Thorfire TG06 AA or 14500

Why do good quality budget brands make L-H-M (Thorfire) or M-L-H (Xeno) UIs is out of my comprehension.

WHY can’t they just make a L-M-H like the premium brands? It would not cost more.

Other than that, I like a lot the fact it always start at the lowest setting, I understand some may prefer mode memory but all in all that preserves unwanted high output in the wrong situations and MED / HIGH are just a double / triple click shortcut away from OFF.

that is wierd, mine has just a small amount of PMW and the LED is white/blue.

On low the PWM is very noticeable. I used it for a few minutes just slowly swinging it and I already noticed it.. moving it much faster resulted in seeing "the dots of light" about 5 cm in between. Which means slow.

AAbout the led, I think they probably just use any led they have, with all its variations.

I really like this light, the clip when reversed fits on my hard hat at work and holds fast enough for what I am doing. The light size is great. I am getting the modding bug with this thing. I cannot for the life of me figure out how the head goes together. The tail has the bezel ring with the divots to unscrew it, but the head looks like two solder blobs hold the driver in. If anyone has any ideas about how to remove the driver/pill/emitter assembly, please let us know….

I am totally new to modding flashlights, but am learning a lot here, thanks for a great forum!

I know 1st hand they have a great customer service regarding their products 1 of the 3 lights I purchased had the same flickering problem on low mode and they took care of it faster than it took Streamlight to reply to me about an issue with several of their Microstream lights I had purchased to give as Christmas presents. Would definitely recommend contacting them about any problems with the lights

I got the head apart on my TG06, I will try to post pictures tomorrow. The pill is brass and is solid where the star sits. The trick is to use the pliers to unscrew the pill via the two solder plugs on the back of the driver…. You will have to unsolder the driver, but it looks very easy to mod after this…

Now what to put in this thing… I would like to stay on just AA Alkaline batteries as I can get them at work for what I do, having the 14500 option is nice, but not necessary…

I am looking at a boost driver obviously, now what kind of NW emitter and a copper base for it…

Any help in a single AA mod is more than welcome…

This is my 1st time hearing about flashlight Mods ? How can you Mod a flashlight ?

Also I was sent the newer version of the TG06 to do a comparison between both versions. Currently testing it, so far this new version is MUCH brighter.

Please update us on this, I got a Hugsby P31 and it is significantly brighter than my TG06. I want more out of the TG06 and use it all the time at work, so I am interested in the “new” version.

I can only agree regarding the disappointing brightness. I received the TG06 only two weeks ago from a BangGood discounted deal.

At the same time I ordered an E01 Stainless Steel as reviewed here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/30295

My E01 did not come with the tail spring-bypass mod noted in Freeme's review, but it is exceptionally brighter than the TG06 using the same 14500 cell and emitters.

The TG06 is very nicely made and I like the matt-anodisation and quality build. But as already noted here, the PWM is noticeable at low modes WHEN you move the light about. While static I can't notice the PWM; perhaps slightly if viewed out of peripheral vision - like a low refresh-rate old CRT display!. When moving the light around the effect is like a strobe stick. None of this is present on the E01.

If there is indeed an updated TG06 I would similarly love to know about it, especially if it resolves these issues. Shame I would have wasted a pretty nice looking light though.

Anyone want to buy a Thorfire TG06?!

Sorry you weren’t happy with the light, Hope it wasn’t because of my review you decided to purchase it.

I actually really like the light I haven’t had any issues with mine. I would contact them with any problems their customer service is really good.

The size, weight is great for EDC i know its not the brightest but I thought it was pretty good for the size.

The new version is much brighter and whiter. The older version looks blue next to the new version also the new version has a much tighter hot spot similar to the Nitecore MT1A.

The only downside Ive found so far is that the new version heats up pretty quick with the 14500 which are only batteries I use in my lights.

I still like the lights very much though just because they’re so small & light weight carrying a pistol, Knife & wallet I don’t want a huge bulky light in my pocket as well

Shoot me a PM with what you want for it… I have some stuff on the for sale forum if you want to trade…

I don’t have it but I think I want it. Nice looking design. I carry a little AAA light (Olight i3s) as my pocket EDC right now but I’ve been looking for something with a bit more power in a 14500 light. I have the Convoy S3 and while it’s great it’s just a little big for pants pocket carry. I love that this one always comes on in low 1st. In my opinion that’s ideal for EDC. I’m a not a fan of visible PWM but this looks like a nice light and a good value. Thanks for the post!

The UI on the new version was changed it now Turns on in High mode then Low and Medium last so H,L,M they also added momentary press/on.

Try the Hugsby P31 (non affiliated link), much better than the stock TG06 and cheaper too… No visible PWM, just High, Low and a strobe mode… no memory, same as the TG06. Takes 14500 or AA, but is just as bright on an AA as the 14500…

I will be modding my TG06 in the future to get it up to a good level, it is not a bad light stock, just disappointing when compared to other single AA lights…

This is nice, and I am glad they still have no blinky modes… perhaps when you get a chance, post some side by side beamshots with the old VS new TG06’s….

As I probably mentioned there is a similar model to the TG06 at the SecurityIng shop, the model is SG7 with some minor differences which could be an improvement:
http://de.aliexpress.com/store/product/SecurityIng-Pocketsize-415LM-3-Mode-XPG-R5-LED-Professional-Outdoor-Flashlight-Torch-with-Moonlight-Mode/418718_32349732457.html
And there is a clone of the Thorfire TG05 too, model name is SG6 and it even comes with the same set of spare parts plus a holster:
http://de.aliexpress.com/store/product/SecurityIng-Pocketsize-520LM-5-Modes-XPG-R5-LED-Professional-Outdoor-Flashlight-with-Memory-Function/418718_32342350169.html
One important difference to the TG05 (which I like better then the TG06) is the input voltage range, specified with 1.0~4.2V, that includes 14500!
Since I’ve already got both Thorfires I didn’t order these SecurityIng, but I bought from this shop/brand and was satisfied.

Bummer. Thanks for letting me know. That’s a major factor in my decision. If budget were no issue I’d buy them all but alas… snot the case. :~

Had time today and successfully dedomed my Thorfire TG06. I used the solvent method and it was my first dedome. It is quite a difference, the tint is much more neutral now and the light modes are all the same spacing as before, but it seems a bit more bright with the new tint. The beam is much more compact… I did not take any pictures before and will try to get some up here in a day or two. I killed one of my Hugsby XP-1’s trying to dedome it after this success, but I will put a new emitter on when they arrive from the place I ordered them. Now I want to dedome the Hugsby P31… this is fun…

I put in a different driver and emitter on my TG06 DRIVER EMITTER Both items are from BangGood and are non-affiliated links.

No real issues with the mod, the bigger LED fit the reflector fine. The driver required filing to fit into the pill, so if you do this mod have some patience and a fine file…. Alkaline or NiMh only now…

A GIF of the DeDomed standard TG06 I changed the GIF to L-M-H order from the original L-H-M UI.

And the Modded TG06 from the same distance and the same camera settings. Three modes, L-M-H and a LOT more light.

I did not have any pics of the original LED prior to DeDoming it… But the DeDome made it more yellow and increased the spot, but about the same amount of light… so this is pretty close except for the color to original on Alkaline.
I had some issues filing the driver down to fit, mainly frustration as I did not want to go too far and damage something. Taking it slow helps. The XM-L is a 6k and not as blue as the original. NO PWM on this driver, I lost the 14500 ability, but who cares, this rocks on an Alkaline now and work supplies me with them as I use the light on my hardhat….
