new edc triple xhp70 not firing up

Hi all my friend and I bought this livht from Ric of edc and cnq qaulity goods http://www.edc-light.com/edc-light-triple-cree-xhp70-xhp-50-12000-lumen-3x26650-led-flashlight_p0935.html are the specs http://m.banggood.com/12000LM-Customized-Version-3XHP50XHP70-Super-Bright-LED-Flashlight-p-970456.html.I took the specs from banggood because they show better pictures and specs and how ric assured us he tested the lights before shipping them amd said they worked and when we got them I checked tail cap and drivwr with digital multimeter on diode test and it was good so when I installed the AWT 75 A 26650 nothing turned on ,I know the driver is a regulated and protected driver could to much amperage
Set the protection on?I am bemmed we were both looking forward to our new mega torches any how here are the batteries I tried to use :

Try completing the circuit at the tail with a DMM instead of the tailcap and see what that does. Are you using button-top batteries?

A jumper at tail cap and nothing my friend and I got the xhp70 and just a we bit upset it would have been my first thrower all I have are either c8s solarforce p60 one shadow darth and a small sun with mtg2 I fried I was really hoping to have a really high output light.

Does the light have a spring on the positive side?

What light is it? The links in the OP are not working for me.

try this link: http://www.banggood.com/12000LM-Customized-Version-3XHP50XHP70-Super-Bright-LED-Flashlight-p-970456.html

Yikes! Quite a lot of money to pay for a light to not have it work out of the door. :frowning:

this is a very funny comment! You should be a comedian!

My friend and I are not happy that makes 3 xhp 70 that were DOA out of the box ,I thought Ric sold good products from CNG , wow this really sucks

Ric does sell good products and has for a long time. Here's what I would do. I would take the body tube off the light and stand the head with the driver up, so I can get to it. I would take my cells and use magnets in between them and set them together, on a bench. Than I would use magnets on each end and take two test leads, with alligator clips on them and put the clips on the magnets, so you can use the other ends to clip against the positive and negative right there on the head. You can meter the leads that way, before testing and make sure you have voltage. If you do, then use them to test the light. If it does not turn on then, it's bad. If it does, then there's an issue with your cells when they are in the body, or an issue with the tail cap switch. You can meter the switch to see if it is bad or good.

Just so you are aware some batteries will not light up an LED or even a ICAN bulb.

I have a ROP Hi bulb That unless you use good quility cells it will not light up AT ALL.
I have 2x 26650s from radio shack that are not IMR cells therefor will not light the bulb. Same goes for a XHP70 build i HAD ended up making spacers to use 18650 IMRs which i have a lot of.
So before you jump to conclusions please try some high power batteries, I bet that’s your issue…
BTW thats a hefty price for a big @$$ 3x XHP70 light. i LOLd at the name EDC I pictured a smaller light for edc that had three XHP triple in it!

I agree with Old Lumens —looks like that light might take button top batteries—if you are using king kong 26650 the + is slightly recessed —I’ve had trouble with those in series—-

I just looked at the driver their putting in that thing.........lol

No wonder it won't light up.

OLD LUMENS, ,My buddy and I ran the AWT 75 Amp batteries in series on the table and got ove 12 volts very time and they are brand new batteries I bought just for this light using rare earth magnets on ground side and still nothing

Please see op I have attached with pictures

And have either good or bad luck?

My buddy came and picked up the light and is returning both of them and is going to see about getting a refund he doesn’t want to deal with them if they are already causing problems ,so does anybody want to buy never cycled AWT 26650 75 amp high drain batteries cheap or trade for thrower?

Well friend payed for both so he picked them up and is asking for Ric to refund him at last word

If jumping from the negative terminal of the battery to battery tube with a small screwdriver doesn’t do anything to rule out trouble with tail cap, maybe a wire came loose during shipping due to a bad solder joint? I’d check to make sure driver ring was tight and grounding the driver properly first and then tear it down and check every solder joint for the wires coming from driver to MCPCBs. If I’m correct, the driver is a 18 volt buck/boost with the LEDs wired in series.

If the soldering job wasn’t up to snuff, all the banging the light received during shipping knocked something loose or it’s just a cold solder joint. It has to be something real stupid. I wouldn’t ship it back just yet. Try trouble shooting it first.

Try putting magnets between the batteries in case buttons aren’t protruding enough. Trying different batteries wouldn’t hurt either. Shove 3 of those plastic 18650 to 26650 tubes in there and drop some 18650’s in there for giggles.

A few things. First, this light is not and will never be a thrower.
I bought the ShengJie with XM-L2 emitters and converted it to triple XHP-70 before Ric got these done. Mine does over 11000 out the front lumens. ( actually am doing this for a friend, so it’s not mine )

Second, those cells wont’ run it. Try Efest Purples or King Kongs. Even good 18650’s like the Efest 35A, LG HE 2 or HE 4, Sam 25R, any of those will do it.

When it come’s to cells, cheaping out is likely to get you no result at best, and a very dangerous result at worst.

FWIW, I paid $75 for the light originally, am selling it to my buddy for $120 making 11,000 lumens. This is measured lumens, not Chinese.
