Convoy C8 new style with removable pill

Pictures below show no holes but there will be 2 for the wires

Stock Alu pill has roughly 1mm of material under the shelf, Cu has 2.7mm

Only 5 available

This pill is made from true copper, that has more than 380 W·m−1·K−1 thermal conductivity, and weighs 27 grams.

“It has slightly pink color (camera can not show it`s real color). Low-cost chinise pills are often made from brass/bronze (they also has high density, so pill can be heavy, but will not have much red in it`s color) or different colored alloys (they look like real copper but weights much less).”

Convoy C8 Copper pill - new style Matt black anodising

I’m making an interest list for C8 pills in copper.

1. James3
2. Mr. Nobody
3.
4.
5.

These are custom made by a contact in Russia, here is an example of his work.

I will compile an interest list, there will be no minimum order. But there max be a maximum.
He makes them single handedly so that is why there may be a max order, so first come first served!

I will have a ‘prototype’ of the C8 pill soon

“New pills will have better machinary (precision sharpening of a cutter) and will be coated by electrolysis. All are made by high-quality copper from USSR. We definitely need to think how to leave some places uncoated (people shoud see that pills are made from copper), maybe next time we will make holes after coating.
This time all pills have 6mm place under the driver plane, so they can fit not only linear drivers.”

Why have them coated?
I would be interested in 2, pending price and final design if they fit the new style Convoy C8 with a 20mm MCPCB and 17mm driver.

Yes new style with 20mm MCPCB price is looking to be $15-20 still to be confirmed

ill need one for a 20mm MTG2 DD setup, will accompany with a 17mm driver right?

Yes 17mm driver will fit, it is an exact copy of the aluminium version just in copper but without screws for the emitter or retaining ring, the driver solders right to the pill

Still curious why you would have them coated?
It’s really not necessary on an internal component like this.

It’s not finalised yet, possibly won’t be coated. it was a recommendation from the machinist, I’ve asked him why and if we can also do without the coating

I Will take one, if the shipping cost doesn’t tesult outrageously high.

Hi, im from Spain:

i am in if the final price is +–15$.

Thanks.

Shipping shouldn’t be that high, 1 pill I would estimate standard shipping (7-8 days international) to be about £3 obviously cheaper for economy shipping

Update from machinist:

“5 pcs are in process. They should be ready this week. Coating makes my work easier cause I don`t need to presoak pills in WD-40 - the other way they goes green in few days (real copper).”

Put me off, i view that new version don´t have pill and i will buy this.

Thanks any way.

Alberto.

Any chance of getting a run of copper pills to suit an XinTD C8 after this run is done? I would be in for a couple of them if possible.

Possibly in the future, if this run goes well the machinist says he can make pills for any light if he has a sample to copy

Update:

“Hi James, I have made several C8 pills, but they are very difficult job for lathering so their COGS is higher.
Top surface of pill is ideally polished, I have decided that screwing mcpcb through thermal grease is not good decision (making holes with thread could up the price twicely.)
Also they have no holes for wires because russian custom makers from fonarevka use their own direct-thermal pcbs with non-standart holes.
In spite of writed upper, COGS of this pills is much higher than I could thought.”

There is only 5 available at the moment and I’m claiming 2

So far The price is looking to be roughly £17-20 each shipped

That top surface looks really nice.

Do the holes have to be manually drilled by the user?

Yes, he said he could do them, but the cost would go up by double! So trying to keep it budget it seems like the best way is to do it yourself

Just a warning for all guys that think “I can drill 2 holes, how hard can it be!” Copper is very dense material and it’s huge pain to drill or cut, if you don’t have drill bits for hard materials and only have hand drill, no drill press, prepare for a nightmare.

P.S. “Top surface of pill is ideally polished”… I guess they didn’t hear about mirror finish over there J)
I would like to build MT-G2 C8 (2 x 18350) flashlight but with so expensive work, I will have to settle with Noctigon MCPCB… :frowning:

Update:

It will be possible to get the holes drilled for us, but will bring the price up to about £21-22 each shipped

These pills are high quality copper weighing in at 27g each

Wow that’s expensive!
