 that has a modified extension tube on it for 2 cells, making 5502 lumens…. and several triples and Quads in between. I have built around 20, with a bag full of reflectors and stock drivers.

My last build was #10, utilizing the big copper sink designed for a quad…. modified it to fit a Fraen diamond patterned reflector and fitted it with an SBT-70 emitter. While it “only” makes 1500 lumens, it pulls 17.41A at the tail.

This one will be the piece de resistance though, can’t wait!

I love your enthusiasm Dale!

Hopefully we can pull this off as planned and everyone will be happy with the finished product. I can picture it all in my head, it’s just a matter of making that a reality now.

Here’s my collection layout, please feel free to make suggestions for this Ultimate X6…

Eagle Eye X6 collection….

XHP-70 2 cells and Ledil Minnie-W at…………………… 5502
XP-L V6 3D Angie Quad optics at ………………………… 3895 *EDC
XP-L V6 1A Ledil Cute 4 optics at …………………….……3798 *EDC
XP-L V5 1A de-domed w/Khatod Quad ………………….3457
XP-L V5 1A Carclo Quad Huge Cu sink……………………3450
XP-L V4 3D CUTE-3 Triple, sample light…………………2967
MT-G2 with PZL driver and Iris Optic……………….………2312
XM-L2 U3 1A Single running at………………………………1794
XP-E2 Torch with huge Al sink Khatod Quad……………1211
SBT-70 with quad Cu heat sink and Fraen reflector…1501 lumens

All but the MT-G2 are running FET drivers, most with the reversing firmware from ToyKeeper. So these 10 EE X6 lights make a combined 29,887 lumens. Big smile

The 2 EDC lights are my faves, I carry one of those 2 in my pocket daily.

Have I mentioned that I really really like the Eagle Eye X6?

BLF Ti body thread fits EE-X6. 3D Model will be ok after 2.5 hours, unless the engineer loaf on the job.

UPDATE - 04/06/2015

Rey has completed the first 3D drawings and personally I think they look great. One thing to mention is the size of the trit slots in the head isn’t confirmed yet as we are unsure of what sizes will be commonly available. So they may become a little smaller but this will be confirmed. However we are sticking with having 8 of them evenly spaced around the head.

Other than that I think it looks really good!

Someone else can take my slot. I’m not a huge fan.

Sorry to hear that. Is there one thing in particular you don’t like?

At this stage, the head design does not match the battery tube yet.

If a flashlight as estetically pleasing as the Hyperlux is the goal, someone with a good view on design must be involved to look at the light as a whole and make this light one piece instead of a combination of different parts. It is something that IMO happened to Rey's BLF-Ti light, I like it as it is now (I ordered one :-) ), but a final design step has been skipped. This new light being more expensive, such a final design step looking at the light as a whole will be a very good idea.

I’m not digging the thick battery tube, Can it be slimmer than the tube used in the BLF Ti? This is the reason many people were out for that GB, makes it look fat…

Other than that, it looks good to me (I believe it will be improved with a more detailed sketch?). I like the straight lines in the fins section.

The proposed battery tube diameter is only 1mm different at the thickest point compared to the X6 tube (24mm vs 25mm). The tube is a 25mm bar to begin with and the knurling is machined from there, so it is 25mm at the tops of the knurling and ~24mm in the machined sections. I have a feeling the 3D renders make it look fatter than it is. If you look at the pictures Rey posted above, that is more how it would look (proportion wise). I’m concerned about going too thin because it will be out of proportion to the head?

Bear in mind, this isn’t a final design, there are still tweaks to be made. I will double check the diameters of everything to make sure they are correct and aren’t misleading.

Okay, so this is an updated render with a 24mm battery tube diameter (same as X6) and it has been shortened a little as the last one was longer than it should have been…

I’m not sure if the fins section should have a curved profile like the X6 or not. I kind of like them both ways. Also the gap at the head and bezel joint won’t be as pronounced as it looks. The will actually be hard up against each other like bezels usually are.

I’m not a fan of the corn knurling. That’s the main reason I lost interest in the BLF Ti light Rey currently has going. But, other than that, this light looks kinda nice. While the curved fin section of the X6 looks good, making this one a straight angle will help differentiate it. Aren’t the trit slots going to be cut-ins, not sticking out like the render?

Edit: Because this is going to be an extremely limited run, can we get some (all  ) of you guys to commit to a build thread and review of this when you get it?

I know what you are saying, I think though if we made it normal knurling it would almost look the same as some of those other lights. The knurling is very olight/fenix style.

The trit slots will be machined in so they will sit flush, again the render is making it look a tad strange.

Keeping the head a straight angle instead of curved like the X6 will indeed set it apart. Need to make sure to keep similar depth to the fins though as the Titanium will not be efficient at heat removal and the deep fins will an absolute necessity.

Trits available from Bart are as quoted from his page….

1.55x5mm vials, all colors: $7.50.- each.2x8mm vials in green, iceblue and red: $11.- each.
4x20mm high pressure vials in iceblue: ($45.- each) Now $35.

I have 2 of the 4x20 and they are HUGE in comparison to the trits going into Rey’s other light. Also quite expensive if going for 8 of them! They are also very bright, 8 of the 4x20’s would be pretty intense. I also have a pair of the 2x8mm in ice blue, these would do nicely.

Just how intense are those 4X20’s, Dale? Could one be used in an incan-style reflector for a single-mode moon only flashlight? Or, if not one, maybe two or four?
