About the heatsink:

1) Is it all one solid piece of aluminum? (not hollow)

2) It looks like it is made to allow the focus mechanism of the Maglite to still work. True?

3) What kind(s) of modification required to the Mag in order to use the heatsink?

I have all the right reasons to want to buy this stuff: a Mag that needs modding, a bunch of XM SinkPads that need emitters, and some flashlights that need to be upgraded to these emitters on my SinkPads. But currently, I have no money to spend. However, I get paid on Friday, so if it is still here, and my questions are answered the way I want them to be, I might buy then.

Hi David,

1. Yes, the mag heat sink is made from a solid piece of aluminum. There is metal under the emitter. It does have a recess on the bottom for use with a 17mm driver, and some space for wires.

2. Yes, the sink is made to be used with a de-camed mag reflector. The light will still be focus able.

3. To use the sink you will need to cut off the post of the maglite switch that held the old bulb, and then wire either the LED or your driver to the switch.

There is a ton of good threading on the web about maglite modding both here at BLF and CPF. If you start your mod and get stuck you can email me as well.

Thanks! That is what I needed to know!
