Well, we all should know there are people like that in the world. It’s just not something I think about going on here. So many of the members really are so helpful, and give us so much without asking much in return. It’s shocking to think those leaches exist here. Even if they are here all the time, reading every post, that doesn’t make them a contributor to the BLF community. But, what can we do about it? Nothing, really, unless someone wants to start keeping a blacklist…
Thanks DanielM! I’ve improved my technique tenfold since I did my first one way back when. I had no idea some people watched them that much. Most of my recent reviews have 1000 or less views, some less than 500- despite me thinking I’ve improved them quite a bit. I then look at many other youtube reviews of lights, that have many many more views and figure that I must be doing something wrong- even though I think I’m doing quite a bit right.
One recent review, the manufacturer even told me they wished I had done one in a more wooded area after I reviewed it. I had to explain that despite the lack of their preferred location that I spend a lot of time on them, and I don’t often have the time or work schedule that allows me to travel to a national forest and camp for several days for the purpose of doing a flashlight review for them.
Great ChibiM, now you’ve inspired others to do what you’ve done. To think someone is in a dark room, stalking and reading all your history, post by post
Hey Chibi, I'm almost at 5000 posts and I'm thinking of doing a giveaway, can you PM me the name of this giveaway-only member? so that I can reserve a small extra present especially for him, if he joins :-) (FTR, I have no evil intentions ;-) )
I do also love to walk away with the loot, but next question is what to do with it.
The first few time it may be easy to use the stuff, but soon you got more than enough and do not know what to do with it.
The first few reviews it was nice to get stuff for "free", but today I only review the stuff, but do seldom use it (Do not ask me about long time usage). With maybe 100 charges* I cannot use all of them, but uses only the best ones that match my usage pattern.
*I do not know the correct number, I give charges away to friends and family, but mostly they run screaming away when I ask them if they need a charger or a battery .
I don’t know how you have time to do all the reviews you do. I know I have had to turn away a few… not that many. But you must have accumulated a ton of stuff you’ll never use ever again. I like you have given a bunch of my stuff away… but I barely have time for the few I do… I could never take on as much as you do. Kudos though, as your reviews have helped many of us here, who don’t have the testing equipment or technical know how to put chargers through any real testing.
Yes, these posts (and PM’s which I’ve also received from this member about items for sale) annoy me too. I guess now that the other side now effectively charges sellers might be relevant.
In the giveaways that I’ve run, the users contribution to BLF has never come into question. The fact that the user has registered and said “I’m in” or what ever is required, is proof enough to me that they like flashlights. That is enough for me. If they then want to sell the light or do what ever they want, it is fine by me.
We cant all “give” to the community. If you start analysing the content of users posts, most of the users here would rank very poorly. Quantity does not equal quality
I am not trying to troll this post, just trying to get a bit of perspective from someone who does not post or contribute much!
